Matt Cameron’s approach is so incredible. The power, the time, the fluid fills that just completely flow and don’t distract from the rhythmic structures inside of each song.. Hugely underrated.
You ask any pro and Matt Cameron is top top top. Plays what's required for the music. Technically insane and just effortless. When guys like Taylor Hawkins (RIP) are like dude does shit we can only dream of , you know he's an all-timer. I could listen to him all day
That’s the thing that impresses me most. Cameron does not sound like he’s playing weird stuff. Carey has same fluid style. There are technical drummers that have no sense what serves the songs and what sounds musical. It just sticks out and sounds odd. Cornell was also on par dealing with complex rythms while singing.
I'm convinced Matt Cameron is one of the more inventive and talented drummers in popular music. He's just so so good and different with all of his grooves and fills. Nothing feels generic
How can Cornell sing while playing the main riff? It's like he sings in one time signature and the riff plays in another. And then the outro sludgy riff, it constantly throws you off. Mind-boggling and he does it effortlessly. What a loss of a pure talent, songwriting, guitar-playing and singing all rolled into one handsome package of a man.
deadstar44 Tom Morello said that he had a hard time on a few songs audioslave did just for that reason. He had his own style for sure RUSTY CAGE seems that way to me.
just imagine if he was geddy lee, who does the same thing and plays keyboards with his feet at the same time, then, will play keyboards with his hands, bass notes with his feet and sing all in one song
Matt Cameron is just so damn good. Definitely one of the most important drummers in rock for the last 30 years having drummed for and written songs for Soundgarden and Pearl Jam for so long.
Sorry but bonzo would be on drums with Peart. Taylor would be a roadie. Love the foo fighters and Taylor RIP, but I will be straight and separate musical talent from personality.
The loss of Chris hit me harder than any musician ever. Still makes me sad as i sit here on lockdown in 2020. Soundgarden got me through school and changed the way i thought about making music.
Same! Only recently has it "sunk in" and is believable that he is really gone. Still not easily accepted and still a HUGE bummer knowing there will never be more of his great (new) work released.
@@eliborg Yes, I recently read about that. What a mess......crossing my fingers on that one. How exhausting it must be when involved in so many lawsuits and constantly bickering with everyone.
I hear ya...never really bothers me too much when a celeb or artist dies but Chris Cornell hit me hard and still does when I think about it or listen to him. Still doesn't seem real. So, so sad. I wanted to be him when I was a teenager and to think someone who appears to have it all - one of the greatest voices in music, looks, a beautiful family and to still not be happy inside - a scary thought! His lyrics make more sense now, to me. RIP, man, a true legend x
It’s fucked to think Matt is originally a guitar player and basically drums on the side. What a fucking beast. Soundgarden really was one of a kind, all 4 super talented musicians.
And Chris was a drummer and guitar player/singer on the side (in the beginning lol). Yeah crazy, but it also explains why Matt wrote such great songs and why Chris came up with some quirky time signatures on some songs he wrote.
To me, Soundgarden always felt like a supergroup even though they technically weren't- Kim is such a great guitarist, Matt is such a great drummer, Ben is such a great bassist and Chris was such a great singer that it's insane to think they just got together organically.
Boys and girls you are witnessing greatness ..amazing musicians that are from another planet..RIP Chris May your voice be wailing away in the stars and in the heavens. Thanks for hanging with us all these years..
One of the greatest voices in my generation. My wife and I still miss him terribly. He brought authentic soul to every song he performed, even when it was a half-ass inside joke like "Big Dumb Sex." Very few bands like Soundgarden have ever hit hard like this after such a long hiatus, but when I saw them in Newark NJ at the Prudential, I was lifted...the entire crowd was into it, and you could feel the feedback. It was utterly amazing, shoulder to shoulder with everyone there, and the set list alone demonstrated a love and passion that I'll remember for the rest of my life.
Taylor miming along to Matt's drumming is spot on! He knew the song to the smallest detail. He would have been one of the few drummers to slay that song!
And as CC indicated...they were thrilled to have a legend cover their song. When I heard JC sing his rendition, I was floored. Pay homage to both Soundgarden and Cash :)
I grew up metal but when I heard louder I knew a new era was not taking over but joining the good fight. PJ, Soundgarden, AIC, Nirvana, and all others. Thank u
Aside from the drumming being incredible in general, plus the drum SOUND, the run Cameron does starting from 3:18 is one of the greatest things I've ever heard.
Matt Cameron is a beast. Such creative beats, unexpected fills, and boy does he hit the fuck out of those drums. Such economy of movement. He doesn’t take a big swing at the drums but whips that wrist and hits the fuck out of them.
These Guys,Including Johnny Cash, And Sound Garden!!! They Both Kicked Country’s Ass And The Rock Version, Both Kicked Ass!!!!! U Guys All Did An Excellent Bad Ass Song 🎧 With The GREAT 👍 JOHNNY CASH!!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ❤️ THEM BOTH!!!!
Yeah see how nice it is with a small venue Chris live vocals in that small room sound just like the studio version fantastic...because the place isn't super huge...thanks what a great performance of
You know these guy's were always referred to being a grunge band....but for me the were they really encompass alot more than that..I hear punk funk and just straight ahead bad ass rock-'n'-roll...they really worked outside of the box ..just a really complete rock-'n'-roll band....we all sure miss your genius Chris...❤️❤️❤️
Monster band! They played like the lyrics, it's a phillips head.... Beautiful, everyone will pass, leave something you love behind.... One of the best things to do in life.
this is the best fuckin band ever!!! ever member in the band act as a element of nature it seems like... when all together its like a perfect storm!. damn Matt Cameron is a solid fucking drummer!. i think every drummer should take some pointers from this guy!... ill follow this band forever!
Loved that! Absolutely love it! brought a smile to my face. Thanks for posting this! 👍 (funny how each performance of this song makes you fall in love with it each time)
Anyone notice Taylor Hawkins from Foo Fighters air drumming at 3:10 ? Anyone who knows drums knows that Matt Cameron is one of the best of the best. Awesome vid!
