2nd place actually do get a trophy. Bournemouth got one in 2022 And Sheffield United got one last year

The playoffs are pretty much a mini end of season tournament, so the EFL probably thought why not give the winners a trophy. As a Southampton fan I'd actually prefer an automatic spot with no trophy. Winning the playoff final was crazy but it was a gamble I'd rather not do.

They were going to keep him, the owners did a interview before the game and they said that no matter the result in the playoff final and no matter what league we are in, he would be manager next season.
