Soviet M40. Concave star heat stamp = war time. Convex star heat stamp = post war. Green tea. It was my turn to bring a flask on a mountain bike ride with an old mate. I brought green tea. Wished we'd had pocket cameras back then for his response. It was similar to when I walked dog dirt across somebody's white shag pile carpet circa 1986.
Cheers Anvil , I reckon I will have to double check them , great info. , yes green tea is an acquired taste, as for walking dog muck into a shag pile 🤣🤣🤣
I'll just get my coat moments. The strap thing, I'd try low intensity flame candle not blow torch, as I'd reckon the glue will give before the monkey metal melts. @@steelhelmetstan7305
@@steelhelmetstan7305 Yes, the same here in the states with prices. I only have one Soviet helmet. I found it inside an old APC in 2012 while I was on deployment that had been ambushed in the mountains outside of Kabul during the Soviet invasion in the 80’s. The helmet was inside and had been battle damaged from a blast and has a little crack in it. That’s the only helmet I’ll never get rid of.
Very informative video. I’ve always found the ssh40m to be quite interesting due to the fact that it’s a Soviet helmet with German chinstraps. Thanks for sharing!
SSh...”.shha..” Oh Stan, even Webbing chin straps have variants “... Helmet shell eise....You can get a Ssh 39 that looks like a Ssh 40 but with a liner that looks more German or Italian, it has rivets in a different locations to the later SSh40... and you can also get Ssh 39 shells that have a liner adaptor so a SSh 40 liner could be fitted...these an be marked up for Training use only..... enjoy.
Cheers Andrew m8, yeh I can't remember how much I paid for them, but I reckon it was around the £50 mark. I saw ww2 examples that were a lot more and to be honest I was happy with the cold war variants , just the same...and less faking going on 🙂
Cheers yeh I do like the old warsaw pact kit, I think I've got most of the countries helmets now....not Albania though, I'm unsure if they had their own design 🙂
