Lack of basic fundamentals & talent are the reasons we don't have an SEC winning caliber program. That responsibility falls directly on Ray Tanner & Mark Kingston's heads. There needs to be a change, they've had more than a ample opportunity to build soild consistent SEC programs, which each have absolutely failed to do 💯

I loved Ray Tanner the baseball coach, but not so much as the AD. But in his defense, our BOT are a major issue as well. Always has been and always will be. I give Clemson credit, which I hate doing, but from top to bottom they’re all in on their athletics. Sadly, I can’t say that about USC.
I had actually forgotten about Spurrier pulling a Kiffin on y’all JP. As a Vols fan you probably already know what me feelings were for Spurrier throughout the 80’s-90’s they throttled my Vols EVERY year as they continue to even with Napier lol. I did start to respect Spurrier in later years but pulling a Kiffin on anyone is a cowardly move😊
@CarolinaJackpot this seems like the same crossroads the Gamecock baseball program was at when June Raines was forced out in 1996. Tennessee was on a roll(heck, we tried and failed to hire their coach), Clemson was coming off back to back CWS appearances and looked like they were going to win it(thanks in part to us they never did) and we had fallen behind just about every program in the SEC. It is critical this time we find the right guy to reclaim what we've lost in the last 10+ years or risk one being in the same kind of total irrelevance that N.C. State basketball is in now. Weve won two national titles in baseball, so it along with women's basketball are held to a higher standard than any of the other sports at South Carolina. Not including Texas baseball who joins the SEC next year the only SEC school who i consider to have more of a history in baseball than us is LSU. You and i both know Kingston's(and Holbrook before him) mediocrity wouldve never flown in Baton Rouge. And it damn sure wouldnt fly in Austin. Heck LSU once fired Smoke Laval (who took them to 2 CWS) in 2006 i believe because despite the CWS appearances he wasnt bringing the trophy home. They're in it for championships, i consider South Carolina baseball to have no less of a standard of success. If the coach cannot show any signs of that being the direction he has the program headed(Kingston has not) then he needs to be shown the door. This next hire will be the most vital one since Ray Tanner was first hired in 1996 as our baseball coach, it will determine what this program becomes going forward.. Tennessee is on that same roll again, Florida is a major factor, Vanderbilt is having their best run ever, Kentucky is vastly improved, oh and as for the Taters, they look yet again like it's a matter of time before they finally win it. All programs we were ahead of in 2012 that have since passed us. And i also agree it's past time for the BOT to get off their FAT LAZY A**** and start making more of a commitment to winning in the mens sports. Their "Country Club" mentality needs to stop!
JP, you are correct on Spurrier, he stopped recruiting, began to see a sinking ship mid season, was losing the team due to his lack of enthusiasm and quit.
In a very specific way what would you say your baseball coach is doing wrong? Is it recruiting? In game decision making? From an outsider perspective your disappointment is greater than the on field result. That being said I know you have a taste of the Championship in that sport.
Recruiting, decision making in game and outside the game. Team made plain dumb amateur errors in difficult games that cost us the game. Highly inconsistent play. Line up was moved around continuously through the season and into the off season. Bringing back great hitting team but only 2 guys improving from last season while others actually performed worse. Team did definitely not reach their ceiling. There's probably other complaints
JP, The problem is also the extensions he keeps giving to these mediocre coaches. Tanner is in over his head. He has no understanding of business. He continually gets hosed by coaches and their agents.
What we settle for is what we will have! The fan base but mostly the players deserve better, way to much talent to be loosing these games. Braswell has been on fire lately, why isn't he at SC right now? Will the upper echelon please get what these athletes need to win, whether it be discipline or strategic adult development. Men’s baseball team top 25 in the round of 32. Basketball and football far exceed the experts vision for the team. In football Beamer is recruiting extremely well And the great teams recruit outstanding and fill in with transfer portal. We need to be patient and give the coaches 5 yrs to rebuild a program that had suffered from young but old school coaches. Go cocks

If we don't win the Raleigh regional it will be a done deal for Kingston. If we get to the supers against Georgia and we get curb stomped. 0 and 2 and a barbecue , it's probably over for Kingston. I wanted them to hire Landon Powell when they moved on from Holbrook.
The university as a whole has always been mediocre. A few really good wins once in a blue moon over the years. A nickel is a nickel. You can’t squeeze a dollar out of it.

Kingston need to run two a days on this team. The fact they can’t make routine plays is astonishing to me. If Tanner does fire him I wouldn’t mind seeing Landon Powell having a shot at this point.
South Carolina has money… they have SEC money…. There’s no excuse why the Gamecocks can’t be a Top 15 or better year in & year out … If I’m not mistaken… I think SC ranks as a Top 15 university in revenue…. If UGA can be a top program in the country, there’s nothing in preventing SC in doing the same …. But you got to have Leadership within the university program that wants to be competitive for National Championships

I have been a gamecock fan since i was 20 years old and i have seen this school loose a lot of games, and now i am 81years old, ijust want to say that they need to get rid of Ray Tanner, and that so called head baseball coach, he has been there 11 years, and all he does is loose baseball games, this school, can not compeat in the SEC, because this school has no leadership at the top that can compeat with the SEC, this school needs to hire people that can compeat and win games, this school needs new leadership, if they want to win in the SEC.
As a long time South Carolina fan, I have just come to the realization that we simply cannot compete at the top of the conference anymore. We’ve been in this conference for over 30 years and it just has not happened. I have suffered for over 50 years watching gamecock athletics. I will always support the gamecocks, but I no longer have hope. I do not have hope that we can compete for championships. That pains me to say, but it is the truth. We simply cannot compete at the top of the conference.
Basketball there is hope for the men. Not talking winning it all but being in the tourney regularly and making Sweet 16 more often than not. That's not easy for majority of programs
I am with you. I think the program is settling for mediocrity and there is no exuse for it. I don't see any killer instinct. I don't see pitcher shutting down teams like we use to. I don't see the incredible defense we use to have. And you can say well we focus on hitters more, well the offense isn't good enough to justfiy that kind of direction.
I agree 💯 . IF you don't have a lot of quality arms and elite infield play you can't compete for any sort of championships. We know how good this program can be. Tanner did it , but Bobby Richardson had elite teams. Beautiful stadium. Perfect weather. We can do so much better in baseball. It starts with great defense on the infield.
I watched the game, once USC had 8-0 lead, I left to mow the grass and ran some errands. Came back and was blown away.....Tanner is a baseball coach and knows better.......Gary Gilmore HC at Coastal or Matt Schilling asst coach have excellent resumes. Hang in there....
I think the success that the women’s basketball team bleeds into other teams we have making us think that it’s fine. It would be interesting to see how they would act if the women’s team was average.
You are preaching to the preacher my friend. Tanner never deserved this job but 2 baseball national championships gave it to him. He has wasted millions $$ of our athletic budget and set our football program at ground zero. He can't hold Eric Hymans jock strap. Throw in the incompetence of the BOT and you end up with something that resembles the biden administration. Happy Sunday!
The infield defense is embarrassing. The second baseman and shortstop are unable to retrieve the ball out of their gloves smoothly. Third base and first base cannot handle balls hit right at them. Pitchers cannot field their position on basic baseball plays. This is a poorly coached team. Basic fundamentals taught in little league are nonexistent on this team. It is time to get back to being a solid basic fundamental team.
Brasswell made a lot of errors as SS in Baton Rouge. Your biggest mistake in baseball was letting your Pitching Coach Parker walk to Miss. State. SC was a force on the mound when he was there and you saw it yesterday what happens if you dont have elite coaches. All falls apart. Your AD should look in the mirror and ask himself what the heck he is doing.
