Comparing the OPL3LPT, CMSLPT, TNDLPT, CVX4 and the S2P. All devices are audio devices on the printer port.

These are really neat, and the I/O port redirection through TSR or direct patching is very clever. It reminds of "legacy mode" USB support which uses SMM to do similar things. I built a few LPT DACs in my youth. the best one was a R2R ladder from a 1% DIP resistor pack. I was able to fit the entire circuit into the connector shell with RCA connector where the cable would normally come out. A friend of mine wrote some playback tools in assembly and could run audio at 44.1kHz, but never got DMA working, so there was no streaming from disk. I bought a second parallel port so I could play tracker files in stereo. The aliasing was horrible, but it was great fun.

Very good work in this comparative video, now is more easy to pick up one of them. Thanks!

very cool. I do remember the resistor array versions, and also some text to speech devices using the SP01 and SPO2 chips

I used to have the Disney Sound Source, which is similar to the Covox. Came with a Roger Rabbit game.

Totally irrelevant but now you got my mind going... The DB15 splitter, you can't use that to get both MIDI and a joystick plugged in at the same time, right? Also, all these are just begging for one of those big beige switchbox :P
