1776-1812 was 36 years later when Britain tried to regain back the American Colonies during the "War of 1812." On 09/12/1814 the British Royal Navy failed in their attempt to take down Fort McHenry. And on 09/13/1814 the British Royal Navy left the port of Baltimore never sacking the fort nor taking down the flag. The rest as they say is history.

You might enjoy this song, The Battle of New Orleans, by Johnny Horton. Here are some of the lyrics: In 1814 we took a little trip Along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississippi We took a little bacon and we took a little beans And we caught the bloody British in the town of New Orleans. . . . beginning g of chorus. . .chorus continues We fired once more and they began to running' On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

Sorry, spell check changed "mighty Mississip" in the second line to Mississippi, which destroys the rhyme.

Tippecanoe is the County, Battle Ground is the city and place where it happened and La Fayette, and West La Fayette, and Purdue University is there. Neil Armstrong went to school at Purdue; That’s One Small Step For A Man, One Giant Leap For Mankind.

When president Thomas Jefferson left office in 1808. He did not believe in a standing army and gutted the military. He did this because of his belief in limited government. This backfire when his vice president James Madison took office in 1808 after Jeffersons finished his second term of office as president. President James Madison was left with a limited military and with militias that can be called up within minutes of a conflict. They were known as the Minute Men. The British knew this and invaded America hoping to take America back after losing her in the "Revolutionary War" for Americas Independance. This ventured [The War of 1812] failed miserably for the British. The British and American representative signed the "Treaty of Ghent" in Belgium on Christmas eve 12/24/1814. Thus, ending the war of 1812. Since then, we have been allies.

This is a great comment :) most don't know a lot about this time period in America but it's very fascinating. To add on to your comment you could go into the formation of modern Navy, the Marines which was all because of the Barberry States and the "taxes" they were charging on shipping. ✌
@2Cambourne
@2Cambourne 6 месяцев назад
That is correct. The Barbary States were getting tributes by western and European Nations. It was a form of bribery and extortion. Presidents George Washington and President John Adams paid the tribute to the Sultans. It was President Thomas Jefferson who sent the newly form Navy to defeat the Barbary Privates thus ending the Barbary Wars. Western and European Nations never had to pay tributes again. Thanks to President Thomas Jefferson and the United States Navy and Marines. @@brianclemetson8781

Ryan, they were really good back then at writing absurdly long run-on sentences, weren't they? He ran into a pronunciation problem when he tried to pronounce (Battle of) Chippewa, which got the accent on syllable 3, when it should have been on #1.

The Brits also encouraged the Barbary Pirate nations to attack US shipping even though the US had a treaty with them. After the 1812 war, this resulted in the US going to war with the Barbary Pirates again. A great video documenting this is here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lcJhmm3D3OY.html. I appreciate your interest in our history. We have many citizens who either don't know or fail to appreciate these things. Thank you :)

General Ross's family has a coat of arms with an arm holding a ragged American flag
@jeffyoung60

And today most likely anyone looking at the Ross Family Coat of Arms would not have the slightest clue what the ragged American flag connotates. Some might even mistake the flag as some sort of familial connection between the Ross family and the United States which have Ross turning in his grave.

Its Russia vs Ukraine 200 years earlier. Their navy gave them such advantage. The Americans at this time were just babies in the world and they stood up to a full grown adult. Its actually incredible and shows why you can never defeat the USA.

I used to compare the Russian/Ukrainian war to the American Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 until I did research and learned that the CIA installed Zelensky, uprooting an elected president that was pro-Russia and replacing him with a pro-west president. Also following an on the ground youtuber talking to Ukrainians talking about how thankful they were for Russia coming in

There are two videos that I think you should react to. The First is called "The Revolutionary War in the North: Animated Battle Map" and "The Revolutionary War in the South: Animated Battle Map." Both are by the American Battlefield Trust. These are fantastic videos giving you more detailed information than Oversimplified's videos but not being too long either. I hope you react to them I think you would really enjoy them. That being said this was a decent video but not really the best as it barely mentioned the Battle of Baltimore, didn't mention USS Constitution vs HMS Guerriere or The Battle of New Orleans at all. It did a great job at explaining what led up to the war and the battles in the North but come on! Missing out on the two most famous battles of the war, USS Constitution and New Orleans. lol

Keep Toronto and Quebec. It would have been better for British Columbia to have joined the United States as another state of the union. For decades now, American and Canadian filmmakers have been using British Columbia as a stand-in for an idealized version of Washington State.

He's not a Brit, he's from South Africa, lol. May still be part of the commonwealth, but people from South Africa aren't Brits 😂. Your New Zealand Family, a family of Kiwis went to the US on their way to and from Europe, went to CA, NY, FL and TX. Beesleys (UK couple) first time in the US was when they were 19, they went to NYC (planning their next trip to TX and CA) Mr. H and Friends went to FL and TX. Jolly (Josh and Ollie), British RU-vidrs have been to many states in the US, CA and TX both included, along with Georgia and Louisiana. All in that group, minus the Beesleys went to TX and loved it, so not sure what you're talking about. Oh and I forgot Office Bloke Daz and his family who spent a few years living in Texas and enjoyed their time in TX. Oh and I've only mentioned Brits and their commonwealth countries, so I'll mention another family, that isn't in a commonwealth country, there's the Graham family in Slovakia that wants to visit Texas. Edit: And I forgot about Eva, who was raised throughout Europe and many to many different countries and enjoyed TX, despite her mishap at the border, though she did prefer Wyoming and Montana because of the nature

That's what it's turning out to be along with the British Parliament. Both governments have followed the disastrous path of Imperial China and medieval Korea. Both countries' respective governments devolved into two major parties constantly at odds with each other to the extant of paralyzing their nations and preventing any real reform. That's what you see today in the U.S. and in the U.K.

Yeah cause a prime minister is any better 😂. Like Jeff said the 2 party system is a problem, George Washington warned about it.
