I knows SC5 is kind of a weaker entry in the series but excluding the story (which I absolutely understand why people would dislike it) I’ll never understand the hate for the overall game ._.
@@Howlingburd19 Probably because half the fan favorite classics of previous rosters were missing, and the few that were in the game had their movesets stripped bare of the bulk of their classic moves. Couple that w/ a laughable story mode, no arcade endings, & broken game balance, & you have the most hated game in the series.
Derrick Frost SC3's intro was great and SC2's intro was legendary. After that, Namco stopped trying, and can barely tell a cohesive story with believable characters.
hmm i geuss better graphics doesnt mean better quality soul calibur 2 is still the best for me they really made beautifuld chatacters with the weak computers they had
This is a cutscene, not an opening cinematic. The pre-rendered intro of Soul Calibur 3 looked better than this. I was so disappointment at having my hopes dashed by this game. Curse you Namco, for forcing a ridiculous deadline on the designers, ruining the sales and possibilities of a once great franchise. When will the gaming industry stop ruining old franchises and replacing them with bland, overly polished and hyped ones?
Soul Calibur never had someone wield it for long periods of time like Nightmare or Cervantes with Soul Edge. So there was no clear idea of what the swords goal is. While it is created created from a purified shard, but it is still created from soul edge. It's goal seems to be destroying soul edge no matter the costs or who it effects. Example being Pyrrha who had a dark aura and never had a choice of being used by the cursed sword.
@Sora4Real39 There hasnt been any good games for a while, but I'll be uploading my Arcade mode & Story mode playthrough for this game tommorow and will follow up with Twisted Metal & Asura's Wrath next month
***** I really hope so. I know Taki was in SCV in spirit (Natsu) but I really loved her demon/assassin lore. Everything in SC felt so organic in SC, SE, SC2, SC3 and even a little bit in SC4. I can't wait if it does.
Maybe is not the best opening of the series but, when I launched the game back in the day...Man How I having a canon battlle between Nightmare and Siegfried.
While the fighting system was a huge improvement. The sudden addition/replacement of many characters was a let down. I'm a huge fan of the Monkey King, but i just don't like Xiba. Natsu was boring, Alpha Patroklos was bad and took away Setsuka due to having too similiar of a fighting style. WHY ARE THERE 3 WEAPON MASTERS!? One for Male Characters, one for Female characters, and one who can use ANY character. such a huge let down. Not to mention the character creation has yet to inspire me since 3.
A great fight between the two but.....this isn't the same as the last 4. The first 3 were so awesome and the 4th wasnt great but still had an awesome intro that got you pumped for the game. Not to mention lately, why have they been making Soul Calibur an enemy? I mean sure the sword's essence has been a bit fanatical about defeating soul edge but isnt she...err it still good? I just don't understand.
This may sound weird, but this is my least favorite opening cinematic thing from any of the Soul Calibur games, going all the way back to Soul Edge/Blade. In all the others, they have awesome fight scenes, showcasing a number of characters, and making you want to play as one of them. But this just has a lame, god type fight between Siegfried and Nightmare, which we've seen a billion times before. And the guest character is Ezio! Think of how awesome this could have been if they'd done it the way they had with the other games. Just imagine... Ezio vs Natsu. Epic.
@@StyleshStorm oh cool I meant to say main lol. Yeah I thought she had an interesting moveset. We're definitely a rare breed. My 2 mains were Algol and Xiba. I got so good with Algol and I loved the of customizations there were in that game too. And its still the best looking soul caliber in my opinion.
0:20 Nightmare: (appears) HALT!!! (takes out his Soul Edge) Gaurds: (in horror) Who is that? Gaurd's Captain: (shocked) Oh my gosh! It's a monster! Nightmare: DIE!!! (kills the gaurds using his Soul Edge's power) *Later...* Nightmare: No one will stop me! This is my DARKNESS!!! Siegfried: (appears) Not this time, Nightmare! Nightmare: (turns to Siegfried) Precious timing of meeting you here! This is how it really ends. Siegfried: Well, I'm sorry, but your path ends here. (takes out his Soul Calibur) Nightmare: (in response) Are you ready to be crushed?! Siegfried: (refusing) Bring it! Siegfried and Nightmare: (uses both Soul Calibur and Soul Edge to fight creating a demonic and crystal explosion fused in red and blue energy) Me: Woah!
I've read that Soul Calibur is a purified shard, but I've also read that it's made from a shard. Which is it? My guess is that it's a purified shard seeing as Elysium is rather ruthless like Inferno when you think about it.
Sh4d0wKat Niup. Soul Calibur is not a "Purified Shard" of Soul Edge. It's almost the other way around. Soul Edge was an attempt at making another weapon such as Soul Calibur, needless to say, they (Algol's council) succeeded in the power department, but the weapon was a monstrosity.
chaosngelx If you play Soul Calibur IV, you'll learn that (as stated in the lore of the other games) Soul Edge was an ordinary sword before it became twisted into a parasitic evil weapon. Algol was the only person who could wield Soul Edge without being taken over by it, but his son Arcturus stole the blade and was taken over, forcing Algol to kill him. In his grief, Algol took shards of Soul Edge, purified them, and sacrificed himself to create a weapon that was its opposite, Soul Calibur.
Sh4d0wKat Then it's proven that Algol FAILED to purify it. Soul Calibur's mind is in many ways different, but no less parasitic or evil. It was most effective as a tool for good when its mind was dormant, such as when Xianghua wielded it. Unfortunately, by the time the moron, patrokolos got hold of it... well, it's just another evil sword, albeit one with a subtly different ultimate goal and MO.
Orumon Uldor Yeah, that's pretty much what happened. Algol's hatred and ambition resulted in an incomplete purification and the creation of Elysium, who is indeed just as evil as Inferno in her own way. Elysium was sealed away by Algol's followers and Soul Calibur was passed down to Zasalamel's tribe before eventually making its way into Xianghua's hands. Elysium was apparently reawakened during Siegfried's clash with Nightmare between III and IV, as she manipulated the former during the events of IV, spoke to Cassandra in her ending in IV, and finally revealed herself to Patroklos in V.
I just had the same questionning... WHY on earth did they focused on Nightmare and Siegfried ? (oh I have an idea: maybe because the brand new characters just LOOK LIKE SHIT) And why does this looked like a fight designed by a little boy ? Like "whoa! clank! shoo! bullet time!" this looks horrible and out of place. RIP my favourite fighting game.
@Blakobness They could atleast update the gameplay :s and the guys voice with the cheesy intro everytime stage starts, and the story makes no sense hahaha xD Soul blade Soul Edge Soul Cheese XD
I keep wondering why Namco keeps making Soul Calibur Games, the graphics are good but the gameplay is dated, they should invest all this time into Tekken 7..... and Tekken x Street fighter
Even though it’s probably the weakest game in the franchise, I think it concludes Siegfried’s story and arc perfectly. How he goes from becoming a victim of Soul Edge, followed by being the wielder of Soul Calibur. He defeats Soul Edge, rebuilds the Schwarzwind (except he reforms the clan from thieves to mercenaries), and becomes Soul Calibur’s guardian. And I don’t care what anyone says, this intro is epic (not as good as say 2 or 3, but still. Also, the short part at 1:04 is awesome for choreography and music purposes)
so im just curious, is there a name for the song they used? I think its freaking epic lol and just putting this out there, nightmare didnt lose this fight... curse you all that believe he lost! :D
In terms of story and arc progression, it was NOT a good edition to the SC franchise, I will admit. The game itself was excellent, especially in terms of its mechanics; it basically walked so that SC6 could run. As for this trailer, it was probably the worst of all of them. In fact, the only time this trailer would've worked, is if the first time SC was ever made was in 2012, rather than 1998. It would've fit much better then.
Never played past 4... This intro seemed worse than 4. 4 was lacking a lot of the other characters. Soul Calibur feels like a "who's got the bigger dick" kind of game by seeing just Seigfried and Nightmare. I feel like the series needs advance with choosing a new main antagonist influenced by SoulEdge. Nightmare is my favorite but seeing him as the main antagonist is kinda boring.
eh i think theyll find a way around it, because patrikalos's (however you spell his name) girlfriend lilmisswhatsherface got possessed by soul edge and what not. Idk i just hate the fact they made nightmare's "death" so dumb. (i say "death" because nightmare's supposed to be like the embodiment of soul edge or w/e yet parts of soul edge still survived in lilmisswhatsherface :/)
I've LOVED the Soul Series' opening cinematics. This is by far the worst opening I've seen. It's a cool scene and all but it only features two characters, which is surprising considering the new characters they introduced in this one.
yes soul calibur is still good but more about ultimate good we just never saw this kinda side of her cause siegfried cut all ties to everyone there for soul calibur wouldnt control him cause he was completely worthy
No it doesnt, because this is soul calibur 5 and this is young siegfried not the current older one. Its obviously an opening that shows the conclusion of the last soul calibur and the beginning for this.
@4nubiS that doesn't mean anything. i play mostly all fighting games & i can say i like Soul Cal more than Tekken and i played Tekken way before i did Soul so there is no bias. Plus they're doing something different with this one & u can actually CREATE chars. & not just customize the existing ones
@Triple6Lyricist I'm not really bashing SC, I'm just saying the game has alot of potential! But i cant criticize yet, have to see SC5 :) hope it turns out great!
everyone who's badmouthing this please be quiet goodness ur ruining it for the people who thumb upped the video just thumbs down it if u don't like it I mean I know that's what comments are for but come on! at least try to be positive.
Anyone else argree that this game really fucked nightmares voice up? In soul calibur 4 he sounded demon like (sorry couldnt find a better word), here he just sounds old
Okay I'm going to admit I didn't play SCV. I kind of steared clear of that stinker of a online only game masked as a fighter but I did play SCIV and my perspective on Taki's will to destroy the Soul Calibur a direct result of her use of the Mekimaru (a sword she forged out of a shard of the Soul Edge). It mentions that the Mekimaru has been growing in power and that Taki has growing desire to use it which sounds to me the sword is slowly taking hold of Taki. But we'll never know thanks to SCV
I understand that, it was more a rhetorical question if why project Soul is making Soul Calibur like a bad guy. In SC IV Taki was out to destroy Soul Calibur.
@afoninja121 Never got to play SC3 unfortunately, never had a PS2 back in the day so I missed out. The intro is actually really good though, it also made me realize how few new characters were introduced in SC4. Intro is pretty long though, not short and sweet like sc2 :P
@4nubiS I don't think it's really that bad, for an 8-way style fighter. It could really do without some of the gimmicks they've been adding, like "super" combos and abilities, that SC4 had. Just leave it to the base combat. I can't honestly name a lot of weapon-based fighters out there, Soul Calibur sort of fills that niche.
The battle between Siegfried and Nightmare should be a far fight between Optimus Prime and Megatron. Not that I don't like how TF3 ended but this seems like a fair fight.
Depends if you want a game more characters then V, but if you want one with most of the original cast and is still fun go for IV though V is the most balanced of the bunch. Hell get both :P
