Travist Rushing why does he have to be from SU. All he said said was neither band will blow each other out. How did JSU smash them? If you are going basically off how loud JSU was then you need go back to high school with that thinking.... I was at the game..both bands were loud...JSU might have been louder because of extra numbers this year but SU arrangements of He Loves Me..and Can't Get Over..and Welcome to the Jungle were nice. JSU Oh Yea and Nice and Slow and Jupiter were nice on their end..to say JSU just smashed and had no chance just shows how bias you are..we know you are in love with JSU...but the guy only was saying both bands won't blow each other out...that's a true statement..no need to bash it
As a fellow BAND HEAD they all have their own thing. I'm glad new blood like TC has come to shake up the ranks between SU, JSU, TSU and ASU. Which has made the "JUKE" step up and perfect what their legacy has been forever. SU IS BRINGING IT !!!!!!
I listen with a neutral ear, I go off of arrangement, power, and ability to perform the selection( including song choice). I do not automatically crown southern but it seems like their on a level by themselves this year
I loved playing both of these bands when I was at TSU. JSU came with that funk. Let It Burn went hard in the paint. I would have to give the edge to JSU on this one. My wife, a PROUD SU grad, would kill me if she saw this.

+Tommy Lee Jr. There's no way in hell you guys lost this battle. First J-STATE has all those trumpets, and I can't hear them. Second their BOOK is ELEMENTARY. If you give me 3 days I can run through there WHOLE BOOK. SU BOOK might take me 6 months. THIRD that JILL SCOTT and GUNS and ROSES are better than any song J-State played. Both bands sound Great so you have to dig deeper in there RESUME. TRUMPETS and DIFFICULTY IN ARRANGEMENTS are why J-STATE always GONNA BE #2.
trust me, they are HBCU'S so I respect them to the Utmost! Nothing bad to say, just HBCU trash talk FAM. But just a quick correction.....JSU and SU are also known Nationally to. I'm from Gary IN, and I marched at JSU.....Indiana is in the MIDWEST. So the HBCU 'S are WELL KNOWN!
both bands had power, but southern's song selection and arrangements were better. southern also plays more of a unit than jackson state in my opinion. they're sound is more focused and intense

its not the bands fault...seats across from SU on the 50 are reserved for SU alumni and they cost a lot of money...money school does not want to lose..so the away band sits in the corner...gotta take that up with school President not the band lol
I have also noticed that in HBCU they use more baritone and Mellophone than trumpet in loudness. that's why the bands may sound louder than other bands, maybe.

Daniel Owens yes blending is key and that's why college bands sound so much better than high school...core and show style. also military style bands like texas AM.
+michael wright Thank you! SU fans and JSU fans are very loyal and prideful. I know family and friends that went to both schools, and they said it was the best decision of their lives. Even though I chose to go to JSU I can't choose between these two, but I can enjoy good music all night long

Southern is playing SONGS! J State is playing instrumentals, beats and whole notes for the most part. And when they actually play a song, it has the most high school level, watered down arrangement, played at one volume. To me, based on musicianship, articulation, arrangement, dynamics, etc., Southern won this easily. I didn't care for the tempo on The Hills, though; that was awful.

Boy you crazy, SU first 2 Songs won that Battle from jump. This was NO CONTEST. The DEGREE OF DIFFICULT IN THERE ARRANGEMENTS. Is what set them apart. My opinion PRAIRIE VIEW was SU BATTLE OF 2015. ARRANGEMENTS, SONG SELECTION and SOUND. P.V. didn't WIN the BATTLE but GREAT JOB. JSU FANS ARE CRAZY. What happened to the run in LET IT BURN. Decided to leave that out the song. LOl SU WINS EASY.
Why Jackson change their original sound up?.. it sounds like their trying to out JUKEBOX, THE JUKEBOX or something.. it's like their lose or something.. IDK.. its just sad..

If you look over the course of maybe 20 years the JUKEBOX has kept the same traditional full "In your face" style, and Jstate has changed from their traditional crowd pleasing Sonic Boom, to Jackson SOUTHERN University. They do sound good though. The JUKEBOX has that style that they have patented over the course of time, thus the name THE HUMAN JUKEBOX.
+brickhouse96 that's real. You have to know the history. SU has always been SU. In the last 7-10 years JSU sounds like southern on SOME occasions. But every now and then they sound other... Like themselves.
I don't think y'all understand anything, as time has passed by, the style of hbcu bands has definently changed, and su has definitely made some big changes too to their sound, they're more dark this year just like JSU, they're more equal tbh, I love both bands.

its a technical piece, flight of the bumble bee if you will. its like if you here Notre Dame, Harvard playing "hotline bling" you be like Oh snap. See people expect HBCU's to play R&B, HipHop, Contemporary but not POP, Rock or Country!! Check out A&T playing with UNC
jsu got the upper hand su crowd there tubas with too many notes and it sounds like they struggle at times jsu needs work on there trumpets as of that the boom really put in work
Both sound good...give me SU's weeknd and the first song jsu played...jsu should cut how long they sing on this could be us but it was still none the less on point!!! I've never been a fan of SU's trumpets but they sound good this year nice sound coming from those guys, I like jsu's trumpet section better than last years but Ive still seen better days from those guys...nobody is on the same level as jsu's trombones though I mean nobody!!!!

Ya'll can't say shit about Jackson state!!! Thet might be in the corner ,but we gone turn this way and let ya'll know we still one band one sound.
