It was great running a city marathon again! Last weekend, I ran the Southampton Marathon as part of my training for the South Downs Way 100 Ultramarathon. This was a long run so I took it easy and enjoyed the route.
Great vid James (and great running). "39k in, really enjoyed this" - probably not something people often think during a marathon! Looks like a fun training run for the 100 miler 👍
Well done James. I did Southampton marathon last year and the hills and the Itchen Bridge absolutely killed me off! Hardest marathon I’ve done. Really well done.
🎊BRAVO James!!!🎉👏🏻👏🏻 Running a marathon just for fun, just for training!! Ohhhhh I am looking forward to getting to that level myself!!!!! One day, one day!!!! Was your heart pounding a little nevertheless?? Your easy pace is way faster than my flat-out-giving-it-my-all pace 😂😂 But that's only inspiration, as fortunately I'm not stupid enough to compare myself with others, only with my own steady progress!!!! I laughed at you wanting to stop at BurgerKing, for me it was for a giant cappuccino or venti latte!!! 😂
Thanks Bev! Yeah I was a great day. Always a bit of pre-race nerves and it was super busy at the start trying to get ready. Pace is all relative 🙂 I train with people at the club who run marathons at a pace I can barely sustain for 400 metres 😅 Definitely hard to avoid comparisons though! Haha definitely tempting having a burger king on the biggest/longest hill of the course! Not sure I could handle a coffee mid run 😂
Congrats! Even if you took the race "easy" it's always rewarding to get a medal at the end of a long run! Best of luck for the rest of your ultra training
