Southport pier and beach front
Southport planned to build a build a pier as early as the 1840s but work began in 1859. The iconic structure was designed by James Brunlees, the 3600 foot pier was opened in 1860. The Pier was closed for safety reasons by the Council after extreme weather in December 2022 accelerated the current issues in the Pier decking. The day I filmed there were workmen working on the Pier structure. Hopefully soon the we will be able to walk along the pier again. The Pier pavilion was featured in the first series of the television program Time featuring Sean Bean. The old tea room has hosted stars such as Charlie Chaplain and during the 1920s steamliners used to visit.
