From Chicago. His little sister was at UW-Madison when I was there. She had to deal with Soundgarden nerds hunting her down. I might have been one of those nerds. I have never loved a band the way I loved Soundgarden. I am so grateful for the music they made that enriched my life and educated me. God Bless.

I directed, filmed & edited this video, the first one to appear on MTV's 120minues... Subpop had nothing to do with the video... the band and manager #SusanSilver and the staff at #sstrecords made it happen. I had a $600 budget... Be well all who care(d) about this band. 1988. I was 17 and I thought this was the baddest thing I'd ever heard. Those haunting chords at the beginning, the rumbling bass, and that little break in the rhythm, so much contained power. Listening to it now, it just sounds like guys who were trying to play metal, but without the cheese and studio sheen, and still mastering the chops, and so it comes out sounding like the MC5. Which is pretty dope.

The remixed album sounds fantastic! A little compressed, but the guitars sound far better than they did in the original mix and Chris's vocals are much clearer and not as buried as they were before. I wonder if Louder Than Love will be getting the same treatment, although the mix on that one is pretty damn good anyway. Chris will be sorely missed. But he left us an amazing legacy that will last throughout the ages, and he will never be truly dead in our hearts.

@deathmetaldouglas69
@deathmetaldouglas69 3 года назад
When you add mids to the guitars the bass needs to come up. That did not happen so I give it a thumbs down. Also the original vocal mix did not need to be fucked with. Only the drums needed remixing to get away from the 80's sound. Nothing else.

When I first heard this, I thought that Soundgarden were the second coming of Black Sabbath. Obviously, you had a bunch of doomy bands like Saint, Vitus, Witchfinder General and The Obsessed who were around before them, but with this particular song Chris's vocals really evoke that young Ozzy style of singing.

I so agree. Chris was a full range vocalist. He could definitely hit the high notes with no problem. His vocal range was a level 4. That is extremely high as only opera singers can hit the vocals and higher at that level. Freddie Mercury vocals were the highest and above a level 4, but Chris is definitely a close second.

@@letshugandlove324 although Mark Arm and Stone Goddard was in the band. I was a huge Mother Love Bone fan which also featured Stone Goddard and other members of Pearl Jam but they were borderline funky almost hair metal similar Bullet Lavolta and Jane's Addiction. I viewed Green River as just another post punk hi velocity rock band bordering on metal. Seattle was still very much a metal or sludgy stoner band town. Great bands like Forced Entry were on the way out and thrash was dying down. Might is well Skin Yard in there as well as grunge pioneers. For me the epitome of grunge before it had a name was Mudhoney with that slacky kind of "lazy" vocal style of Mark Arm and the way fuzzed out guitar of Steve Turner. All of those bands on Sub Pop were a true alternative sound to all of the hair metal of the 80's. I remember when Soundgarden first album on SST came out and they were though of the metal vein. Most of the bands on labels SST and Sub Pop from the late 80's and early 90's and Neil Young's Rust album made an impact on the grunge movement of the 90's.
