SOYBEANS IN TINY FOOD PLOTS??? IS IT POSSIBLE???

In this video I plant 3 tiny food plots for whitetail deer hunting in soybeans. Soybeans are one of the most desired food sources for whitetails in the summer months and most food plotters don't plant soybeans because large acres are needed to keep the deer from over browsing the plots to the point of death. In this video I conduct a experiment to see if scarecrows and motion detectors alarms are enough to raise a successful food plot of soybeans in a tiny plot

Looking forward to seeing the result of this one. Been thinking of doing the same thing on a little bit larger food plots that will need to be rotated to somthing other than brassica for next year. Great video Wes

Man, I had a quarter acre plot in the same type of situation. Relatively low deer density but I was determined to get beans. I put up an electric fence and got a great stand. Looked beautiful and thick. Took the fence down week before season. Set opening day 2-3 deer seen in the plot. Afterwards the deer wiped the plot clean with nocturnal movement in 2 weeks. I mean nothing left but stems over waist high. It was crazy. Got clover in that plot now. Good luck with yours.

Yes sir, I will Keep these soybeans protected until they make actual soybeans, I won’t try to hunt early over this plot. I’ll likely try to protect it until mid October, but I’m also planning on seeding some other plots into them. Thanks for watching.

@DIYfoodplotpro
@DIYfoodplotpro Месяц назад
It will be an interesting experiment and I agree it’s high chances of failure, poor soil, high deer density, and limited food around for the deer. Thanks for watching

Not sure that a "sound" alarm will work. I have camera's installed at my plots and I can view and set off an alarm which I have tested on both turkey and deer and neither of them even bother with the alarm and it sounds like the one he's got so that might not be your best option. I have set the alarm off several times while deer are feeding and even within 15 yards they just stop look around and go right back to eating. I am going spread Irish Spring soap that I "grated" into small strips tommorow so I can test that out which I might add a scarecrow or two also.

@DIYfoodplotpro ok im waiting on this as well, I have a large deer population so I need all I can get to protect over browsing

@@DIYfoodplotpro Update to the Irish Spring soap deterrent for deer. I ground up 20 bars of soap using a hand crank cheese grater, put the product in 1 gallon zip-lock bags and stuff them in the freezer due to the heat. I spread it down through my 1.5 acre plot of beans and although the deer showed up that evening they didn't stick around. Now we are in a drought mode at the moment so my beans are getting hit pretty hard by the deer I planted them the weekend before Memorial Day weekend and it rained twice afterwards but nothing in the past 4 weeks. The beans are about 4-5 inches tall due to the deer pressure. I jumped on my cameras today and checked and they are greening up really well since the rain we got last night. I checked the cameras back to the time after I spread the soap, and so far the soap is working to an extent. I don't have 15 to 20 deer hanging out in the beans for hours, they have visited but they are not hanging around which is good. I caged off a 20ft spot to see how much pressure they are putting on the beans and I have to say that so far it's working. Time will tell since it's only been a week, so I'll update in mid-July. Thank you for the suggestion Wess

Wes.....interesting, we have never tried to broadcast and then till the seed in. That looks like a great procedure, one pass and done. Did you cultipack or disc the beans in after broadcasting them? How has this one pass system worked for you in the past? Thanks, Bob

Wes in my neck of the woods we haven't gone 3 days without rain since the snow melted, 180 deg from drought last year, I got my beans in finally but not expecting much probably overseed brassicas. Do I need more fertilizer in 8 weeks.
@DIYfoodplotpro
@DIYfoodplotpro Месяц назад
Wow that’s amazing the difference from this year to last year. You shouldn’t need more fertilizer for the soybeans, when you’re adding brassicas to the beans in the fall depending on how well the beans grew I’d add 50-100LBS of nitrogen per acre. Thanks for watching and good luck with the plots!

@DIYfoodplotpro Месяц назад
It says on the bag…what kind did you buy? Thanks for watching
@stevenmoss2152
@stevenmoss2152 Месяц назад
The lower the number the earlier the bean and the shorter the growing season. Most of the bags have numbers such as 4856, 5240 as an example. That would be a 4.8 and 5.2 bean.
