Alongside the other reccomended fixes: I'm hoping that they bring back the ping warning on all ships. It would be pretty nice to know when you should be on a greater alert for homing torps. To give surface vessels a chance to strike a submarine, in my opinion, there should be a "deadzone" that the sub can't be at between the depths of 3 and 6 meters. In this current test, a submarine can sit at 5.9m with all the benefits of being on the surface, but then can retreat to 6.1m deep and be immune to all surface gunfire. This could be added in conjunction to decreasing the rate of descent/ascent on a sub so the window of fire is longer. Also, as a counter to the shotgun, maybe the torpedo launch arc would be widened like it was in the Halloween 2018 submarines when you came to the surface. This would prevent you from popping up, launching a spread at the ship, scoring four hits, then being safe, either because you've already submerged to a safe depth, or the target is becoming an artificial reef. It should probably be 1.5x or more wide than a twin-tube wide spread on surface ships, giving you a lower chance to score a one-salvo kill unless you want to risk ramming the ship, and means that turning in will result in a maximum of two hits the sub scores on you. Plus, the arming time for the torpedoes should be increased for both the safety of the target and the sub. Torpedoes have a pretty damn big warhead, and as with depth charges, nearby explosions should be extremely harmful to subs. This means that shotgunning risks the submarine even more, as it could take damage from its own torpedo strike. I realize this is my own opinion, it being based on what I've played myself, plus the input of others. TLDR: -Bring back Ping warning for surface vessels -Subs can't stay between 3-6m, removing the 5.9m exploit (perhaps they cant recharge/get the 2d torp launch until at 3m or less) -Subs take longer to submerge and ascend -Surface torpedo launch arcs for submarines widened on surface (if the 3m-6m dead zone is added, this would be overkill) -Torpedo arm time increase across the board for subs. -Subs take damage from nearby torpedo explosions, regardless of team. If a sub is below an enemy BB that gets torped, the sub should take damage in a certain radius.

Great list! As it is, Submarines are BRAINDEAD! You just get to freely exploit ALL TARGETS, and because of that STUPID 5.9m setup, they are immune to all Surface ships, that is BULLSHIT!!

or instead of having a deadzone, shells of different sizes can damage different depths. e.g. 3-6m all shells hit, 7m 12" hit, 8m 13"hit ... 13m 18" hit.

Of course. The most effective strategy in subs right now is to charge enemy ships and shoot them point blank. The best consumable for that task is a heal. So which nationality gets a heal I wonder? Oh the Soviets? I'm SOOOOOO surprised.

Same situation if a dd is the last one, just run away and hide. With sub' low speed, probably even a destroyer can do a better hidding

A REAL easy fix to this... Make the torpedoes have a arming distance, like aerial torpedoes. I.E. Torpedoes do not arm until they travel 1km+

I think they should bring back the Oxygen mechanic instead of the battery and it would make this a little more balanced by making the sub's fully surface more often giving an opportunity for other ships to fire on them if they are not smart, and it would easily discourage shotgunning I also think that the speed should be toned down a bit when underwater and increased when above water as well as detection should increase when going full speed underwater as the cavitation from the screws I realize its an arcade game but I think it can be worked in and still be fun

@@mmm7528I think both would make it too complex and they both have about the same effect: the sub needs to surface sometimes. I also thinks that the battery (or oxygen) shouldn't be able to replanish so deep under water. It basically means that a sub can stay underwater for the entire game

Battery and Oxygen are the same mechanic. I do like the idea of detectibility increasing with speed, I think that would make shotgunning more difficult if ships are able to see the submarine coming from 6km away while it's going at full speed.

@@Stormskip not really, battery is used only to attack and if you end up in a tricky situation you can just stay underwater and run away, but with oxygen you really need to be cautious because if you run out of it near enemy ships, you are in big truble

@@scatoletta6618 It's a resource that is drained through operating the ship and recharges when you are in a vulnerable state. They're the same mechanic. There's no reason that if WG wanted Battery to function the way Oxygen did that they couldn't do that also.

realy ? Soviet subs during WW2, were one of the most active during the war, and were even able to break through the blockades and hunt german ships and submarines. They were quite insane with it. Read your history and their submarine fleet was probably the biggest in the world when the war started

What if we also gave destroyers ping? Now hold on before you panic... they can only ping submarines, and that’s it. It’s so they can torpedo subs underwater and not have to rely only on depth charges.

I like that for balancing. Noster is showing this shotgun technique and it looks grossly broken. Depth charges are fine but giving subs homing torpedoes even though subs didn't have them in the war, means we can have a ping with our DDs. It is either that or equip them all with hedgehog. First homing torpedo was developed in the war called Fido, but it was an acoustic homing anti-submarine torpedo.

@@gryphon9507 I think the first concept of homing torpedoes is the G7e Falke, the germans made that in March 1943, so when I saw the homing torps for Germans, it feels historical... but then they implement it at others... I mean, I thought they would give every nations have gimmicks like, that homing torps for Germans, the Magnetic Fuse for USN, bow and stern torps for USSR, and maybe SSV for IJN.... but now this looks boring since they'll have same gimmicks and little variant of playstyle

Apperently the Falke and Fido came on line in the same month of that year Germans landed the first kills on shipping but only a few were used before discontinued for a new model that was faster. Fido killed U640 not soon after Falke first use, dropped from PBY so it was the first air dropped anti-sub torpedo and Flake was the first homing anti-ship torpedo. Still stands to reason in this arcade game we call World of Warships that DDs could get homing torpedoes for anti-sub.

@@JTJ1944 Their "counter" should just be able to submerse below depth charge range at the cost of rapid oxigen depletion, forcing them to eventually rise up. Steel Ocean implemeted subs very well. Should learn a thing or two from them. (Too bad the game is dead)

Honestly all ships NEED depth charges. They don't need differnt types tho, a BB is so slow and has such a big turn radius that is enough of a disadvantage in itself. Same with all classes the advantage is in a ships speed and maneuverability. So i believe universal DC couod work... maybe different nations though...

@@Strato5 Is it just me, or does nobody care about historical accuracy anymore? As a person who is also interested in naval history, it just hurts my eyes to see a bb countering a DD by sailing over it and throwing down depth charges... Why don't we focus on the thing, that was also the counter in real naval warfare: Team play. Every boat has its tasks and should support each other..

I think submarines need a cooldown to prevent it from constantly switching to surface and dive. Totally agree sub torps need an arming time.

Slower surface and diving speed, similar to real life but not exactly the same, like a whole 3-5 seconds to dive and surface 👍 Because a real submarine would at least take more than a few minutes to dive and surface

@@therevanchist1123 i mean if you do it like they do with rudder it could work. also it means you really have to thread the needle when it comes to surfacing and diving. go up to quick and your entire sub is one the surface for a good 10 sec do it right and it's more like 5

Actually, no. What I noticed, watching many hours of PTS play by my own clan and different streamers, is even though you still have the throttle set to full, once your battery charge is depleted, your sub will slow down to half speed - and then you have to slow to 1/4 speed or come to a stop to recover battery charge underwater - which takes an exceedingly long time, on the order of several minutes - whereas if you surface, it takes roughly half a minute or better to recover a full charge - and moving any faster than 1/4 speed underwater will deplete your battery charge, the faster you go the more rapidly it depletes.

@@mitchelloates9406 OK but you can run underwater forever without battery? Even if at 1/4 speed what do you think is propelling the boat forwards. They were called diesel/electrics for a reason. If the battery runs out you need to surface pronto. Diesels underwater would pollute the air so quickly the whole crew would die. Snorkels weren't brought in until 1944 that's why subs were a death trap mid to late war years. We had sonar, we'd plugged the north atlantic gap. Subs were underwater coffins by the end of the war. 75% casualty rate the highest of any branch.

Balance Subs : Re-introduce Oxygen mechanic Reduce Vision Range (similar to being in a Cyclone so subs rely on DDs to spot) You say DDs can counter Subs.. But how can DDs even get close to depth charge a sub when there are CAs and BBs in normal games waiting to destroy DDs

I don't agree with vision range since its quite... stupid. They're made to do reconnaissance with a low detection while not being able to detect stuff unless they're close. I mean, honestly, its a double edge sword unless its at max depth. I wouldn't play the risk and these guys are made for sniping if anything.

This is a long post. I would love to see more depth in the ASW gameplay . Where are the ASW plane bombers ? Why does submarines , DD and CL can't use mines , a major job they did have ? And your right , BB and CA are totally hopeless against Sub , and BB especially need some more gameplay depth... because right now the only thing they do is : SHOOT BIG GUN. This is super sad , when you know some BB had planes , radars , mines , torpedoes , and could repair/resupply other ships etc...but no, they mostly just SHOOT BIG GUN in world of warship. It is sad. DD line : 3 depth charges , possible water mine consumable and mine sweeper, possible ASW Seaplane (Like the Cooper) CL line : 2 depth charges , possible water mine consumable and mine sweeper , possible ASW Seaplane (Like the Köln) CA /BB line : 1 depth charge , possible water mine consumable and mine sweeper , possible ASW Seaplane (Like the Desmoines) CV : Introduce the ASW Fido bomber , will drop a torpedo-mine specially designed against Submarines. (Like the Chaser) SUB : -add the little mounted guns please, some subs had canons for close engagement . -add water mine launcher , long CD . Water mine consumable : 3 mines launched back to back from the rear and is armed after 10 secondes. 3 charges per ship. Can explode without discrimination !! The water mine : Detection range of 1Km , explose if an entity is within 150m or less after 3 secondes or on contact of an entity (even a shell). Explosion radius of 300m and citadel damage on contact. The mine can be detected by acoustic radar at range of the radar. Deals 10 000 damage baseline , +50% on citadel . Reduced damage by torpedo protection. The Mine sweeper : 2Km range , 60sec duration . The mines can't detect the ship and if in 150 meter range of the ship , the mine is taken out of water (no more mine) . Nation speciality : USS: +100% depth charges and mines , +100% ASW planes (all type) , Normal explosion radius , Normal damage , Normal CD , All rounder , use quantity over quality , love ASW planes . IJN: Normal % depth charges and mines , +50% explosion radius , +100% damage , Long CD Specialized , use quality over quantity Royal navy : -50 % depth charges and mines , +100% explosion radius , -50% damage , Normal CD Specialized , largest explosion , lower damage output. Kriegsmarine : +50 % depth charges and mines , normal explosion radius , +50% damage , low CD All rounder , mine layers experts . Soviet navy : +150 % depth charges and mines , -50% explosion radius , -50% damage , low CD Use Balans so they can make a soviet wall of mine . This should add more depth to the ASW and resolve some problem with the inability to fight submarines in some comical situations like CV vs Sub or BB vs Sub or Sub vs Sub while still leaving the DD and CL the main counter of Sub.

split the cruiser trees into light and heavy then equip light cruisers with depth charges as well. most cl´s had asw equipment in their roles as secondary sub defense after dd´s and escort carriers anyway. and not having a split in the cruiser line doesnt make sense anyway with how many existed during ww2 other than to put more ships behind a paywall.

SS just need a couple of adjustments and they could become a very nice addition to the game. Everyone who says that the new class will break the game is overreacting. Yes, some things will change, but saying it will break the game is an exaggeration.

@@esaualfaro3447 but the subs don't really capture the spirit of submarine warfare. For example being quiet, listening, and resource management were major parts, but wg hasn't put cavitation, passive sonar, or even air supply in the game as mechanics. If wg even want to maintain the self-disillusion that they are historically accurate then they need to consider these in the gameplay

You should see in the Asia server. Absolutely horrendous. Not team play whatsoever, toxic players that report you just cuz they want to, and also team kill if that wasn't enough already. Add in the fact that new players struggle a lot because of the veteran players and no matter what tier you can't afford to make a mistake, otherwise you're dead.

N.A. not bad. Little team play to a lot sometimes. As far as veterans being better it's always been that way. It's natural, in most any game I would say. You have to learn the hard way. Just watch a lot of vids for tips. I play all the time, although it may cut back some as I plan to do a lot of wild hog hunting soon.

Best way to balance this and keep things somehow historically accurate and fair... Depth Charges for all ships is not the answer. Make the surfacing and diving of the sub slower. No sub can actually go up and down that fast in real life. It will also make the "shotgun" style that is super unfair, almost too risky to do.

Some subs do can submerge within 30 seconds. I say they should also lower subs max speed. Theres no way a ww2 sub can reach that max speed

They could giver ships that have fighter aircraft a sub hunter aircraft that can drop depth charges. At least BBs should get them since they can't do anything while fighting a sub alone. Especially since the subs don't have to surface now.

@@ibnu9969 30 seconds is still a bit long and in WoWs surface and dive speed won't even take 3 seconds. It really needs to be adjusted and some Submarines during WWII, like the I-201 of the Imperial Japanese Navy can reach 19 knots submerged and the Type XVIIB U-boats of the Kriegsmarine can reach 25 knots submerged Well, those are special submarines made to be fast. Usual speed of WWII Submarines: Surface - 17 knots Submerged - 8-10 knots Some can only go 6 knots submerged.

one trick I used with destroyer that worked even against the shotgun was to attack from the sides at high speed. subs can't hit on the sides so if they can't suicide-surface on you they're helpless in that position. of course, I used german and british destroyers for the hydro acoustic to keep the exact orientation of the sub in view so I knew where the sides were. the subs are really frail under those depth charges. also important to keep in mind subs were designed specifically to challenge large surface ships in the game. a "counter-class" system. it would be interesting to see people using convoy formation to counter this new threat. if you have some guys hanging around with hydro, others can get ready to hit the sub when they surface

Submarines surfacing below water faster than normal ships can go from going backwards to 1/4 is kinda insane. They need time to go underwater. Especially if we are taking about subs between 1914-1940

I like the ideas you put forth in this video. What do you think about reducing the speeds of the subs to a more realistic speed underwater, to counter that insane stealth? It would be more realistic, and combined with your commentary, it would work to counter some of the problems inherent in the system at the moment.

I think the submarines should be given a sort time to submerge or to surface to make it more balance, cause using the battery sistem like this, submariner just have to learn how to shotgun instead of using the guided torpedo, but I agree with the idea of giving all ship a depth charge and just like the real one, the depth charge should be able to give some damage in area sou it doesnt have be on the same depth

the other ships you want to have depth charges, have enough skills to deal with other things, otherwise you just make everything cookie cutter which makes it boring, are you going to give the cv depth charges as well?

Historically the cv's were a big thread to sub's. I think they should definitely get a plane tpye with depth charges or something else to fight sub's. This can be in the place of another plane type, taking some stress off of the other ship types. I don't think it would be a good idea to give every ship type depth charges however, because it takes away the unique weapons of the ships that do have them

Think later in the Game with all DD sunk. As a Sub it´s just seal clubbing BBs. Even a Unicum can´t do sh*t. As a Sub you just pop up, torp and dive out of detection. Stay below 6m and wait for your reload. There´s nothing the BB can do. ASW would at least give him something.

@@Markus__B I think something like a catapult plane with asw capabilities is more useful in that case, because it has more range. I also think that the case where a destroyer can stay submerged for as long as it wants is a problem. There needs to be something that forces them to surface, like they previously had with the oxygen. In this case a bb can also simply shoot the sub

Agree with you Notser the "shotgun" or "dolphin, as you called it recently" can't be defended and must be changed {5 seconds ! I had recommended a timer be put on subs which lengthen's their surface + dive time to make it more realistic and fair to ships. Not sure if most of the test games end with primarily subs, but if they are that's one indicator they are perhaps to powerful needing a little more balance. LOVE your analysis and tactics study!!

The current live-server is just 5-6 BBs per side, camping all time. The test-server is the most realistic Wows was ever in; destroyers and cruiser clashing it out while the subs linger around - perfect! The occasional Bob with his BB enriches the scenery. Reminds me alot of the Norwegian invasion; dozens of DDs, some cruisers and the lonely Warspite. :D

fix: submerging has a cool down that activates upon surfacing. once surfaced, you cannot submerge for xyz seconds.

DDS and light cruiser should be able to "get a lock on the subs" with a detection penalty. BBs should also be able to get that ASW feature with a module above tier 6.

Why not give the battleships a consumable to plant area denial deep mines map wide, that only affects subs. maybe using the map to plant them, similar to SPGs in World of tanks

What about the planes onboard ships, like, on battleships or cruisers, they should be able to use them in the ASW role, a consumable like the spotter/fighter plane could work, when you activate the consumable, the plane goes after the sub that is near the player, maybe give the player the abilitiy to select a target for the plane to attack, a bit like the secondaries on ships. (sorry for my weird english)

Need to have slower dive dives, or rechargeable air to prevent immediate reviving and slower travel speed under water, also torps need min arm time. Imo, below periscope depth you should have to rely on manually AOE pinging to see anything, and it should give away the area of your position. Depth charges on every ship is a good idea too.

Also maybe make aircraft more of a threat by giving them depth charges as well? Aircraft were a huge counter to submarines irl and carriers with ASW planes played a big role in killing subs. Aircraft can only spot the sub if it’s on the surface/periscope then have a similar dynamic to dive bombers to drop.

or distance + damage the farther away from the more damage the torp has. So shooting a bb you have to be farther away to do real damage. you can be closer on a dd due to less armor

How to make subs not OP and bearable in 3 very easy steps: 1. Give torps arming time 2. Remove the ability for torps to always ignore torpedo protection with pings, make it possible but random with pings and not possible without them. 3. Add an oxigen bar that depletes when submerged and depletes faster the deeper you go.

The theory that a DD will just hunt them in a random battle is a joke. The DD will be spotted by the sub first and the enemy team will just blap it out of the water just like spotted dd's are now. Then it's game over for your team as the sub just pushed you into the death ball for the whole enemy team to kill

What is the hard counter to a sub? DDs and aircraft have always been that IRL, also DDs were almost never targeted by subs, as that was pretty much a death sentence. American DDs were designed to hunt and destroy subs, British used more defensive tactics to deter subs attacking convoys, which was actually very effective. I'm not seeing this, your video demonstrates that as it stands now, DDs are a very effective against DDs. WG is taking a huge chance in this, and I personally think this idea will backfire worse than me after a egg and bean sandwich .

Give the BB's & heavy cruisers with a catapult a float plane with depth charges that auto drop at an area around the ship. Give the ships without catapult fighters, a "Hydrophone" consumable (Hydroacoustic Search but only for sub surface vessels), to allow them to at least spot the subs to be able to train their turrets in their direction or run.

they should implement a similar system to priority sector with depth charges, so a ship can generally locate where to drop depth charges. This will make thigs more interactive and competitive, but yeah every ship should have some kind of countermeasure to subs. BBs and heavy cruisers could have a limited charge or lower depths or damage etc.

any clue on the flags for subs cuz if you cant add them then you will lose credits more often then not if you dont have preem account. i dont care about the stelth boost on como but most camos have exp fee exp and credits boosts and the like. but i know there still in testing so they may fix that be fore adding i wont lie tho i sow the guns that fire the sonar ping and thought close quarters expert hear i come

I thought if subs ran out of battery they would have to go to the surface? I know it's an arcade game, but batteries were recharged with diesel engines. Also DDs being strong against subs isn't going to help much with how fast they often die especially with when there is a CV in the match.

i've posted a similar idea on flamu's and jingles videos for a while now just a slower recharge on depth charges so a BB or CC can push off a sub attack once every minute or two. I think the damage should remain the same closer to the charges you are the more damage, but just some way to defend normal ships, besides the CV's i want subs to be CV killers so they have to stick with the rest of the team put themselves in conventional fire range sometimes.

Have it so some DDs have the option of dropping sea mines that only effect subs at that max depth or below the levels that gunfire can hit them but have to sacrifice depth charges but can lay a patch of mines in one square at low tier but up to three or so depending on nations etc and have the mines with low concealment but it would allow the DDs and maybe some cruisers and BBs to block off sectors to subs for a few minutes or so and only hydro on some subs can find them to make it fair and give advantages to subs with sonar as well as a disadvantage to the dive to the deck tactic so the shotgun can’t happen all the time maybe make it so the detectability of the mines are determinant of battery level

Every bb should have a new consumable that’s like immediate close range secondary’s that lasts 5-8 seconds to help mitigate the “shotgun” play by subs cause the shotgun technique is op in my opinion
