@@fannybuster NO IT ISN'T. We do not pray to it, we do not ask it for magical favors it can't provide and regardless of whatever you think...the flag is real! It is a representation of our journey as a nation, unity as a people and commitment to rights we believe any living person has a right to. Contrary to what idiots think, unlike religion, we do not start genocidal wars like religion.....but we do finish them!

I get upset at this video whenever I see people react to it, because the story told in the video is completely fabricated. 99% of it is false... the flag was not being held up by dead soldiers, the British did not try to shoot down the flag, doing so would have made no sense for them to do what so ever. Shooting down the flag would have meant nothing and the men manning the fort would have known that as well as the British. If they had managed to shoot it down, that wouldn't have meant that the soldiers manning the fort would have just magically surrendered. Very few American soldiers died that night and in fact, we kicked the British navy's ass that night. I am an extremely patriotic conservative American and I love this country, but I also love history, which is why I can't stand this video

The American flag is not just a symbol. It is every single person in America’s flag. The Eagle represents the USA, but the flag is held dearly to us because of our forefathers, giving their lives to keep it flying to break away from impression and give us this wonderful life. We have here now most people forget that. I was raised with 10 brothers and sisters my dad was a 21 year army so we moved a lot, but I’ve got every branch in my family tree for generations back the only branch we don’t have is the Coast Guard. There’s not a day that doesn’t go by that I don’t stop a bit and thank him or stop a cop and thank them for what they do, they put their lives on the line just like the vets, the firefighters as well. The paramedics anyone who put their lies on the line I will thank them. The flag belongs to every single person who is a US citizen it’s not just as symbol it is our flag, and we are so very proud of it. We never let it touch the ground.

Christian version of the story. There was a land attack the next day by the BrIrish Army against the city of Baltimore. That same flag is still preserved to this day, holes and all.

Yes… It was the War of 1812. We were a nation in 1812 and no longer colonies and we had our flag. I’ve been to Fort William McHenry in Baltimore Harbor. That flag, torn and darkened is preserved in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC. I majored in world History and American History. Thank you for appreciating the USA! We are a melting pot and such a mixture of every nation. I thank my ancestors for coming here; I am blessed. Thank you for this reaction!! We do have a very special anthem and believe it or not it’s the NATIONAL ANTHEM! It is for every single American whether they like it or not. Some people think we should anthems for this group and that group but it all comes down to we just have one anthem and even though there’s a handful of people who want to change all of this and kneel when the anthem is played or worse, make their own anthem which isn’t even close to representing the United States! Francis Scott Key was there when this was all going down and he wrote about what he saw which was later turned into the anthem. Some people just want to throw some words together and call it their anthem. To me, that’s just not American and is very divisive. Americans who are proud of our flag and proud to sing the one and only National Anthem are the true patriots of this country. Sorry but I get so tired of a few people trying to change everything our soldiers, veterans fought and died for! I love my country, I love my flag, I love my National Anthem and I love my freedom! Thank you again for this wonderful reaction. God bless you and yours!! ❤🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

You asked why the war of 1812 started ? Briefly, after the Barbary wars when we destroyed the pirates and weren’t getting robbed anymore, Britain 🇬🇧 decided that the US was making too much money, and felt they deserved it, or some of it, or…..? Then in 1814 after we kicked the British out again, we had to go back to the pirates and make it perfectly clear to leave our boats alone, because the Brit’s had encouraged the pirates to resume their attacks, as the U.S. Navy was busy fighting the Royal Navy. “Peace was achieved through the mouth of our cannons “= Stephen Decatur. Was all he said when he returned with not only peace treaties, but restitution for all the ships that the pirates had robbed. We don’t negotiate with terrorists became the motto almost simultaneously as we became a country. The United States Navy was founded for the purpose of combatting pirates. It is written in the founding documents.

Actually, Great Britain wasn't recognizing our sovereignty as a nation and they would capture our ships wherever they found them and press our sailors into the British navy. So, 1812 was our second war with England.
@dominicbuckley8309
@dominicbuckley8309 6 месяцев назад
In 1812, it was the United States that declared war on Britain, not the other way round. President Madison sided with 'war hawks' in Congress, calculating to annex Canada while Britain was engaged in Europe, fighting the dictatorship of Napoleon. Although trade restrictions and the naval impressment of sailors is commonly cited as the cause for the war, the states most affected (the maritime states of new England) voted *against* war; it was the states of the south and west, which had been losing thousands of slaves escaping to Canada each year, which voted in favor of war in 1812.

Grew up in Baltimore, and I have been to the fort many times. I'm very glad you have the name of the fort correct, it's Fort McHenry, not fort henry. Big part left out is the British were capturing American ships because we were trading with the French. That's the reason for the 1812 war. Also the British had just finished burning Washington. They also landed men at North Point and Havre de Grace in Maryland. Our troops were over whelmed. But citizens (mostly from the Baltimore area called Highlandtown (mainly Scotsman and Irish) grabbed their own guns and joined the troop and forced the British back. Big reason the 2nd amendment is so important to us.

Although the Star Spangled Banner is uniquely an American anthem, it is all of humanity's anthem. America has taken in more immigrants than any country at any time in history. America has sacrificed more of its people for the benefit of others, than any country throughout history. America has spent more money, provided more food, medicine, technology, freed more enslaved people, and raised more people out of poverty than any nation in all of human history. America has fought more wars for the benefit of other nations than any country throughout history. The Star Spangled Banner is not just an American anthem, it's all freedom loving people's anthem. That said, you should always enter legally and not just run across the border, like is currently going on.

This was part of the British plan known as "The Battle for Baltimore." During the "War of 1812." On Sept. 12,1814 British Ships of war approached the port of Baltimore Maryland. In the entire British Navy, there were only 8 Bomb Ships. Five of them sitting in the Patapsco River in Maryland. They were the most powerful siege artillery ships afloat. Onboard one of these British Warships was American lawyer and negotiator Francis Scott Key. For 25 hrs. straight the British Bombarded and shelled Fort McHenry for 25 hrs. The British Navy never sacked the fort, and the Flag never came down. On 12/24/1814 The Treaty of Ghent was signed by the British and American Representatives in Ghent Belgium a Flemish City in Belgium. The signers for the Americans were: John Quincy Adams, Henry Clay, Albert Gallatin, James Bayard and Jonathan Russell. With this signing it finally ended the War of 1812. And America was able to keep her independence from Great Britain. And have remained allies ever since. In 1931 Francis Scott Key's "Star-Spangled Banner" became the official National Anthem of the United States. President Herbert Hoover signed it into a Resolution in public law in 1931. Today that very flag that withstood the 25hrs. of bombardment by the British Royal Navy on 09/12/1814 is hung proudly in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC. The rest as they say is history

War of 1812 was part of the English war with France. France still had colonies in Canada and so England was restricting American sea lanes over here along our coasts. When America pushed back, England saw that as a prime opportunity to take America back and expanded their French war to include America. Other than this attack, they were able to sack Washington DC and burn down the first White House as well as a few other coastal land attacks. They were mostly concerned about France so even though they had sacked Washington DC, they left after this attempt failed with the fleet attacking this fort. They were hoping things would have gone quicker and needed resources other places. Like France.

Wow. Just about every single word you said was wrong. The War of 1812 was entirely separate from the Napoleonic wars occurring in Europe at the same time. The French colonies in Canada had actually been ceded to Britain in 1765, at the end of the Seven Years' War, so there was no fighting going on in Canada until the United States declared war. Both sides of the European conflict placed restrictions on neutral countries trading with their enemies, and would stop and search neutral ships to make sure no military equipment was being carried. In 1812, the United States declared war on Britain, not the other way round. For two years, a combination of British soldiers, Canadian settlers (both English and French speaking), First Nations, and former American slaves fought off repeated American incursions into Canada, including the burning of York, the capital of Upper Canada. Eventually, with the end of Napoleonic war in Europe in 1814, Britain was able to supply ships and manpower for a counter-attack. A series of hit-and-run-raids was made along the coast by a small mobile force of about 5000 seaborne infantry: nowhere large enough to re-occupy the country (in fact they were outnumbered five to one just by the defenders around Baltimore), but sufficient to compel the United States into peace negotiations. To get an idea of the true priorities of the two sides, you only have to look at the opening positions at those peace negotiations, which started *before* the defense of Baltimore. The British wanted the borders to be returned to their pre-war lines, and the establishment of a native homeland as a buffer state between; the Americans demanded the annexation of Canada, and the return of all escaped slaves. So even when the British had the best strategic advantage, after burning Washington DC, they only asked for the existing borders to be respected: that's hardly the action of a power looking to re-exert colonial control.

Ask a veteran why he fought and sacrificed all...their answer will never change "I fought not for government nor personal gain. I fought for an idealism that is sown into every brick and rock that built the homes of my children and the countless generations to follow. An idea that all peoples are inherently free."

I love my national anthem. I'm a stauch supporter in the protection of the flag. I hate to see it desicrated. It bothers me when people wear it as clothing. This story is a piece of fiction. Only 4 men died at Ft McHenry. There's no way they were holding up the five ton 90-foot flag pole. It took a dozen men just to raise the 50 pound Star Spangled Banner. I apologize for those pushing this misrepresentation of the events at Ft McHenry. The truth should be a good enough story.

America was its own country on July 4th, 1776. When this happened we were already our own country. King George wanted the land, so he came after us.

This event happened during the war of 1812, NOT the revolutionary war, the place is actually called Fort McHenry and it is still located on an island in the Baltimore Maryland harbor, today, it is a museum, and that flag is still there on display, DURING the war of 1812 the British still considered the United States of America to be their colonies and called them the colonies till after the war was concluded, This is why so many Americans like myself and many others place such value on our great flag, we understand the very high price that was paid for us to have that flag, I and many others are quite willing to fight, bleed, kill and die for that flag, and will do it without a second thought or a single regret.

Now you know why Americans have such pride, not only for the flag and the sacrifices those before us have made, but the sacrifices we still make to keep this country and the great democratic political experiment safe and alive. Also you know now why the American flag must never touch the ground. Off topic, I've noticed your love for American baseball where, of course, our anthem is played before each game. Before you go to a game you need to watch the video "What Is The Difference Between Pitches? And Why Are There So Many?" so you can further understand the difficulty hitters have in just making contact.

It was about trade. The British were not happy about the USA was under cutting their trade routes. This is from memory, so I'm sure there was more to it.

We're good people that are problematic. We fuss loud and shout at stupidity and ourselves. We are the people that will become one in an instant. I wish we could shine when normality bores us. We do know each other very well and in God we trust.
