This is my first time here. I just wanted to give some history to this Simon and Garfunkel song that originally came out in the later 70's, I think. They are speaking of a vision of a nuclear explosion- the neon light split the night, tens of thousands talking but not speaking, people hearing but not listening, people writing songs that no one shared, bc they are just aimlessly walking out of shock of what has just happened. Then the people wrote on the subway walls and tenement halls as Prophets to the future generations, so that they do not repeat this in theirs or future generations. When I was a child, we had to do duck and cover exercises for the broken glass and the bright light of a nuclear explosion blinding us. We got through that crisis, but now we have a country testing long range missiles. Time to take heed, and keep it from happening again. By your reaction, I welcome you, a new Pentaholic to Pentatonix. You now have to check out their version of Hallelujah, not the live performance, but the one shot on the desert. And then, ' Mary did you Know? '. Their voices are phenomenal!

Great Song + Great Performers = Beauty. The song writer in this case is the great Paul Simon. This song was a huge hit for Simon and Garfunkel in the sixties. To think that this song is 55 years old and yet is still as relevant today as it was then is a testament to it's timelessness. The performers in this case are equally genius. And when you combine great material with great performers its almost a given that the end result will be a great performance but sometimes the combination rises above greatness and reveals beauty itself. I wouldn't even begin to try and define the idea of beauty but all I can say is you know it when you see it, or in this case hear it. And I hear it in this performance. It's like these artists have taken a great song and revealed the beauty within. I grew up listening to this song and the original version was a classic and so my hat is off to a group that can make it new again. It's magic!

Additional songs to react to would be “Bohemian Rhapsody” , “ Daft Punk Medley”, “Hallelujah”, “Mary Did You Know”, “Mad World”, “Say Something”, “Gold” and “Imagine”. If you want to check out a couple of their original songs (not covers) react to “Run to You” and “Sing”. That’s just a few for starters. Once you start down this rabbit hole, there’s no going back. The bass singer from Voiceplay just released a cover of Black Bird by the Beatles. It does a good job of showing off his vocal range. If your hooked, then you'll soon be hit with songs by Home Free, Voiceplay, Voctave, and Peter Hollens. There are over 800 covers (along with Pentatonix) that these singers have posted on RU-vid not including videos of live performances from their fans.

Wonderful reaction. There is so much to their music. I love their voices, their blend and the way they support each other but get out of the way of whoever happens to be singing lead. I have sung in choir and barbershop and I have an inkling of how difficult it can be to blend as well as they do, esp. with 4 strong voices and equally strong talent. I also want to acknowledge their arranger, I believe his name is Ben Bram (someone correct me if I got that wrong please) their arrangements are utterly unique and eminently them. No one else does the magic with song arrangements that they do. So many details they do ; for instance in this performance the times when the background harmony anticipates where the lead is going and leads us into it and then deftly recedes so the lead can take us there. Then there is the way the music mirrors the words; ie " fell into the well of silence and all the voices descend as the enunciate the "fell" - just magical. I would second all the recommendations others have made but add " Oh come all ye faithful " it is sung in a way you will not have heard before but once you hear you'll not want to hear it any other way. Also "I'll run to you " is a fantastically well done video and the only thing that surpasses it is the song itself. It is , I think, an original composition of theirs. Lastly, Listen to "white winter hymnal" it is really a visual treat as they sit quietly in natural surroundings and they include a follow-up video to teach the choreography that goes with the song, really delightful.

If you watch older videos, Avi Kaplan sings bass. He left the group (for personal reasons) in the fall of 2017. It was an amicable parting. He helped to find his replacement, Matt Sallee (who’s in the white jacket on the left!). Avi has dark hair and a beard. I second what everyone else is saying: YES YES YES YES YES to other PTX songs, but especially to “Happy Now” (their new original song!) and “Mad World” (cover of the Gary Jules 2001 version, which was a cover of the 1983 version by Tears for Fears). In “Mad World” Matt has a stunning duet with Mitch (some Pentaholics are calling that duo “Match”).

Anyone else notice how the pandemic has produced such a flurry of new reaction channels for such as Pentatonic and Game of Thrones? Not a complaint, by any means. Every member of Pentatonix has vocal skills that could make them the lead in almost any other group. The real killer is the wise range that each singer has, and their ability to intertwine with each other and weave vocal patterns that are very difficult. Scott (tall blond) has a three octave range - he sings both low and then high in this one, and takes over the bass line when Matt (Bass in white jacket) takes the lead.
@Dixieburk1

Richard Barber actually, Scott has a four octave range. I have been a fan forever, but in these times their music is extra special and comforting, I find.

Some times strange things happen and come together in ways hard to explain. The 3 vocalists in the center of this video all went to the same high-school at the same time and began to sing together at that time. And that was the beginning of Pentatonix (PTX). The odds of that happening?
@mickeyhank

Each member has a phenomenal range and there is always some to take over a part when the lead singer changes. There is never a break or thinning of the depth of sound. Some of my suggestions are: Daft Punk (1st Grammy), Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, original Run to You (no beatboxing, all five sing), Hallelujah, Mary did you Know?, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies (instrumental - no words - 2nd Grammy), Making Christmas, Jolene with Dolly Parton (3rd Grammy), the list goes on and on. Hi from New Zealand. What an amazing reaction, although not entirely unexpected. You can't go wrong with any PTX reaction, such a joy to listen to.

Welcome to the new world of a capella. Pentatonix and Home Free have rewritten the book on a capella worldwide. All of the suggestions for more songs to listen to are great. Pentatonix has 3 Grammys, one for their "Daft Punk Medley" (Daft Punk), one for their" Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies" (Tchaikovsky), and one for basically being Dolly Parton's backup band(?) on "Jolene". Also, try "Hallelujah" (Leonard Cohen), "Imagine" (John Lennon), "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Queen), "Mad World" (Tears for Fears), and of course, any of their Christmas music. For Home Free may I recommend their "Man of Constant Sorrow", "Will the Circle be Unbroken" (Johnny Cash), and my favorite, "Helplessly Hoping" (Crosby, Stills & Nash) (and then a quarantined Italian Youth Choir's cover of Home Free's arrangement). BTW - Both of these groups sound MUCH better through headphones. You hear so much more.

Great reaction! Will definitely check out your cover of "Shallow" - such a lovely melody, looking forward to it :-) Lots of good suggestions here, especially "La La Latch" because it showcases their ability as musicians to blend songs together and make something new in addition to beautiful vocals. However, maybe you should just go over to their channel and look through some titles and find something that you would love to hear
