Southwest Airlines passenger Marty Martinez shares his experience aboard flight 1380 where passengers pulled a woman back into the plane after she was sucked into a hole left by a shattered window.
RESPECT to Mrs. Shuts (Pilot) for landing the plane as safe as she can and saving the remainder of the passengers, and Mr. Needum (Firefighter), who risked his life trying to save Mrs. Riordan from this unfortunate event. My heart and condolences goes out to Mrs. Riordan's family and friends.
I cannot imagine the thought of thinking I'm going to die. My first thought would be to call my husband and kids to be able to say how much I love them. People being ridiculous saying he reached for Wi-Fi! Yes! You think of your family and being able to say one last thing to them. What is wrong with some of these people in the comment section?
I am scared, honestly I'm crying right now. I can't imagine how that lady looks alike when the window blow away, I'm so sorry for her and her family. Rest in peace beautiful lady.
Alchemica Blackwood maybe there wasn't a camera ma on the ground you douche. Silly conspiracy theorist. How dumb can you be? I bet you voted for trump. Guaranteed
This isn't the first time something like this has happened on a southwest airlines flight. Back in August of 2016 a southwest Boeing 737-700 on a flight from New Orleans to Orlando had sharpnel fly from the engine and left a 5 by 16 inch hole just above the wing. That flight safely landed in Pensicola.
I am a passenger on Southwest Airlines Flight 1380. We are very lucky! Our female captain Tammie Jo Shults, she is awesome! she is our angel! She is a really hero! She saved the lives of hundreds of our passengers! Pay tribute to her! Thanks God for keeping us alive! Thanks for superb technology, brave and calm fearlessly pilot! 🙏🙏🙏
I’m 15 and the same thing happened on my way to Huston except a window didn’t break i was supposed to arrive at 4 pm but arrived at 2 am i really don’t recommend south west airline they moved us to a new plane afterwards that had no lights it was the scariest night of my life and they still had the nerve to email us a voucher of 100$ my life isn’t worth that it’s worth a law suit
Condolences to the family of the woman who lost her life. Kudos to the flight crew for guiding the plane down ... as for this guy, and many others in the plane, there’s a reason why flight attendants do the demo. Passengers also need to do their part and listen! These passengers did not have their oxygen masks on correctly.
"All I could think was "Oh shit! How can I monetize the tragic death of a human being". You stay classy Marty... And Don Lemon, just don't say anything when it comes to how "sorry" you are, and what a tragedy you think this is. Hearing your hollow sympathies make me angrier than not hearing anything from you in regard to the situation at all.
And while other passengers such as Peggy Phillips, Andrew Needum and Tim McGinty and others jumped into action to pull Jennifer Riordan back inside the plane and then tried to save her life by giving her CPR this guy admits he was seated within rows of Mrs. Riordan and bought wifi and did a livestream. 🤦🏼♀️ And the plane wasn’t going down. They had a rapid decompression and needed to get down to 10,000 feet.
Carolina Girl ...thanks for the info and thanks to the two heroes that sprung into action, but we need people like this opportunist to record the event otherwise south west gets away with supplying crap planes and things don’t change because video loving public doesn’t see what happened.
Daisy Cocoa I added the name of a nurse who assisted in the rescue efforts of Mrs. Riordan. I understand your point but in todays day and age there is enough evidence and there was no way to hide the damage done to the planes engine. And the ATC recordings are recorded by those who do it as a hobby and a career just to catch incidents or even funny incidents. The following link will take you to a channel where the only content is ATC recordings. And this link is for SW 1380. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cnSizWZVyD4.html
mitos meios And sometimes it better to speak with a mentality that isn’t engrained in social media and gaining publicity. And to speak from having a long career as a FA and from experience of emergency situations myself. And I understand the physical logistics of the confined space and risk to those who chose to help. I shudder to think what each and every person was going through. But in my opinion I find it beyond the pale for this man to go on tv and speak of how close he was to the victim while he was doing a live stream while many of his fellow passengers were frantically trying to save this woman’s life. But to each their own. That is why they say you never know how you will react in an emergency or who will step up to the plate to be the hero. A family lost their mother, wife and daughter. I understand this is the world we live in and the survivors have every reason to be relieved. But in respect for this woman’s family I just consider this guy speaking as out of his ass.......but as I said to each their own. Have a great day.
people like you suck. Judging people for their actions in a life and death situation, trying to contact friends and family for seemingly the last time. But hey, let's pass judgement!
DANMMM? MANN. SATULE TO THE WOMEN THAT SAVE LIVES, SHE'S A HERO SATULE TO HER ,FREE VACATION PAID THE MINUTE I LAND IT,I WOULD THANX GOD FIRST AND KISS THE GROUND I GOT A SECOND CHANCE TO Make IT RIGHT, TELL EVERYONE AND EVERYBODY I AM SORRY, LIFE IS SO SO precious. GOOSEBUMPS. CASHMERE.
This is why I don’t fly unless I absolutely have to. I don’t fear flying, but I’m terrified of shitty airplane maintenance and piss poor oversight. This is pretty much my worst nightmare. Condolences to the family of the woman who died. To the rest of you joking about trying to contact loved ones, you’re assholes. Just think how you would roar with laughter if you’d been in his place. Maybe someday with any luck, you will be.
This is the what nightmare every hope never happens to them. Praying for the lady who was tragically killed from this and also praying for the survivors.
When you fly on a plane, the ticket on the back says 'you're flying at your own risk' or something similar. Why would Southwest get sued? As a passenger, you are assuming the risk that the plane might crash.
Max Gaston good thing that you have lost faith in humanity for they’re not saviors, only Jesus is. Place your faith in Him and its sacrifice on the Cross and He will give you a crown of life that nobody can’t take it away from you.
Why do focus on the one person who is negative in your point of view. Why don't you focus on the pilot? Your comment makes no sense. What you do is filter what you want to see and that is the negative in everything. In other words you attract the negative when there is positive around you as well. Besides watching the media and the news is primarily negative to get more ratings, so this will convince you humanity is at a loss, when it's always been good and bad since the history of time.
Max Gaston you do know someone placed themselves infront of the window so the pressure wouldn't build up and possibly cave the plane inside out and leaving almost no survivors. I'm not sure what your comment was a response to but whatever helps you sleep at night.
I think what he meant was that he thought this could've been the last day of his life, so he wanted to tell his friends, family and his love ones goodbye if that were the case. Why is it wrong to talk about A life threatening experience that these people will now live with forever? This is healthy and perfectly normal, I mean this in the nicest way possible, but maybe you might want to seek some help yourself if this is a problem to you.
ZGaming Sure, justify your own addiction anyway you like. Addiction is no laughing matter and requires professional psychological attention. The NEED for people to care about your every thought is narcissistic at the least and that only proves your instability. You are addicted to Facebook, the sooner you admit it to yourself, the less defensive your comments on the related issue will become.
"Sure, justify your own addiction anyway you like" Lets set one thing strait I am not addicted to social media, nor do I use facebook, you don't know me, so you shouldn't jump to conclusions here. What gave you the impression he was addictive? Do you not realize the situation he was in? He was worried he wouldn't make it so he was informing those close to him. "Addiction is no laughing matter and requires professional psychological attention." What gave you the impression he was addictive? Do you not realize the situation he was in? He was worried he wouldn't make it so he was informing those close to him. Addiction is bad, but that's not what I spoke about, I only said it was healthy to vent traumatic experiences instead of bottling them in. "The NEED for people to care about your every thought is narcissistic at the least and that only proves your instability." The need to say goodbye to your loved ones when you are possibly on the verge of dying is awful? He was getting his possible last message to his loved ones, he has people who care for him, people who would be devastated about his death. This wasn't addiction to begin with, I just don't seem to understand why you think it's wrong to inform the ones you love that you are about to die. You completely took everything he's done out of context.
deka Mentally stable people don't jump to conclusions on A person they never met, notice how you've completely ignored every other point I made? Still waiting for you to show me what compelled you to believe this man was addicted to social media. You attempt to tell me that speaking about tragic events in a persons life, venting, rather than bottling up is bad. That is just plain false, the opposite is the case. I don't think you have any experience with mental illnesses to try and lecture anyone else on them.
Lol, you still show nothing, you are at this point just trolling. I will stop replying, I don't want to speak with a troll who throws out belittling remarks, which A mentally stable person wouldn't do.
This guy takes flights all the time, and doesn't clue in that the first response from any pilot when a plane decompresses is to get it down into heavier air, at least to 10,000 so everyone can breath. Those masks don't have a lot of supply. The professionalism of this pilot should be rewarded.
Richard King and an astronomically unlikely way to die. If your worried about dying, you should never drive. Stupid idiots driving like assholes try to kill me almost every day. just last week some . dude in a pickup driving carelessly , hit an suv. It rolled. I saw victims that were ejected layed out on the grass as ems worked on them. 4 were kids. 40,000 die on americas roads per year. While tragic, that was the first death of a US airline passenger in 9 years. Nearly half a million died on the road in that period
I get wanting to say goodbyes, but come on dude. If my plane was going down, my first reaction wouldn’t be got to get my computer out and post something.
@Andy - everybody responds to crisis differently. Maybe to reduce anxiety, immediately trying to contact a family member, but unsure, and then panicking and then going on facebook because of more panic is definitely possible in this age of media use.
This isn't a plane crash. It was an emergency in the air that occurred but wasn't anything like an actual fatal crash. People who are in a true crash aren't thinking clear enough to use wi-fi before it happens. And don't quote 9/11. That was a hijacking, these people thought the plane was gonna land and they'd be safe.
"All I was thinking about was how I might score a national news interview and get attention, whoops I mean all I could think about was how I could contact my loved ones" lol.Dammit! Why did I watch this giving Marty the attention he so badly needs. Thoughts go to family and friends of Jennifer Riordan, the crew, and the two passengers that tried to save Jennifer.
Call me "crazy" but I do have a couple questions.....1) Why are the oxygen masks over their mouths and not their noses? and 2) WHERE IS ALL THE BLOOD???!?!?!? I certainly read comments of "blood everywhere" when this first happened. And that would be a natural assumption. You mean to tell me that someone got snatched out of her seat at 32,000 ft, going 500+mph and there's nary a drop of blood?? Cause of death was blunt force trauma, btw. Really? That through all the commotion and rescue efforts, what remains is a magazine and airplane safety pamphlet neatly place upon the seat? Nope. Something's not right about that.
All these losers calling this survivor names but are still watching and listening to what he has to say. How was documenting what was going on in the plane any worse than putting on a useless oxygen mask that does nothing but give you false sense of security? I thank him for his footage and pray for the family of the deceased.
As a pilot, the aircrew made all the right decisions. You do a rapid descent, to get to an altitude where there is sufficient oxygen for passengers to survive w/o masks on.. Aviate first, communicate next.
Are you dumb? Even if the person knows how to put on a mask he would be scared out of his mind to put it on correctly. Stop being a keyboard warrior and focus on your life
Hopefully the airport paid for all their hotels and cabs to their destination as I bet most of them will never fly again because of this horrendous incident.
It’s kind of funny seeing the comments berating a man for using the only source of communications he had during his perilous life threatening moment. Passing judgement like they are a saint and hero themselves ready to patch up a plane, fly it, save a woman from death, parachute down to ground, catch the plane. Whatever else they THINK they’d do but didn’t because they weren’t there. And then have gall to just send thoughts and prayers to the deceased. Lol
I'm seeing so many negative comments on this guy oh gosh the plane is going down and you're worried about recording on social media do you guys ever watch when there's these horrific incidents going on in the world like when people shoot up at a club or people are surrounded by a shootout with the police and some dangerous person you know how many people actually started texting and posting videos so they can show people what's going on so they can let their loved ones know what's going on this thing isn't new so to say oh he was just trying to seek attention like really like they could have all died on that plane is that what y'all really feel like he was trying to do
"All I could think about was buying more wifi to do some shitty recording", Dude you were sitting right across from the hole in the airplane and all you took video of was you using the oxygen mask the wrong way.
I remember flying on a jet plane from Las Vegas to LA on Spirit airlines We were 16000 ft. in the air and there was turbulence. It was a really big one it felt like the plane dropped and all the other passengers screamed which made us all panic myself included. I was in the middle seat and I was holding my Mom’s and sister’s hands really tight as we kept going through several turbulences My palms got really sweaty from the panic. The flight attendant was a bitch she told everyone to lower their voices. They may be used to it coz it’s their job but to passengers it’s scary it’s like going down a roller coaster and u feel your insides go up . Instead of being annoyed at us they should’ve handled it better and reassured us that it’s normal and everything going to be okay
Sooo after watching video after video after video... the passengers didn’t even know where they were going to to land... I guess no PA announcement was made to Passengers on where they were going to land.
Aimee Allen, that was my question, too! It was respectful to avoid asking for gory details, but my first thought was, OK...she must have somehow been the only person nearby who wasn't wearing a seatbelt. But then the fact that she was belted in was mentioned. Maybe her seat ripped out of the floor... Then again, if she AND her seat blew from one side of the plane to the other, I'm amazed everyone seated between her and that broken window wasn't killed as well.
22244crash Majority of people do this to say goodbye to loved ones. Obviously you know nothing about 9/11 and ALL those people that did exactly the same thing in order to say goodbye..
When I step into a plane and it starts the take off roll, I know there is a chance I could die the same way I know I could die when I step outside my house. This is the core philosophy of why I don't have a fear of flying. Something happens at 40k feet what the fuck can you do?...I guess
SKRIMEO stop giving yourself away. no one in america talks quite like that. why are you trolling us? and why do you want to know how I know? I don't know, I am guessing. maybe you can clear up why there are so many trolls online in the past two days.
This guy is super annoying! Why is he even being interviewed only! He was much to worried about posting on social media and gaining media attention ! Yes the worst could have possibly happened but it didn't. Interview the people who actually risked their lives trying to save another!
Geeze Don. why don't you ask the hard questions? did she lose her head? was there much blood? did she scream? was she watching CNN? is she a Republican? go for it Don.
I don't know - I think I would be talking to Jesus on where I'm possibly going to spend eternity - ordering Wi-Fi would be number 3,784 on my list of to do's....................Actually I KNOW I would be talking to Jesus at that point - you should come to the realization YOU NEED A SAVIOUR, if not then when will you ever....................
