Hey you! You got a sweet tooth? I got just the dessert for you!!! My Southern Chess Squares will definitely hit the spot!!! Very easy to make and it’ll make your belly smile!!!😁😁😁
Oh this looks so good! Thanks for sharing the recipe and technique, now I’m totally craving chess squares! I always knew these as gooey butter cake, so it’s always interesting to see how slight variations and different traditions for similar desserts bring unique names.
I have been making this recipe for over 60 years. It is a gooey butter cake that originated in St Louis, Missouri in the 1930's also known as a Neiman Marcus Cake. The only difference is the addition of one tablespoon of vanilla extract in the cream cheese mixture. It is a favorite anywhere you go.
Saw you segment on the news, love your family! Can’t wait to try the chess squares! My great-grandmother’s kitchen was filled with these and pound cakes!
I make your recipes when I’m making chess bars. I’ve tried others on here and they are no where as good as yours or east to make. You’re the best girl. Thank you
One of our family favorites. Every time I see my Son-in-law's Brother, the first words out of his mouth is Chess Squares. He wants them any time of the year. Yours look great. New sub.
Therefore if any man be in Christ he is a new creature! Old things have passed away and all things have become new!!! One of my favorite scriptures and thank you 🙏🏾
I ate these at a Party last night, and they were so delicious, so I looked it up, and yours looks like the one at the Party, I just Subscribed, Merry Christmas 🎄 From Louisville Kentucky
Awesome! Thank you for your support! Merry Christmas to you as well and have a Happy and blessed New Year! Also, when you make them don’t forget to let me know how they turned out! 🥰
Do you cool them in the fridge after baking or sit them out for a couple of hours? & how long is your cooling process? I’m afraid to cut into them too early
I eat mine cold! I love them in the fridge but people eat the warm as well just let set for about 30mins then cut into them. I let mine cool for a few minutes then place them in the fridge for an hour bed I cut into them
My cousin makes these well a form of em I guess it's just the top part there is no cake at all the ones with cake are a little to thick for my liking but I might try these for Thanksgiving I can't find a recipe for my cousins and she will not tell anybody
