Barb and I took a short getaway to catch our breath after a pretty busy summer.
We stayed in a nice cabin along Old Hill City Road between Keystone and Hill City.
The owner of the cabin, Randy, had chickens. We became friends... or they became dependents maybe.
We toured the Big Thunder Gold Mine. Learned to pan for gold.
We went through Bear Country. WOW! If you go to the Black Hills, put that place on your bucket list!

I took the family on a road trip several years back to visit mount Rushmore. We had a blast, just breathtaking for a South Texas family where it flat land. Looks like you all had a great trip.

Nice Rhode Island Reds. I'm always amazed with the Mountain sheep. Did you know Grizzly bears leave them alone. My Mother came from the Crookston area in MW MN. She said that they had Timber wolves. Thank you Gary.

Nice trip Gary, I really like the black bear. Generally not aggressive but not shy either. I grew up in an area with tons of them. Tunnels and caves are so cool to explore. Thanks for sharing!

We are just getting into it Matt. Barb recently bought me a gold panning kit. We brought it along but there are a whole lot of regulations out here. If you “F” up, you could most likely be facing a felony.

Want to see bears? Come on up here. Seeing about three a day right now. Really moving trying to fatten up for winter. Saw a big brown one yesterday. I shot a blonde one years ago. Some of those black bears come almost white up here.

We actually had a neighbor find a dead black bear several years ago. I have only seen one in the wild here and saw it on the edge of our farm. Barb has seen bear tracks on a couple occasions. It made the news around here when the sheriffs department had to chase one out of town on 4 wheelers. Thanks Chad

Looks like you had fun. I watched on my phone, so it was hard to see, but that first bear that walked by your car didn't look too healthy. Was that a bear preserve? Thanks for sharing. It was a fun watch!

Thanks Rick. That was Bear Country just south and outside of Rapid City. It is a drive through park. You get to see elk, deer, reign deer, bison, timber wolves, big horn sheep, mountain goats, bobcats, cougars, and yes of course, bears. Tons and tons of bears. It was a blast. Way back in the day Bryce, my grandfather said we had them here in Iowa. His Dad had shot and killed some when he was a very little boy. We also had Jack rabbits.
