South Carolina Coach Dawn Staley and South Carolina Gamecocks Center Kamilla Cardoso to discuss the rising popularity of women's college basketball, Caitlin Clark's role in bringing more attention to the sport, and more.
So much attention to the women's basketball and Caitlin. I just want to say, I am big fan of great leadership and think it is invaluable in both sports and any organization. The biggest superstar I have seen in all of this is Dawn Staley. You can tell by her interviews and team performance this year, she is a superstar coach and outstanding leader.
I live in Iowa and I've been absorbing all the Clark media like a sponge. But every time Dawn is on TV, I stop and listen. She will go down as a forever Great.
@@petep5207 great move by Dawn , even if the allegations made by Duke player was true, false , or inconclusive. Dawn was very smart to not go there . Taking a visit would have stewed nonsense even if it didn’t exist before. Smart move Coach
That guy still doesn't get it. The pay "disparity" is based on revenue/ticket sales. Not someone actively making a decision about, "ok, here's how much I think these women should get." IT'S TICKET SALES.
The money can only come if it's there. Once the league is profitable, payroll can be addressed. I just don't understand all of the criticism from the WNBA veterans. the opportunity is there with all of the young talent to really make positive changes going forward. this wave of popularity, while overdue, should be embraced.
You tell this coach Stanley, there's so many moving part to women's basketball, not just Caitlin Clark, she's not the only one doing great things. There's so many teams with some great players on it , the freshman of this year are play maker's
Is this the SAME Dawn Staley who orchestrated not ONE....but TWO...racism hoaxes which were both debunked? Not sure I want to take anything SHE takes seriously. Her resume means nothing to me, Her character isawful.
The folks really should of followed up with Cardoso on the NIL question. People believe she’s making millions but don’t know that she doesn’t get nil because of how she got here from Brazil. Over seas players like her and Aliyah edwards don’t qualify unless there home. Edwards could only make money from adidas if she was in Canada
Agree. It would’ve been good if they explained that foreign college students aren’t allowed to earn US-based income under the terms of their student visas.
@@wanchaichump5932exactly it would of been very informative and the money talk would definitely lift the eyebrows of the channel. I think it’s crazy but I’m glad she can feed her family now
I hope that WNBA and women's college basketball will take off to the farthest level of financial rewards to all our women. I'm a man wanting this excitement brought by these women and creating drama, fights, and rivalry which makes the game exciting. Juju Watkins and Paige Buechler will be the next superstars. European women are also very good.
Talk about put your fans on your back!!! Caitlin asked her Iowa fans to raise the level of cheers in response to a great Iowa play. It takes courage, honor, and character to ask your fans to increase their level of cheer, and her fans honored with a louder cheer, Caitlin had the courage to ask, and fans accepted her character as part of the moment, a part of them! This Caitlin Clark effect is the relationship between the star athletes and the women basketball fans. Billie Jean King fought the penises of the tennis association for women professional rights and won. Tiger Woods had a great run with the golf fans. Manic Johnson and Larry Bird made the NBA a viable professional league which “Be like Mike” possible. I think we will soon see “Be like Caitlin” everywhere. I think young parents of girls and boys have a pure competitor role model in Caitlin Clark. Parent have focus on Caitlin and are pointing out that anything is possible if their kids “Be like Caitlin”. She plays the game with honor, courage, and character. Where are the role models? On the national scene we have liars. Congressmen who are spreading Russian propaganda and not honoring international sovereignty and favoring Putin reforming the old Soviet Union into a fascist Russian state!
@@poloregalonly since 2017. No one's trying to take away anything from the gamecocks. But, Clark was initially criticized for pumping up the crowd and her passionate play. When she started doing it 4 years ago, I noticed that a lot of other girls started getting confidence. Take Flau'jae Johnson, for example. This year she was playing to the audience and pointing out in the crowd, getting them pumped up. I loved every minute of that as well. For a long time, women were told that this type of behavior is inappropriate. And now doors have been opened. All the teams are not going to look back!
Ms Clark will breath some new life into a dead 💀 league. She is definitely 💯 % the biggest and most talented player in the draft this year. A record setting player for sure 😊
But she can still get sponsorships, correct? I don't think that necessarily counts. Hopefully she can get some sponsors, even in her native country now that she's in the WNBA
Raven didn't stop anyone. Clark hit 10 of 28 because she just missed some of her shots. She still scored 30. If Caitlin maybe scored like 10 points, then you'd have an argument.
@@the_freedom_runnerRaven missed with her mind, wore her down physically and kept her from controlling the pace of the game. If you notice Clark kept setting plays and calling for the ball especially mid to late 4th quarter Raven contributed greatly to CC 10 of 28.
In any team sport, no individual can win or lose a game. In basketball it is a group of five people plus a support group of bench and coaches, winning or losing it. But skill wise, an individual may rise above the rest, though that still is not a guarantee to win.
30 points isn't considered choking, and that's 30 points better on her worst day than you'd ever do on your best day in a stage like that. Continue drinking your Dr. Pepper and eating those chicken nuggets, you keyboard expert.
@@misss6596 Sure. It is because she is white. It has nothing to do with her Logo 3's. Or her breaking 45 records. It is only because she is white. That is why America loves Simone Biles so much, because she is white. Oh wait.
It's too bad that the mainstream media has been lying about Clark's points record. She is not the record holder. A black woman in 1975 to 1979 has a record of 4016. In college. Her name is Pearl Moore.
Dawn needs to start talking about her own players and Raven who successfully defended caitlin Clark so they may also get some endorsement deals. Leave Caitlin Clark alone. She already got many endorsements and your players beat her. I never heard Caitlin Clark coaches promoting South Carolina players. Lifting your own players wouldn't make you racist. Ignore pressure from the media. South Carolina has many talents who can break records if they decide to be selfish. Caitlin is always shooting the ball by herself
Right. That’s why Caitlin is also #3 all time in assists, because she always shoots the ball.🙄 Fortunately Dawn Staley, like Kim Mulkey, is able to see the big picture and realizes that superstars bring in the fans and drive popularity, and that Caitlin is a superstar, and this is good for Staley’s sport.
CC is NOT always the big picture!!! Dawn has spoken highly of her!! Iowa's coach didn't say a thing about any SC player, and she hasn't been forced too. Every interview they ask Dawn about CC!!
Don't watch then. The WNBA does not need you bandwagon Great White Hopers anyways. If you think she was exposed in the title game by Raven Johnson in the title game wait till the more skilled defenders in the WNBA get a crack at her. You might as well had said "I'm rooting for CC because she's a White girl who happens to be a greater than average basketball player".
Someone needs to ask Catlin how she feels about letting transgender play aginst her. I would love to see her response if she could handle the competition. Or are we going to continue to protect her????? Inquiring minds want to know
@JosephThomas-xb9wo Another bandwagon Great White Hoper who doesn't understand math. CC scored 30 points on 10 for 28 shooting. That's not an efficient FG %,buddy. And here's the reality check: Caitlin Clark was guarded by Bree Hall in the first quarter when she scored 18 points. After Raven Johnson started guarding Clark in the 2nd quarter Clark only scored 12 points(5 came from freethrows so in actuality she only scored 7 points!) on 3 for 11 shooting. That's a 27% FG % if you know math. Clark was also stripped 4 times by Raven.
@@Robert-uc5pb you keep living in your fantasy world 🌎 believing caitlins not a good player , Connecticut played her good defensively. But she still gets her points .she's also a great assists dish player .if you truly b lieve shes going to be a bust in the NBA you need to read the basketball books for dummies. Who you going to believe me or your lying eyes 👀
FOH. No one's jealous of Clark. Black women in the WNBA outnumber White players by 4 to 1. We make up 70% of the damn league. We're just tired of the accomplishment of our Lady Gamecocks being placed on the back burner for a two time loser. To hell with her individual accomplishments. She earned those but this is not her time and we got the right to speak up about it whether you folks like it or not.
Why do ALL conversations have to be around Caitlin? Every time a black person accomplishes something, the media ALWAYS finds away to bring it back to somebody white😡
Mammy and Dawn don’t go in the same sentence. Dawn doesn’t mind answering the questions there’s a mutual respect and Dawn truly knows her worth and who she is
