Then comes a very young Willie Colon and his orquestra including the famous Hector Lavoe in the vocals. This section was introduced with a clip from Fania All Stars' movie "Our Latin Thing". @@pmfg875Lo bueno nunca muere.
So, that's Hector Lavoe on vocals. I see that this program was taped on November of 1972.Let'see, I was twenty three at that time. I remember watching this TV show back then. It was on WTTW in Chicago. Also back then I was playing sax and flute in a band called the Bagg and we were influenced a lot by these guys like Tito Puente and Ray Barreto. .
Salsa gold right here. 👑 Frankie Figueroa is by far my favorite Tito Puente singer. An amazing vocalist and improvisational singer. Glad to see him here.
I remember this show!..this episode was fantastic… I used to watch these on PBS when I was a little kid. EVERYBODY was digging it. Of ALL Ethnicities. We were really coming together back in the 70s and 80s. ….And then came the 1990’s 😷😔 Oh well, good to Reminisce tho ☮️
Recently met Mr Luciano at Jefferson park and talked about my aunt and real estate in East Harlem . It would be a blessing for Mr Luciano to visit Manhattan grace tabernacle on any Sunday at 110street at 3:00 pm
This was a year before I was born, and I have Puerto Rican Lineage in Salinas, and Ponce, Puerto Rico. I love Salsa, and have been learning Puerto Rican Spanish from Rocky Rodriguez. This was a wonderful experience to watch an archive on the legends doing their thing.
@@israelfreytes6537 I definitely plan to, My ancestry goes back to the 1800s in Salinas, PR. Although I didn't grow up with my Puerto Rican family members, I always have been proud of my heritage. I found out about it when I was 10 years old, and since then, haven't ever been ashamed of where I come from. I'm still learning Puerto Rican Spanish, which hasn't been easy, due to the fact that some words and phrases don't translate to English. And when it does, there's still no translation for it. However, I'm determined to learn, porque es parte de mí raíces.
This video should be declared as Intangible Cultural Heritage. Great video, thank you so much for uploading it. Tito Puente, Hector Lavoe, Willie Colon, Frankie Figueroa will always be present, thank you for your legacy. Que viva el Latin Jazz y latinoamerica! Cheers!
Felipe Luciano is not only a proud Afro Latino but one of the greatest historians of music that ever lived.........Thanks you for this video... Long Live La Fania
EXTRAORDINARY! Wherever did you find this? AMAZED only 115 people or so have watched this. Seeing Tito at his HEIGHT in his NY home with completely black SOUL! audience and AMAZING dancers is a real breath of air. FUNKY poetry of the Puerto Rican New Yorker lived-in experience from Feliciano is an energizing start backed by his insightful comments and interviews highlighting the changing history of the city's Latin sound. Willie Colon is QUITE a discovery too! THANK YOU!!
This definitely needs to be on every channel. Astounding moment in history and culture. The spoken word poetry is amazing, I love seeing this performance from El Rey. Willie and Hector are looking very handsome too.
Tremenda orquesta la del Maestro Puente. Nunca desiluciona.
YO! these were the days of yesteryears, brought tears to my eyes, when Great Icon Musicians got together and gave us their Best with the great Late Tito Puente, Hector LaVoe=Milton Cardona, and still with us Jose Mangual Jr. and the Rest, and Bonus to Felipe Luciano...Thanks for Sharing Raffo
This video needs to become a museum classic. My favoriter part is when Frankie ''El boxiador'' (the boxer) boxes while he sings. There has only been 1and only Frankie ''Mr Estilo'' Figueroa ever. He is perpetually original and cannot be copied. The rest of the Orq. are huge names in salsagorda (classica) history. Stay away from that trashy reggaeton and that silly salsamonga (romantica). THIS IS WHERE IT'S AT !!!!!!
This footage is from the SOUL! TV show from 1968 to 1973, created and produced by the late Ellis Haizlip. It was community affairs programming dedicated to Black American culture and politics. Notable film director, Stan Lathan, got his start there. And Stan Lathan is the father to the actress, Sana Lathan. The great Felipe Luciano was a member of The Last Poets, and of course, The Young Lords.
Funny , how the english google translation of "WEPA", is "WEB"!. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 So damn far from it's meaning. "WEPA" Would come to be a slang for "Right on!" or "Far out!" , just to mention an example.
Alguien me podría ayudar a precisar a qué Orquesta menciona?
Willie Colon being the leader of he band I guess it was appropriate for the interview & Hector LaVoe at the time was a "newbie" just starting to become famous but of course when they split, Hector took off as a major solo artist.
