True red blooded American and it just pisses me off how many Americans spit on the memory of the Patriots who actually fought that night. You know since the attack happened after they lowered the flag at dusk as is correct action, that the fort was a military fort and it returned fire all night, 6 men died that night, Francis Scott Key was well on his way to Baltimore before the fighting started and didn’t remain on a British ship with the prisoners he did negotiate their release and they were released before the attack and the British prisoners released before the attacks, and soldiers returned fire all night to keep the British ships from coming ashore (all 6 of them). Let’s not act like those soldiers fight did not matter please.

I understand the importance of respecting the flag and what it represents. However, I believe that kneeling can be a respectful way to express concerns when the country is not meeting its ideals. People kneel before God and royalty as a sign of respect, so why is kneeling during the anthem viewed so negatively? Perhaps it's because it draws attention to issues we'd rather not face. Additionally, most of the content in this video is inaccurate, which could also be seen as disrespectful of our history. Stomping on the flag, putting it on the ground, and desecrating it in any way is always unacceptable. However, kneeling for the flag, or for anything, is an ultimate sign of quiet respect. The bashing of people kneeling for the flag needs to stop, as it’s just another way to honor and show respect, whether we like it or not has nothing to do with it. The Seige of Baltimore Sept 12 - 15, 1814 (bombardment of Fort McHenry Sept 13-14 for 25 hours) was the backdrop for Mr. Key to writing his poem (which was later put to music) from his observations from one of the prison barges in the bay that fateful night. Although this version of the story is a bit embellished, a lot of the facts are true. Seeing the flag throughout the night and morning showing the Americans would not surrender is the highlight of his poem. The British not being able to neutralize the fort and capture the town and having expended most all of their ammunition, withdrew. Soon after a "cease fire' was called and a Treaty signed.

@@clsinds5876 If I'm not mistaken, during wartime, the Flag stays up, especially during an active battle. The British, at the time, had the largest fleets at sea than anyone else, so I'm sure they had some over there fighting Napoleon/French. I don't think the entire fleets were there during the War of 1812. That was when the British burned the White House down. Yes, the story was embellished a bit but, the the premise of the whole story was that there was a skirmish and the British tried to burn down the fort and the Flag because they couldn't get past the fort to get any leverage but failed to do it. Francis Scott Key told what happened because he witnessed it all and thus wrote the poem and it ended up being our National Anthem. When my brother died, they played the 21 gun salute. My mom could never hear that again without breaking down.
@Nomad-vv1gk
@Nomad-vv1gk 4 месяца назад
@@Momtojoshcanpark Your brother receive what is correctly called a "rifle volley" a 21 gun salute is only rendered to monarchs and presidents. The practice of Firing Three Rifle Volleys Over The Grave: This practice originated in the old custom of halting the fighting to removed the dead from the battlefield. Once each army had cleared its dead, it would fire three volleys to indicate that the dead had been cared for and that they were ready to back to the fight. The fact that the firing party today consists of seven riflemen, firing three volleys, does NOT constitute a 21-gun salute. Although the most common makeup of a military salute today is eight members, consisting of seven rifles and a non commissioned officer (NCO) in charge of the detail, there is no official number that must be used. Whether 3, or 8, or even 10 firing, it is the three volleys that is the real salute of honor. 21-Gun Salute: All personal salutes may be traced to the prevailing use in earlier days to ensure that the saluter placed himself in an unarmed position. Salute by gunfire is the most ancient ceremony. In the earliest days, seven guns was a recognized British National Salute. Those early regulations stated that, although a ship could fire only seven guns, the forts could fire for honors three shots to one shot afloat. In that day powder of sodium nitrate was easier to keep on shore than at sea. In time, when the quality of gun powder improved by the use of potassium nitrate, the sea salute was made equal to the shore salute - - 21 guns as the highest national honor. For a period of time, monarchies received more guns fired than republics, but eventually, republics claimed equality.

Loved your reaction to this important story in American History. SO IMPORTANT. My generation were taught to cherish and respect America and all the freedoms our forefathers fought so hard for. We pledged Allegiance everyday in school and in music class we re e taught ALL of America's songs. To this day I have a very hard time NOT standing up and placing whenever I hear these Patrotic songs even if I am at home alone and the songs are on T.V. !! Often my eyes become teary in memory of all of our military for the sacrifices they make for us every day. I wish we could renew that sense of supreme loyalty and pride in the U.S.A. once again. 🇱🇷💙❤🙏 Greg, I think your reaction to this video was my favorite one so far. I sensed your genuine emotions as the story unfolded. I also grew up close to Philly and went to Betsy Ross's house where she sewed the first flag. It left a lasting impression on me for real !!! Thank you ! 😔❣

It was dozens of ships, not hundreds, but the rest of the story is pretty much accurate. Sadly, the ones responsible for ensuring that all the words of the song were accurate did not do their job very well. It is NOT "What so proudly we held" - it is actually "What so proudly we hailed";

It shows he knows nothing of his own history. When this battle took place, Africans were not allowed to be citizens of the USA. This battle took place during the War of 1812, not the Revolutionary War. Africans, whether free born, freed or enslaved were not granted citizenship in the USA at that time. In fact, escaped slaves in both wars fought on the side of the British, who granted them freedom for doing so. This is the real American history white people are afraid to have taught in schools.

This story is full of lies and it has nothing to do with people standing or kneeing. Stop with that lie. When this battle took place, no African, whether free born, freed or enslaved was allowed citizenship in the USA so why should it have any significance to Black Americans. In fact, escaped slaves and free born Africans, fought with the British during the War of 1812 and the Revolutionary War as the British granted them freedom for their service. America guaranteed keeping or putting them in slavery for their service. That is the truth of American history white people now are passing laws to prevent from being taught in schools.

This is why so many of us elders who survived the second world war have a depth of understanding that you never wear the flag as clothing, a hat, a Face covering and how important it is to raise your flag in the morning bring it down and fold it properly in the evening and never let the flag touch the ground. Those who wear items made to look like the American flag show absolute disrespect to the lives lostinto the flag itself.

Original poem O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light, What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming, Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight O’er the ramparts we watch’d were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there, O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave? On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes, What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep, As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses? Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam, In full glory reflected now shines in the stream, ’Tis the star-spangled banner - O long may it wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave! And where is that band who so vauntingly swore, That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion A home and a Country should leave us no more? Their blood has wash’d out their foul footstep’s pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave, And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave. O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand Between their lov’d home and the war’s desolation! Blest with vict’ry and peace may the heav’n rescued land Praise the power that hath made and preserv’d us a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto - “In God is our trust,” And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
