I always find it hilarious how the first half of the intro is serious with main characters, then all of a sudden Yoda comes out of nowhere and kicks ass
Remember how when you created your own character, you could include him/her at a certain point within this opening? That's sheer SC fanservice right there. Take myself for instance; I haul off against a few random swordsmen on my way to Algol's tower. Next thing I know, I'm facing off against Cervantes. That point really made me feel as if I were a legitimate part of the SC universe; as if I wasn't already immersed into it since SC1.
great game, the graphics were beautiful and the art direction makes them stand even in these days but it had some odd things that broke the immersion for me. the apprentice is a generic character that has nothing to do with soul calibur, i understund and appreciate guest characters like Darth Vader and Yoda but at times it felt like a star wars fighting game and not like soul calibur. and that stage were all the lizardmen are holding the knifes and forks is laughable to say the least

Ahh the memory. I remember i use to play this alot because of Star wars character Darth Vader, Yoda and Starkiller. I remember I even are the best playing as Sephiroth from final Fantasy 7 I created the character. So much memory :)
Late reply, but essentially, there was an option to have a custom character inserted into the introduction scene (in place of Yoda/Darth Vader). To accommodate for the customizable options, the game used the CaS data. As a result, instead of CG, the cutscenes used the in game character models, sometimes with minor alterations.
you are aware he was the creator of the blade Soul Calibur, right? whats more he lived long before the events of even the first game (cant say how long, but eh). so that point of yours is quite moot, however, that doesn't mean he *would* be in the game, but it that doesnt change the fact the point you made doesnt work in this case
While not quite on the same tier as its predecessors, I do like what is being portrayed in the beginning of the opening. So here’s your explanation: A very very long time ago, during an ancient dynasty, the “Hero King” Algol wielded the evil sword Soul Edge to spread peace to the world. With his extremely strong will, Algol never fell to the evil sword’s control. However, his son, Arcturus, was jealous of his father’s power, and he took Soul Edge for himself. Unfortunately, he didn’t have the mental strength of Algol and he was easily manipulated by Soul Edge. Arcturus attacked his father, and in self defense, Algol was forced to kill his own son. Devastated by the death of Arcturus, Algol swore to create a sword to counter the evil within Soul Edge. With the use of purified fragments of Soul Edge (which is what Algol is holding) and the assistance of multiple sages, they set out to create Soul Calibur. After many failed attempts, and at the cost of his own life, Algol managed to create Soul Calibur. However, this was semi-successful as Algol’s soul would end up being pulled into Astral Chaod, and his restlessness caused the sword have a cold-hearted, unrelenting spirit very similar to that of Soul Edge!
Love how they revisited the theme of Calibur II "Under the stars of destiny" for Calibur 4. I wish they kept doing it for all caliburs. 3&4 remains my favorite, but Edge&2 has the best music
honestly, this is a terrible opening. there is no weight to any attack, hell, when astaroth threw the rock at yoda, it looks like it just slid away after being cut. hilde and ivy looked almost uninterested during their fight Hilde:"ivy, im gonna slice you...i guess", "now here comes the flag stab..." Ivy: "I'm gonna smack you with my whip....", *swings whip blade in a disinterested way*

this comment just makes me think you've never played a soul calibur game before this one. you think Link, Spawn, Heihachi and KOS-MOS belong in the sound calibur games they were in? No. They were just guest characters that didn't affect the story in any way so it shouldn't matter whether they're there or not
Souledge/Soulcalibur series had great intros all of them right from the first game to fourth i.e. Souledge, Soulcalibur1-3. 😁🥰😎 Soulcalibur 4,5,6 Intros - Meh!! 🙄😶😑
It made better sense for Spawn, Link, and Hehaichi Mishima to be in the Soul Calibur franchise than it did for Star Wars characters. I'm not saying that alone makes it bad, but still, that's pretty random. What I wouldn't give to see Necrid back in the series.
