I have a bag of apples that I need to use fast. God must have led me to you. I should have had Faith in Him that he would show me the way. I will fry my apples & have them over waffels! Halleluia Jesus.🙏👍

Thank you for your kindness, Sister in Christ. Fat can be left off, for those who prefer, & I use apple juice concentrate for sweetness. If I have cider or "natural" (unfiltered) apple juice, that works, then you reduce them for more sweetness (reduce by boiling, till it's 1/2 of what you started with. ..doesn't take long. Then add sliced apples, & slowly simmer. We like a few raisins in it, too. At the last I thicken with a little cornstarch (add it to small amt. of cold water first). We use it on pancakes & waffles instead of syrup. Becky, you know you're greatly loved.

This is very much how my father made them, except: 1. He used honey instead of sugar. 2. About a day before, he'd cut up the apples, add the honey, cinnamon, and ginger [which you don't use], chopped walnuts or pecans (or occasionally almonds), raisens or dried cherries or dried cranberries, and brandy, which he'd put in a bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and leave in the refrigerator overnight. Then, the next day, he'd cook them about the same way you did. Sometimes he'd mix it with breadcrumbs or wheat germ or cous-cous and stuff it inside a capon and roast it in the oven. After moving the bird to the platter, he'd put the roasting pan on the stovetop and wait until the juices were boiling and smoking, then pour about half a bottle of wine over, and when it got back to a boil would sprinkle cornstarch over while whisking to make gravy. Other times,we'd have it for breakfast with sausages and cheese grits. Basically, my father was a hillbilly who had gotten a college scholarship and gone to the big city and acquired a veneer of sophistication, but didn't forget where he came from.

These are delicious in fried apple pies too. I had some given to me made from plain sandwich bread made by rolling bread out as thin as possible. You don't even have to remove crust. Add a tablespoon or two of cooked apples to one side of rolled bread slice, fold in half, crimp with fork and fry in butter or oil until brown. I've also had these fried pies with crushed/drained pineapple. Enjoy! Have a blessed day, Becky and family! XOXOX

My mother-in-law made these with cinnamon red hearts. She cooked them after lunch in sugar and butter just till they were tender and then stirred in the red hearts. She covered the pan, turned off the heat and let them sit all afternoon. She reheated them to serve, giving them a good, careful stir but not breaking the apples. They were a beautiful pink color with a different kind of cinnamon flavor.

Love your videos! Re this one, my beloved great-grandmother was a great country cook originally from Arkansas and her father grew apples. Autumn was not really autumn to me until I smelled the aroma of fried apples wafting from her kitchen. She loved Jonathan apples with their tart flavor which mixed beautifully with plain white castor sugar; she also did NOT peel the apples, therefore creating a particular double-textured, double-flavored (a sweet/tart) dish. The more sugar, almost made them candied apples. Though cinnamon w apples is a classic taste, she also used no cinnamon in these. You tasted just the apples and the butter. Fantastic. Thanks, Becky, for your amazing videos...

Having these for Thanksgiving this year to commemorate the happiest Thanksgiving I ever had growing up. Dirt poor, 4 orphaned kids (dad killed in an auto accident), my mom newly remarried to who would become my much beloved adoptive Dad and us living in another state in what seemed like a foreign land, we had pinto beans (did we have any ham?), fried apples and for dessert hckory nut and maraschino cherry cake. We played Michigan Rummy and in the evening came a knock on the door, a man returning our wayward dachsund, Pip, who had run away 10 days before and was lost to us. I loved Thanksgivings with my late husband, but none come close to this one. Wishing you a glorious Thanksgiving for this difficult year for you.

They bring out the flavor of the apples. We have eaten them with pork chops, ham and even with Turkey. We also like them with pancakes or waffles . I have even substituted them for strawberries in short cakes, also over ice cream. Any way you want to use them they are Very good.

I love your pot story. I have a small kitchen in my apartment, and though I have a large pantry with tall shelves, there is only so much room to store pots and pans as well as a few small countertop appliances.

Y'all made me smile! These are like the fried apples they have at church fellowship dinners - and I always take a big bowl. With ice cream!

Thanks Becky! The apples look so good. I love your cookbook. I received it as a Christmas gift. The verses you added really makes it extra special. "Seek the Kingdom of God above all else and live righteously and he will give you everything you need" Matthew 6:33

My husband loves this as a dessert. I have always bought them pre-made in the grocery store, however, they are very expensive. I am definitely going to try this recipe.

I got to say Thankyou mam. I tried making these after my wife passed , in september, and my kids now have a favorite topping sometimes breakfast and sometimes desert. I found it funny when you were talking about having big pots. My Grandma had a summer kitchen and that's where she did her canning. I got the house now and rebuilt the summer kitchen and all her big pots are still hanging out there. Every home needs to have a summer kitchen with a wood oven. Thankyou and God bless.

Not only is this recipe sounding and looking sweet and delicious but the bowls are also very cute. I have 4 of them. I got them for putting Popcorn in, haven’t used them for that one time! I wish I’d have gotten more now. They are great cereal bowls. Dollar Tree, here I come!

I use brown sugar instead of white. Also, a little bit of corn starch makes it like pie filling. Love ya'lls videos!

We had these at breakfast and supper. We had them as side dish and as dessert plain or with cream, whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Especially good with pork.
