Drove up to the mountains for a 1 night camping and fishing trip. Caught 5 fish and lost a handful of others within about 1 hour of fishing, not too shabby! It's awesome that we have wild trout this close to San Diego. That area of the San Bernardino Mountains gets extremely crowded at times but with a little effort and some luck, we made it work and had a fun weekend "away" from it all.
This video should help teach you how and where to catch Wild Trout in California. Pay attention! 😂

Well done video. I am very familiar with that stretch of water. It looks quite right now after the storms and has a lot of unfishable areas unfortunately. However, I wanted to comment because several folks are erroneously stating you did not catch brown trout. The coloration is subtle but it is obvious from your video that you definitely did catch wild small brown trout back there. Congrats!

Yeah some folks need to learn their trout patterns lol. But that’s ok I don’t hate. I had to learn too. Sorry to hear there is a bunch of unfishable parts right now… sounds like a challenge!!! 😂. Thanks for watching and thanks for your kind words. Cheers!

I remember the creek that ran along the cabins had a ton of fish in the early’80’s . Most were near the road.

I did. Always do. Might be hard to notice but I keep the glove soaking wet if I use it. Thanks for watching!

That is the North Fork of the Santa Ana and you should upstream across the road about 1.5 miles, that is where it gets really good
@myotherlinefishing

I wanted to fish that entire stretch but my wife was there so I didn’t subject her to much of my fishing addiction that trip 😂. Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll head straight there next time. 🤙🏼

Are you camping in a free BLM area? Your spot doesn't have table or for ring like most paid sites would? If so where are you camping?
@myotherlinefishing
@myotherlinefishing 26 дней назад
Yea on BLM land. It’s all over the place across the highway (south) from the river. A quick Google search will show you the area. East of Jenks Lake.

@myotherlinefishing

The small ones are brown trout. The large are stocked rainbows. It’s hard to tell on video but the spots on most of the small fish give it away. There are wild rainbows, browns and even brook trout in the Santa Ana River. Could be hybrids here and there too. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Thanks for watching!
@hk2read
@hk2read 8 месяцев назад
Negative on that. Those were all native rainbows with the exception of thr rainbow stocker. Brown trout in that area are very distinct; yellowish brown even tone in the entire body with absence of vertical bars. They have distinct black, pink and reddish soots on a yellow/brown backdrop. Good job sir on fishing…i fish that area since the 80s and it is fished hard.

Across the Highway up a random dirt rd just west of where the river crosses the road. BLM land. Head to freecampsites.net . It’s marked on there.
