Personal opinion: SoulCalibur VI is LEAGUES better than V. I thoroughly enjoyed the story mode, Libra of Soul is fun enough, Versus is good fun, the characters’ voices they changed were better (for the most part), and its a shame that Arcade is just a timed gauntlet now (an unfortunate carry over from V) As far as the individual characters’ appearances go: Siegfried: Really likes both armor sets. Glad to see V’s made it into VI via DLC Nightmare: Think VI is an overall improvement Tira: I’d probably give the edge to V. Though, her “Cursed Bird” outfit made it in, which I prefer over either of the other 2. Her new voice actress is MUCH better, imo Yoshimistu: My personal favorite character from the series and I LOVE his appearance in VI Mitsurugi: I really like VI’s, but I LOVE V’s & was happy to see it make it in, albeit as DLC. Also think the beard is SEXY AF, but I digress. Ivy: Actually prefer her V costume, just a nice balance between her usual dominatrix look with a nice classy flair to it. Side note, so glad they kept her English voice actress Lani Minella, though it’s a bit distracting playing Skyrim now 🤣 Kilik: Though his character was done dirty in V, the costume was pretty cool. Especially like the blind helmet. Cervantes: Like VI’s attire more Hilde: LOVE her armor in V. Looks absolutely phenomenal & I wish it wasn’t wasted in such a crappy entry in the series Raphael: definitely prefer VI’s over V’s Voldo: prefer VI’s over V’s, but think V’s alternate costume puts em both to shame Maxi: They are so similar, but I think I’ll give the edge to V’s. Just a bit more detail and I like the fur collar Astaroth: Prefer VI’s Sophitia: Definitely like VI more, though Elysium’s costume has some cool qualities, the visor in particular Extra: Setsuka: They included her SoulCalibur IV costume as DLC, but honestly, kinda prefer her new attire in VI (with the exception of her “high-heel clogs.” I get the East meets West theme, but just like the regular ones better. That’s a nitpick though Cassandra: Her SoulCalibur IV costume was included as well and like both looks equally. Amy: Again, her SoulCalibur IV costume was included as DLC as well and I definitely prefer it over her new attire. Taki: the exception and reason said ALMOST every voice was improved. I’m sorry, Taki’s English voice actress in VI is not as good or natural sounding as IV’s Would‘ve loved to see Yoshimitsu, Raphael, Ivy, Kilik, Xianghua, Maxi, Talim, Seong Mi-Na, and Voldo get proper high-quality & character-specific alternate costumes, be attires from previous games or something new, but don’t think that’s likely... At least Siegfried and Mitsurugi got previous costumes (and the Enlightened One’s Set seems tailor made for the latter) The Tiger Lilly Set seems made for Taki (and Id actually recommend keeping her default unitard and face mask, looks great with the armor over it) The Wretch’s Set works perfectly with Nightmare The Sanctified Set fits perfectly for Zasalamel and so does the Dark Knight set Also, sorry for the essay 😅
Yea but V's design and aesthetic is way better, VI is diluted for people who dont like complexity. Dont get me wrong I love it but the anime finery of V is beyond most games in the last ten years. And before people start I am not talking story, I am talking world building and design.
@@danielramsey6141 they are not the same on world building, half the cast is new due to a huge time jump and lean on noughties Naruto anime stylings. Design was wild and even had the Bayonetra designer on main designs, VI is a lesson in safe design and side boob, it's still good but it does not compare.
@ Brandon Haselden I feel like they’re slowly adding each costume that was in V, honestly i would love to see if they add them all in eventually. Especially ivy’s. (I saw someone try to recreate it with improvised parts but i would love to see something other than her revealing leotard that she currently has) i also feel like they should add more hairstyles since the CAS is severely lacking in diversity in that department compared to V.
@@nightwolf9375 Yea, my biggest gripe with VI is that the vast majority of the creation parts we’re getting as DLC were in previous titles. Definitely would like to see more hair styles and perhaps some faces/misc pieces to give characters longer beards. And I definitely agree with the part about Ivy. I personally LOVED her alternate attire for II. I get the whole dominatrix motif, but I’ve never particularly cared for fan-service (a nitpick I have the series in general, especially seeing that said fan-service is almost exclusively done with female characters -_-). Her alt from II just made her look like a commanding badass with a classy flair to it. Would love to see some of Yoshimitsu attires. Whilst VI’s is my personal favorite of his in the series, I’ve always loved his looks & would be nice to use em in VI
Fun fact: In SCV, Siegfried is voiced by Roger Craig Smith, the current VA for Sonic, and now in SCVI he's voiced by Kirk Thornton, the current VA for Shadow.
I like how in soul calibur 5, they were like "Let's make Ivy less revealing." and then in 6 they were like "You know what? Screw it, lets give her old look back and make her outfit more revealing." xD
It's a shame you arent able to expand and explore the rest of the environment. I've tried. If you and your opponent dance like eagles near stage edges I figured it might've been possible to glitch the cinematic cam to pull some strings. I guess this game is finite though with its moves but if only you were a foot taking a baby step.
I wish they would bring back infinite stages. Those were always my favorite cos then you wouldn't rely on wall combos or ring outs. The games would become so intense. Lol.
Well, that reminded me in V they killed Sophitia. Kept Cassandra lost in Astral Chaos. Retired Taki, Mina, Setsuka and Xianghua for being over 30. Transformed Kilik into a mimic character. Forgot Talim and Zasalamel existed. Transformed Amy into a completely different character and although Raphael is playable, they made him Nightmare's new body host meaning he wouldnt be playbale if there was a direct sequel. And in the end, somehow, they thought the fanbase wouldnt loose their shit about it. Thank God Okubo steped in and decided to reboot the timeline for VI.
SCV got a lot of things wrong, but the visuals absolutely aren’t one of them. The game’s visual hold up remarkably well, the stages were genuinely beautiful, and I actually prefer a good number of V’s designs over VI’s
Absolutely agree. Soul Calibur 3s create a character with modern graphics would be legendary. No more of that "this item conflicts with this other piece for whatever stupid reason" crap that's been in the games since 4. Bring back Chronicles of the Sword which was amazing as a single player mode or even with friends who take the controller when their guy is up for battle.
I just commented about that lol because usually when we compare a game sequel or trilogy the characters sort of seem the same poly aged may be a year or two but soul caliber five these characters it’s been almost 20 years lol so I think it’s kind of funny how people are here it’s like oh my God they look so different yeah because they were old info caliber five and soul caliber six is like at the very beginning when they first started but overall I really do like it makes you appreciate them more
While hair looks better in V, overall the lighting is better in VI. The lighting in V looks off sometimes. VI’s lighting seems more natural and like the characters are really in the stage. But in V, some surfaces on of the characters don’t look naturally lit so they pop out. Biggest example being Cervantes on the ship at night.
@@Yukikaze617 off doesn't mean bad. If we have/live in in "nature" why not to travel to another dimension/sun/gravity especially when we can? [for video games]
@@Yukikaze617 i actually liked 5's lighting better than 6. while the latter has a better feel of realism to it, it doesn't capture the sense of what looks presentable. kind of like. kind of like taking a bad picture because the lighting realistically puts you in a bad angle
everyone who are having modern TV/Phone [after TFT] with color presets of High Intensity and somewhat Duller Colors, will like "look" of SC6 with Higher Intensity, and SC5 with Duller Colors [but it should be a good display, with deep blacks]. With default/popular/wide_spread TFT screens SC5 should look winning
Character design : SC6 Lighting : i prefer something in between, so i cant choose on this Stages : SC5 for me the only thing i miss from SC5 are Viola, Zwei, Aeon.. i dont include Ezio, because as much as i knouw collab characters do not return.. Zwei and Viola have an interesting weapon and playstyle, which makes character creation better overall.. especially viola, remembering countless time i make a character out of her..
Ivy's outfit in SoulCalibur 5 is my favourite. It's the most elegant, sexy and showing her noble family side at the same time. Nothing against the others though.
For some reason a lot of people had a problem with her wearing a jacket (not enough skin, I guess), but it's my favorite outfit. It mixes her usual 1P outfit with the masculine 2P outfits from the first two games.
@@maxdowney3717 my complaint is more to how sexualized the characters are. See Ivy from V and her counterpart in VI. And how you can literally strip them to their bikini.
@@maxdowney3717 ikr. Its really ridiculous how you can strip armor off a person in combat. Tbh I really prefer the clothing damage system from DoA instead. Their armor or clothing don't get ridiculously stripped but dirt, sweat and water accumulates on their attire and at most they get torn or damaged, but not stripped.
I personally prefer SoulCalibur VI over V, only one thing I disclike in VI is the blurry background stage, I wish they will make it better in the next installment.
They were graphically even better in almost every way except resolution (unless you played on OG Xbox One, which was 720p, the same as SCV). I'm not sure if it was the change to UE4 that made them struggle or something, or maybe the low budget, but graphically, SCVI is seriously unimpressive.
I really hope Bamco has the faith to do a SCVII with a proper budget for overhauling its assets. They've been living off the SCIV baseline for over a decade. SCIV and V looked great for the time, but damn, 6 years on and you'd be hard pressed to tell which game is the sequel with V and VI. And damn, Mitsurugi doesn't get any sun in VI. Boy looks more vampire than Raphael.
Man I’ve put over a 1,200 hours into SC6 and I still love this game enough to watch videos like this. I’m so happy that SoulCalibur 6 even happened and that I was able to be a part of it.
@@noecases5940 No! Look up your Edge/Calibur lore! Just because Cervantes moveset was used by Soul Edge, doesn't mean he and Soul Edge are the same! Soul Edge can freely Possess anyone it can manipulate/corrupt, and it can Manifest its Inferno form as it does to both Nightmare and Cervantes since they were its Host! Even without a Host body, Inferno Will manifest itself from Soul Edge to Be the LAST GUARD, to defend itself! The Same goes for Soul Calibur.
I think I much prefer the V designs and the grittier, more textured look. The VI designs feel way too clean and a lot of the crit edges seem too colourful and over produced to me.
I agree. SC5 is the weakest SC game in my opinion in terms of a "whole package" Soul Calibur game but the graphics/lighting/shadowing was gorgeous and a step up from the dramatic darker color/lighting from SC4.
I think you should have included Amy and Viola (especially when you are including Sophitia/Elysium), especially when they are the same person, and also because we can notice that Amy exactly wears Viola's costume, just adding the extra skirt and changing the the cape for the hood.
IMPRESSIVE video. You're very skilled to compare 2 or more games! Most of the other channels doing it cannot capture it so well. The split screen is a good option! I hope you will do more about Fighing Games!! 2D or 3D! Cheers!
You totally forgot to compare Amy/Viola since they are the same character just with different wepons but they have to same voice, same outfit, and similar combos
One thing I will stand by till the day I die is that SoulCalibur V had much better music than VI. I feel like the game overall would have been a masterpiece if it weren’t for Namco
From what I recall of SCV... there's a lot that felt incomplete somehow, whereas SCVI just did everything flashier and more well-done. Project Soul put their "Soul" in the game... and I can't wait to see what's next.
I think its complete bullshit that the barely make any changes re use models and don't put the equipment and hairstyles from the last game and make you buy the ones you do like wth
If Soulcalibur V’s story mode is 1/4 of what would be planned, then why didn’t the developers release it as DLC in the first place? I honestly don’t get the “manpower” and “time restraints” problems, because it would be more logical for the team to simply ask for more time to complete more of the story.
This might b a lil off subject but I know creation systems that bought back into 6 added new things like character race and certain blades u can actually change patterns...but, they need to add more intro poses like the main characters and not say 1 same thing over for an example cold assassin's voice quotes says; "You will die." They should give the creations more intro poses/intro diagues like the main characters have it'll make creations way more fun not saying it's not fun but making a good point.
5 has the skeleton dlc, and a lot of the races are just a convenient preset on customizing humanoid voice/textures/costume parts. i think the only real addition here is the lizardmen race. at the very least the costume parts don't break like cotume parts like in 5 with having this format
I still think 3 had the best create a soul in the entire series. First off, there was no restrictions on what clothing items can be worn together, you could mix and match everything. The restrictions in 5 and 6 really annoy me. 3 also had jobs which meant even your created characters moveset was different from the main characters. Chronicles of the Sword was an amazing mode to use your custom creations in, it was way better than 6's Libra of Souls, 5 didn't really have anything. Clothing items seemed to fit the characters better in 3. Alot of the items in 5 and 6 just don't fit the characters very well and are almost unusable.
How awesome!!!!!!!! You should totally build on this and compare the other games in the series like II, III, and IV. You could also break down the comparisons to shared moves or elements between all games. IV remains my favourite by far.
Definitely. He looks like a power rangers villain in VI.. I think V was my favorite costume he wore in the entire series. His current one looks like it's better off suited in the Tekken series.
What if the remake of Soul Calibur 3 had: - Move around like Soul Calibur Legends. But with better camera view. - Same moveset as Soul Calibur 3. - Night Terror, Colossus, and Abyss appear as bosses in Chronicles of the Sword. The player level cap is 99 but they are over 100, each having 1k to 5k hp. They may also march towards your base.
Even by the standards of SC6 with the longer and flashier supers, Nightmare's critical finish/super is still one of the best in the game. Like easy top 3, 10 out of 10.
@@L.AtheKING Nope. Sc4 has a Bigger leap in Graphics( No Reused assets from Sc3) to Sc3 and The Critical Finishes were way better than Scv Critical Edges and Tower s mode was Fun and Had the Best Guest Characters In Modern Sc Games next to Kratos in Sc Brokeb Destiny.
I feel People hate for SC5 is unjustified. They had a time limited to do that game since Soul Calibur in terms of popularity it’s not good. So they only did 1/4 of the game. If they did the full story mode like they wanted then people would have gave the new cast some respect.
@@ShiningJudgment666 Taki and Xiaugha are the only characters to be aged out due her being a ninja and Xiaugha being a mom. Setsuka I don't think was aged out moreso she gave up fighting and went on the train people. So to some that would look bad since Ivy and other older character are still in game while Seong Mina and Yun Seong aren't in the game nor were planned to be in the game like at all. Some people coded the game and seen Talim plus Zasalamel were meant to be in the game. Probably cut due to the limited time they had. Sophitia died in 4 saving Pyrrha so she can't come back. Cassandra was sucked into the Astral Chaos but I wished they had Patroklos save her rather than give us fans a bittersweet conclusion in 6 regarding her fate.
I really wanna know why they are so similar in terms of graphics. i mean SC V was ps3 game and SC VI ps4 game. Can anyone explain that? SC VI was made in a rush?
I think most of Namco's budget went into Tekken 7 also SCV sold poorly so they didn't want to poor money into something they thought was a lost cause that being Soulcalibur as a series at least that's how I interpret it.
They are so similar because it was the end of 360 and ps3 gen, they had made tekken tag for it two years before. Its the same with VI, Tekken 7 as a dodgy port from arcade, any mistakes there made vi look a lot better. V looks amazing because of custom lighting and bloom that was used, legacy namco engines were art.
@@jabberjayjay They basically have to find new ways of replicating those similar design choices. But the Switch to the Unreal Engine was probably done just to make it easier since the Budget for SC6 has been severely limiting.
@@danielramsey6141 Its because they already worked with Unreal Engine for Tekken. All that knowledge means that SC is a better looking game that does not have to load all the assets when rematching :P :P :P
@@personaphantom5543 Ironic, because Tekken 7 also barely looks like a upgrade compared to Tekken 6. I think Namco simply restricted the budget, these games are not selling as they use to. The "benchmark" of graphics is on other studios nowadays, Namco did that in the ps1 and ps2 generations
Story and character choices on SCV were horrible but the graphics and engine were better than SC6, Soulcalibur 6 does have a crispier look but the textures aren’t as nice as SCV
I agree it's sad that they cheaped out on textures and those type of graphics but I'm not going to go shit post on the craters fucking Twitter like some people do I'm just going to be happy when they happen to update things maybe season 3 they'll do like a big graphical update or something now that they have more money towards it
@@Harly206 I mean well it's highly requested on Twitter and that's where I mostly get most of my stuff because of the fact that I think it did pretty well compared to having a global pandemic I mean I want a season 3 I feel like the only complaint people had was the custom parts were really limited but everyone wanted like half of the characters they put in the season 2 if I want to season 3 because I just want more characters
LMAO that's just bad design. she's supposed to be how the sword soulcalibur projected itself to patrokolos. The project soul at the time didn't care about Sophitia's design since they killed her off
in Soul Calibur V Elysium is different. She is switching random female styles per rounds similar to Olcadan(all) and Kilik(male) in this game. This means that 11:40 she is in Pyrrha character style/mood, and it's possible to catch her smiling with Leixia, Natsu, etc.
@@IvaWingI know all that because I played V. The explaination of her movesets isn't relevent to why she is sunken in V. But back when I asked this, I was just noticing a detail. I already knew she was actually DEAD in V. Since that wasn't the real Sophitia back then, I mean.
Pretty sure the red hair didn't show up until his SCII P1 outfit. Back in SCI, he didn't have the hair, but instead he had that unicorn horn sticking out of his helmet, and since SCVI is based off of SCI, I guess that's why they went with that design instead (although it's not like other characters didn't receive major redesigns that looked nothing like their SCI appearance). I always did like Nightmare's SCII appearance the best. And despite never appearing with that look again in the series, it seems the developers must have a fondness for it too - as the silhouette of SCII Nightmare was used in SCIII's title art, as well as being used for Project Soul's logo. Although I recall you could buy SCII Nightmare's helmet (red hair and all) in SCIV as DLC.
@@N.i.E.M.O I mean I would accept that if the game was more SC1-esque, but since the base roster already has characters like Raphael, Tira or Zasalamel (along with the whole redesign mumbo jumbo you mentioned) it's weird that they would decide to be somewhat faithful to the original design of a single character, specially because (at least imo) that red hair was just a really cool visual for nightmare, I used to think that was meant to be Siegfried's corrupt hair, but after S3-5 ruined my head canon since those nightmares aren't Siegfried anymore
SC3 to SC4 was a massive jump. SC4/SC5 to SC6 was one step forward, one step back. SC6 technically had higher resolution (unless you were playing on an OG Xbox One), but the textures weren't much of an improvement, geometry was about the same, and the lighting was a downgrade from SC5.
I will say that ScV has better lighting then ScVI But the lighting in SCVI seems to change when their in different Environments . ScV looks like its hyper realistic, while ScVI looks like anime
i like 5's lighting better too even though 6 has a more adaptive lighting. the more realistic lighting from 6 means there will be bad angles and things will look ugly when you are in a ugly environment. i do not appreciate that kind of realism
I wish they re-release Soul Calibur 2 on Switch. Out of the three characters that of the main platforms exclusives, Link made much more sense and fits the rooster
