Love these guys and this song! Makes me remember my high school years in the early and mid 70’s. Grew up about 20 miles from Hyde Park (South Chicago) where these guys were from and formed. Brings back some nice teenage memories 😁😉 Thanks guys!!
This song is from their album 'A Lonely Man' released in the Summer of 1972 when I turned 13. My cousin had the 8 track in his car and we used to cruise around with him. The entire album is amazing. This was the BEST Summer of my life, and this album was the soundtrack. I saw them when I was 15 and it was a thrill!! I still cannot listen to their music without happy tears🤗🎵😍
Yours is the reaction I'm looking for and love. When these songs first came out, my tears wouldn't stop. I loved people and had a heart for those locked in sorrow. The music did that to me. There's more to this song, listen to the album, here.
Oh yes I was singing along I knew every word. It's a deep rabbit hole of soul just keep going. Listen to Tavares singing heaven must be missing an angel
"Oh Girl" by The Chi-Lites is a heartfelt ballad about a man's utter dependence on the love and support of his partner. The lyrics suggest that without her, he would be lost and unable to find love on his own. The first and fifth verses express how much trouble the protagonist would be in if his girl left him, as he would be unable to find love elsewhere. The second verse speaks to how crucial his girl's love is and how she has always been there for him when he needed it. The bridge reveals that the protagonist's friends consider him foolish, urging him to rely on his partner instead of trying to be independent. Despite this advice, the protagonist still feels lost without his girl. The third verse expresses how out of place he would be without her, saying he doesn't know what to do, and his guilty face reflects his insincerity. The fourth verse describes his resolve to leave because he feels like it may be the best course of action, and he hopes that it will save him from the pain of being left. However, the protagonist ultimately concludes that no one could replace his girl's love, and he remains helpless and directionless without her. The song highlights the importance of having someone to rely on in life and the difficulty of finding love when it is lost.
