The way they portrayed the Butt Out crew is so accurate. I think we can all agree that when we were kids, we dreaded these assemblies with all these cheesy annoying preaching speakers.

On the "Gnomes" episode in season 2 the town used children in a campaign to keep Starbucks from coming to town, and at the end of that episode, had regrets about it and admitted that they were as low and despicable as Rob Reiner.

This episode first aired three weeks after Casa Bonita. Eric was barely out of juvenile hall for making Butters go missing when his mom grounded him for three weeks for smoking.

It always confuses me, that people don't like this episode, because they think it's pro-smoking? Uhmm, no? Did we watch the same episode? It's not pro-smoking, but anti virtue signalling and using fear tactics to get your way. The whole smoking thing is just s place holder. They could have gone after junk food, alcohol or gambling or literally anything else. It's not about saying snoking needs to be protected, it's saying not to let others use fear tactics to dictate what you are allowed to enjoy and what not, and i for one absolutely adore it for it.

Because in the end it was not Rob Reiner and the activists bringing down smoking. It was science combined with good jura and judement by courts prooving the tobacco companies indeed knew their products are deadly and criminally misinforming the public - forcing the parliaments to implement bans on smoking over time.

im with ya about smoking, i never could stand the smell, and it stays forever too, the smell, plus it would always make me cough just being around the second hand smoke, , so no, i never saw the appeal, it made everything stink, the smoke stains everything due to the nicotine and tar etc. in it. and saw how it effected people their voice got gross, their body aged faster with major health issues . but yes, the anti smoking groups when they try to act all ''cool'' if it wasn't for the fact cigs genuinely are nasty, i would have smoked out of spite to annoy the ''smoking isnt cool groups''
