My dad went to GaTech in the '60's, I was 12 when they split the Championship in '90 with Colorado, the next year the Jackets came to Williams-Brice, my pops had his '90 Citrus Bowl bright yellow National Championship T-shirt on, they lost to the Gamecocks, it was a long walk back to the car, lol.
So we all know. Sandstorm was first played at Williams Brice against LSU 2008 in a lost. The Next Time is was played was this evening (by the way that 3rd and 4th down may have been the loudest continual moments at WB, after Ace punt return against Georgia was the loudest single moment). The moment that made sandstorm a tradition was later that year against Vandy. Carolina was playing awful, down 10-7 in the 4th. A timeout was called and student section started a “We want sandstorm” chant, which they finally played. The next play was a 80 yard touchdown to Alshon. Tradition born!
I'll second that...after that Georgia game, esp when Ace took it to the house....and Alabama in 2010..these are the loudest I've experienced. My father, however, who attended Carolina in the 80s told me there were some Georgia games then, where the stadium was swaying....it was so loud
Yes that Georgia game when they were #5 and we were #6 was hands down the loudest I have heard Willy B in my 35 years. The jumbo screen actually went out for a while. But wait till this Saturday.....🐊⚰️
@@JoeMilllionaire 2011 and 2013 Clemson home games the stadium was swaying so he’s not bullshitting. One of the wildest things I’ve ever experienced, louder than nascar races at darlington and other short tracks (if you’ve been to any of those)
I was at that game. My sophomore year at USC. That game was insane! One of the best games I have ever attended. Williams Brice was absolutely rocking!! There is not another stadium in the country that can duplicate what Williams Brice can when the Gamecocks are winning. There is not a more passionate fan base! South Carolinians love their state's University! Go Gamecocks!
Not trying to hate or be an asshole but look at university of Wisconsin jump around or penn state white out its insane me personally though im a west virginia fan and virginia tech fan (and yes I know theyre rivals) and I'd say these two teams have some of the rowdiest fans in the country (after big wins Morgantown can be scary tbh police in riot gear tear gas and bonfires in the street not to mention students throwing rocks and snowballs at the police and firetrucks it looks like the purge🤣🤣🤣) like I said though not trying to diss but USC isn't that nuts compared to some other schools which isn't necessarily a bad thing its good for a school to have devoted fans that aren't nuts
@@bassandbucks4282 BUT NO STADIUM SWAYS LIKE WILLY B!!!!! “IF IT AINT SWAYIN’ THEY AINT PLAYIN’!!!!!” 💯💪🏻🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓 the upper sections rock up and down as we jump!!!!!!!!
@@StubbsMillingCo. at tech we have enter sandman where people make so much noise and jump around so much the stadium literally shakes to the point where it registers on seismographs usc might get crazy but i promise you it doesn't get that crazy🤣
@@bassandbucks4282 🤷🏼♂️ it may shake. But it doesn’t SWAY! Like being at the top of a pine tree as the wind blows, you better hang on. Willy B is the most energetic stadium in the country. Anyone whos ever been under the light, specifically, knows what I’m talking about. I’m not talking half an inch. I’m talking FEET of movement. 3-4 feet movement, concrete 4 stories high moving 3-4 feet up and down. It’s wild.
Lane stadium is ranked as the 7th loudest and wildest stadium where as Williams brice is 10 at tech we have a fucking cannon we shoot off that combined with 66,000 crazed fans jumping and screaming to enter sandman creates an extremely intimidating atmosphere
I was there this was totally insane. I remember pounding in the metal seatbacks in front of me so hard and so long my hands were bruised purple. The only time I have ever attended a game where I truly feel in my heart the fans literally willed this win into being. This video cannot do any justice to how crazy loud this was inside the stadium.
I was one of the 80,000 ticket holders that night. When we returned to the car, we decided to re-tailgate until 2 am. Since I only had one drink, I made sure everyone got home.
I was at that game with my dad and some fat guy in front of us said "if South Carolina wins this game I'm gonna get naked" so when sc won he took his shirt off and started dancing. I'm still scarred from that moment but go cocks!
I think it must have been in 2010. I was at Williams Bryce for the Gamecock win over #1 Alabama in 2010. With 6 min to go, the security officers started lining up around the perimeter of the field. They had no intention of letting the fans rush the field, even though it was the biggest win(at the time) in the history of the program.
I was there. It was hot, it xas sweaty, but it was incredible ! Been going to games since my grandfather took me on the 60's. Went to USC during tje George Rogers years. But nothing better than the Spurrier years !!
I'm an ole miss fan I gotta atmit I was mad after that game but I do gotta atmit we were over rated that year I mean its amazing how South Carolina has gotten this good
I was there that night. My first game at Billy Brice. Since I am a Clemson fan, I was the good luck charm of my gamecock friends. Of course, I haven't been back since....
Yeah. Maybe so. I just remember after the 1-10 then the 0-11 seasons, in 2000 when we beat New Mexico St at home to start the season, that field was covered with fans. But you could understand why after going 1-21 in two seasons ...
this is the game sandstorm started, I was there, louie louie got banned because the stadium would not take it, sandstorm was testing it that night for shure
+Zack Fitz True, they played the occasionally, but it didn't really catch on until after this game. I had season tickets from 2001-2008 in the East upper deck. Back then they used to kick off to Thunderstruck and play "Carolina Girls" to start the 4th quarter for God knows what reason. Then they tried playing the Pirates of the Caribbean theme to stir up the crowd occasionally, which was okay, but not great. In 2008 they began testing Sandstorm by playing occasionally during TV timeouts and such. In 2009, my family bought a mini-package of tickets to the Ole Miss, Florida, and (I can't remember the other team) games. It was one of the biggest games (at that point) in school history, and they started playing Sandstorm as Carolina brought home the W. For the rest of that season, they blasted Sandstorm in the 4th quarter and replaced Thunderstruck with it for the kick offs from 2010 on. Regardless of when it was first played, this is the game that made it the anthem it has become.Go cocks
I mean ole Miss was kinda stacked that year ...Dexter mccluster ...Jevon Snead....I mean...we ended their hopes for a national championship that night...right here in Columbia. Look...if you win the SEC East...or the SEC championship outright....that's an automatic bid for a National Championship. I mean....it used to JUST be the SEC East. We had a fuckin SHOT that yr....makes my eyes water.
That double reverse is a play SC would have fallen for the last three seasons. I hope they're past that now. I was in class and a punk kid asked me if I really thought SC had something for Ole Miss that night. I said yeah, 50/50 shot at a win at home. I couldn't sleep after that game I was so amped.
@@Dev-zd3rx Ol e Miss has been ranked that high 3 more times since the 2009 game. Has usc ever? Ole Miss has won more bowl games than usc has played in. in fact, usc is one of the few games Ole Miss expects to win this season with a NCAA depleted team. We are gonna be in your end zones all day tomorrow...celebratin n shit
@@mitchellrayjackson2733 Yes we have been ranked third between 2009 and 2012. Appeared in the sec championship game/sugar bowl/capital one bowl....and where was ole miss? Getting carried by Bama and LSU come again lol
