Here's a video I've been saving for over 5 years, Shot one morning during my 2018/2019 school holiday adventures. I clearly remember roaming around the suburb of Redfern all morning in desperate search of trucks. Along my way stumbling across many people affected by substance abuse and thinking nothing of it continuing on looking for garbage trucks. After walking around for a good 45mins I saw this Hino / Garwood pop up and turn into a big complex to service the many winch bins presented at a Sky Rise. Later that day when returning home I remember taking a look at google maps to see where i had been that day to find out id been at Redfern Housing Commissions, Probably not the safest place for a 15 year old to be wondering around back streets looking for garbage trucks :P Especially after giving Redfern Housing Commissions a google search i quickly realised why i kept getting asked for change or a spare smoke and got weird looks from passers by while filming... The fun of being young and unknowing...
Abit of Info About this truck;
In the previous contract between City of Sydney and South Sydney URM was contracted to service Garbage, Green Waste, Clean Up and Recycling services in Sydney City itself but only responsible for Green Waste and Recycling Collections in South Sydney while council continued to service Garbage and Clean Up Services for themselves only in South Sydney. Litter Bins in both Sydney City and South Sydney also being serviced by council.
Since Cleanaway took over the City of Sydney Contract in mid 2019 a new fleet of Merc / Buchers ( Main Collection Vehicles ) and Hino / Buchers ( Small Access ) where rolled out to take over the services URM was providing in both Sydney City and South Sydney. After 1 year of Cleanaway commencing it was in their contract for them to also take over South Sydney Garbage and Clean Up services leaving council with Just Litter bins in both Sydney City and South Sydney. Since Cleanaway took over South Sydney most off these Hino / Garwoods have been sold off ( Except for some which have been put onto litter bins and Event waste collections ). The truck 6061 featured in the video has since been acquired by URM and has been re painted and given some nice fresh signage and is now used to service URM's Commercial and Industrial Customers. I remember one weekend driving past one of the URM yards and getting a glimpse of it before being re painted white still with the 6061 fleet number visible. Funny coincidence how after 4 years I see this truck again working for a different company.
Big thanks to the friendly crew for being cool with me videoing them tipping some 1.5m winch bins given how few of them are around these days.
