I have the Wharfedale Evo 4.2's, and they produce a little warm sound with a good bass response. The amt tweeters aren't overly bright, but still produce great treble. This test displays the B&W 606 S2's which are a bit more dynamic, with a slight brighter sound in the mid range to me. Great comparison between the speakers. Well done 👍
I have both pairs. I bought the 606 S2 Anniversary after the Evo, because I expected a brighter sound. I got a brighter sound, but I don't really need that level of brightness. In this kind of video comparison, the 606 S2 sounds better for me, but in a live comparison in my house the Evo produces more detail. The bass is not as deep, but it sounds harder, faster and more dynamic. Also, the sound stage is wider. Everyone who listened to my 606 S2 said the sound was clearer, but when I made a comparison with quick switching, they all said the Evo had more sound, more detail, and a wider soundstage. I don't know why, 606 sounds more cheerful. When I listen to something new, I don't know for some details and I'm happy, but when I listen to it from Evo, I hear something more. On the 606 the guitar sounds mellow. It's like comparing a guitar with plastic and metal strings. Now I only use 606 and am trying to give them a second chance.
Hi very interesting comments on the 606, as you know b&w brought out S3 version, i a-b against my old dm602s3 I stillloke my old speakers . Regards mark

I have just bought the 606 s2's brand new after listening to them on an hour long demo next to the Triangle Borea 03's. The aspect that instantly made me buy them is their tweeter. They generate an image that I've never heard before. Wide and tall, it's like some giant invisible PA's are sitting right in front of me. The Triangles are very good speakers but sound less exciting, have less spark on the top end but their tweeter is just normal, you instantly know where the tweeters are at; but with the 606 s2's they disappear into the whole room
In August 2023 the price of the 606's is £399 and the Wharfedale's I can't see for less than £649. The price vs performance for me is with the 606's purely based on the prices. Having said that I think the Evo speakers do sound more balanced, less bright and maybe overall the best choice if you listen to many genres, or you want something forgiving on bad recordings and have the budget. I picked up the 606's can't wait to use them. In the audition I played some Herbie Hancock (Head Hunters), AIM (Hinterland) and Polyphia (Remember that you will die). Polyphia sounded extremely good, so I would say they work well with complex music.
@@shaunyweaver1144 Yeah I prob should have waited a month or 2 but it's because the S3's have just been released so outlets are keen to sell old stock.
My english is not so good. You wrote the Wharefdale "maybe overall the best choice" but you bought the B&W? I am in try and error phase can´t buy both at same time. I test the B&W 606 S3 now. But the Evo 4.2 are at same price hmmm Or I could get a 2 old use pair of Lintons 85 included the stand for same price.
@@chotafallen8390 The Wharfdale's are much more expensive, where I live, so the sound is more balanced but is it worth the extra £250. I decided not. I really like the 606's but their one downfall for me is the base can be too much. The detail is still very good and I'm enjoying them.
Your content has no value to your audience if you’re not constructive in nature and describe what you believe are the reasons these speakers have differences in detail and nuances. It’s your post. Cheers
I'm leaning heavily on getting the EVO 4.2's in the very near future so this comparison was interesting. The B&W tweeter was waaaay too hot for my liking with electronic music but I thought they sounded pretty good on classical. IMO, the 4.2's are clearly the more balanced speaker and can play everything seemingly well.
I have Evo 4.2 in a high celling livingroom. I feed them with a Schiit Vidar power amp 2x 100W on 8 Ohms and 2x 200W on 4 Ohms. Evo has a really nice textured bass, with a warmer character, but it doesent means that you loss details. They are in one price level but not in one quality level. Evo is 1 step higher, if someone don"t like this fact, lets see the weight, dimensions, driver structure etc.
B and W s were the worst speakers I’ve ever owned , they made even music I loved , very tiring and they seemed to confuse sharpness as clarity . Like someone turned on an old transistor radio in comparison to a quad 11l .
