Matt Cameron is more creative and can play more intricate, fascinating drum patterns. Grohl's drumming with Nirvana and early Foo Fighters is mostly just standard heavy rock beats. Make no mistake, his timing is immaculate, but I never saw him as a truly great drummer that stood out from the rest.
@@LordofDiamondsMetal Dave can make a stadium full of people MOVE. That’s really the thing with him. Matt Cameron is sort of the Ginger Baker to Dave’s Nick Nason. They’re different types of drummers.
I could hear him struggling with it there in places. Hard enough to pitch correctly (when young) if there's reverb making a mess out of the foldback. It looked to me like he had a "wet" mix coming back at him.
Chris was originally the drummer, and a "conventional" singer at the same time. When they got another drummer and he became only the singer (and picked up a guitar_), that's when he developed the style he's known for.
The first couple of times I heard it it didn't thrill much because I'm not much familiar with those slows bluesy riffs but since then it grew on me so much, that's a neat part for sure!
Probably the best part of the song! The time change is so tough, at first, my ears couldn't comprehend it. Now I'm trying to find someone that can explain the mechanics behind the very weird sound. But God damn, it is a nasty breakdown.
I almost died in a Soundgarden mosh pit once a long time a go during Jesus Christ Pose. My laces on my Docs became untied and people were stepping on them. I fell to the ground and I litterly couldnt get up and was getting trampled on.... panic had set in quickly turning into acceptance that this was how it was gonna end, i really am going to die in a Soundgarden mosh pit......Then this hand reached down to me and i managed to grab onto it....this random dude yanked me out of what was certain death....to this day i will never forget the look on that dudes face...he gave me an all knowing nod as he knew what he had done... i mimicked thank you back to him just as the current of humanity shifted us in different directions...... I then pushed my way out of that pit of hell....but dude, if your out there somewhere and you read this i just want to say thank you.....thank you for saving my my life. I will make it count. .... I never have been in a mosh pit like the ones I did as a kid.......but has anyone?
@@user-zt2wc3uh1l You should take a look into how Gavin Harrison approaches odd time signatures. He's part of a number of projects (Porcupine Tree, The Pineapple Thief, King Crimson, 05Ric) and he makes the wackiest stuff flow like 4/4 or 12/8. Speaking as a hobbyist drummer that's always liked odd time signatures, and have always enjoyed Matt's feel and appreciated his mastery with making them flow, Gavin completely changed how I approached them with just one song: Cheating the Polygraph by Porcupine Tree. Anyone reading this should give that song a listen, he makes the 7/8 portions in it flow like butter.
respect to cornell for being able to sing & play this song at the same time...many need to be reborn just to play this song or sing it...fucking legend soundgarden is...
Masoud Km for all of Portnoy's showmanship I reckon Matt Cameron has a better feel for rhythm than Portnoy. He knows when to be restrained and complements the music better imo
All these years later, Soundgarden is the band from that time that I can go back to listen to over and over. The most talented and interesting band of the grunge era.
@@joetee9135 nah. They were great, but not as interesting. Soundgarden had their original sound, the only band you could say was grunge, for the lack of a better word. Nirvana was punk, PJ kinda classic rock, AIC was a metal band.
Rocker Chick Cause he was one of a kind. Not like today's "artists" like lil wayne who can't even play a single note on a guitar and can't dare to sing without autotune. We lost a true legend.
I LOVE how Matt is set free in Soundgarden whereas in Pearl Jam Eddie ties Matt's hand on the back to create a "traditional" 4/4 drum sound. All King Animal Matt goes wild with strange signatures and unrepeating improvised fills. Amazing drummer waaaay under used in PJ.
I’ve seen quite a few exceptional performances on the Jools Holland show. Live tv music production is my biz and I’d like to point out that Jools is taking the decisions that make this possible. Providing the technical resources and time for an artist to do their absolute best is a serious commitment, financially and philosophically. Serious props to him and the show runners.
Hear hear. I've heard many people via Jools and in broader terms the BBC World Music output that I ever would (maybe before the Internet) and very grateful.
Jools Holland is a world treasure. I can’t how many great artists I’ve discovered through his show, and something about the setup makes bands perform at the top of their game. There’s magic in that room
Chris Cornell is my everything, His lyrics and melodies. His words from The Day I Tried To Live are tattooed on my chest. But Matt holds down this performance. He plays so well and I just love this band so much
Ben is a friggin' bass virtuoso-bad-ass-extrodinaire. When I first saw him in '91 (Badmotorfinger) I was like, " Who the frig is this dude stalking the stage & changing "fret hands" between eighth & sixteenth notes like it's as natural as breathing? Soundgarden rules and the 37 soy-boy butt lovers who thumbs- downed this vid are Maroon 5's fan club - 👬👬
Sometimes I just come watch this to give me hope that real music will emerge once again like it did when I first heard Badmotorfinger in my buddy’s truck as a high school kid! I right away knew I was listening to something special and promptly tossed my Cinderella and Bon Jovi cassettes away!
Matt Cameron as always killing it on the drums. While every other drummer was playing it safe, Matt set himself apart creating interesting grooves and fills that made me as a young drummer go "That was cool, but WTF?" His playing made me a better drummer. He and Dave Abbruzzese were the absolute best of their time.
Such a good unit as a band. Incredible vocals and that drumming. As soon as the guitars and bass hit the low notes it really kicks in for me. What a legend of a man. Rip Chris.
I think he had that same sweater when I saw him on King Animal tour in Pittsburgh. He called it a 'dad sweater'. Dammit, Chris. We are less for your loss.
In 2 month I am getting 47 years old. Not young anymore but also really not old. Not old but I've seen how one after another, how my heros are gonna passing by. When I see Chris, Layne or Kurt in a Video, it makes me feel so very very deeply sad.
True. The power of youth is gone, especially in the high registers. His low and mid-range vocals is still great and he's learned more technique to utilise the bluesy quality of these ranges. However, compared to rock singers his age (like Bon Jovi), Cornell is a fucking miracle. They haven't lowered the octaves of their older songs like Rusty Cage when they perform them live.
i remember hearing this song on road rash on ps1 as a kid, i mustve been 5 and now im in my 20's still listening to this in the gym. Flashbacks of the 90's!
I'm so glad I got to see them in concert. I still to this day have a hard time listening to them without getting misty eyed. His death was a hard one for me. As a teen growing up in the 90's I loved Soundgarden, AIC, Pearl Jam ,Bind Melon the list goes on and on. Losing a hero is a hard pill to swallow.
Thank you for sharing. I believe this must be one of my favorite modern versions of this song. Everything was on point. Epic song, historic rock band, unmatched vocals.
Yeah so that's pretty fricken awesome. Tone & groove for days. After 30 years Soundgarden is still one of the best live bands I've seen. I love this song & whoever posted it... Fu_king Cheers to you.
This is a great recording and appearance! Now it’s all we have left I’m sorry to have to say! I’m still in shock that Cornell is gone! That is just Not right! WTF happened? How and Why did it happen? Why did he meet his end so soon! That just isn’t right! Gone Way too soon! I was Not ready for this one! It’s like a Gut Punch that you didn’t see coming. I took Cobains death hard! I was depressed for a year afterwards and it was difficult to pull myself out of that bad feeling that I had! His death was unexpected and early but this is like a body blow your Not ready for! It’s like someone hit me so hard that I got knocked down and can’t breathe now. It knocked the wind out of me! How do I recover from this? I don’t want to accept this outcome! I want him back! GodDamn it! I want it to all to be either a sick joke or some kind of mistake and to have him back healthy and happy! And for him to say sorry folks it was just a misunderstanding! I’m back and I’m fine!! Not this! Dead and Gone Scenario! We are losing our best and most talented people! This is like a waking nightmare! You know its bad but you can’t wake up and get back to where you were. Safe and warm undercover in bed! Instead your out on a ledge somewhere and in danger of falling off. What a horrid feeling of despair! Why Chris Why? Life’s Not Fair! This is Not Fair! Im Crying as I Write this. Now I have to wonder why your gone for the next 20 or so years until I die too? Will I get the answer then? I hope so cause I can’t accept this now!! I don’t want to! You can’t be gone already! I’m going to miss that Voice for the next 20 years too? Not Fair! No Way is that Fair! You are going to be missed by first your wife and children and then your many fans for the next 50 years! There’s Never going to another one like you! Just like there will never be another Kurt Cobain or another Prince! All of you Unique People and Talents! Like I said we’re losing our best people way too fast and early! It’s just Not Right! I guess I’ll have to accept it but I don’t want to and I don’t like it! Goodbye Chris 😭😩🥺😓😱😭😢😩☹️😓😥😰😭😢😩☹️ Maybe I’ll meet you somewhere on the Astral plane someday and we can talk! I have a lot of questions to ask you but the main one is WHY? Why did you go So Soon? I’d like an answer! RIP
