Naw what always gets me is the sole *W o a h* and then everyone loses there crap. Also keep in mind that the very next mission is the night raid on the erusan airbase
What were the guys in Project Aces eating to make this mission? We got an escort mission against good enemy aces and very annoying hard-to-hit drones, while giving you a feeling of being with a big allied squadron that protects each other and cheers when you down an enemy and saving them Then it shifts to the breath holding moment to detect the Alicorn with the MAD with the sense of urgency to find it as fast as you can nagging at the back of your head. The moment you do, you find out the enemy KNOW how you're going to look for them and disappeared, running away. That part is heart dropping alone, and then you have to do it again with enemies on your back, hoping that your allies that you always know to be less skilled then you to cover you. Since most people tend to shoot things down themselves in Ace Combat, this really tore you between finding the Alicorn ASAP or shoot down the enemies first. And then, the Alicorn, the very thing that you've been chasing for three missions appeared in front of you, unleashing INSANE amount of fire, the first time you see what it can do, even sinking allied ships so easily. Watching the flurry of AA fire, missiles, fighters, UAVs, the railguns AND the shield drones will show you that you're facing a really, REALLY dangerous enemy. I don't think there's another enemy in Ace combat where you have to pay so much attention to different things to dodge. The moment the Alicorn surrenders really felt like a 'you know he's guilty, but you can't arrest him' moment. I think it's just me, but knowing how unpredictable Torres is, I actually think that he won't attack again and find out some other way to do it. The part when you have to stop the railgun through the shield drones gave me a feeling similar when everything goes into slow motion and you have to shoot a precise target in mere seconds. That final part is just plain madness, not just from Torres himself. The entire submarine felt like it's a madman that just got shot and bleeding, but they still swing a knife wildly and spraying bullets everywhere. Add the fact that the railgun turrets keeps firing in a high rate of fire when you have to go REALLY close to it to hit the main railgun. Also, I like Torres' story about how he 'managed to hit one out of the two shots'. It's an ominous foreshadowing that even against a harsh condition, he will not miss, but if he somehow does, the next shot WILL hit. Ironically, this applies to Trigger too, when he didn't manage to destroy the railgun at first, he'll destroy it the second time. When Torres said 'landing a shot on a difficult target is elegant and true beauty', that ALSO applies to Trigger trying to hit the railgun. Finally, when it's over, when Strider and Cyclops just fly together in a straight line, sighs of relief are made as the adrenaline dies down. You did it. It was really tough, but you did it. Pretty nice that the mission didn't end immediately. I'm gonna say it: This is the best boss battle in the Ace Combat series ever by a LARGE margin. No other opponent gives you that much adrenaline or that many emotions coursing through you.
@@OFJehutyV2 Pixy is really good and epic, the jousting is one of the most badass things to be pulled off in Ace Combat series. And lemme tell you, it's not even close. Alicorn bested it in music, adrenaline, difficulty, buildup, emotions, and if you prefer now the antagonist acts, straight up evil.
I maintain that the cinematic nature and aerial combat of the Aigaion battle was better than this. Playing that gaming and watching the swarms of fighters weave through the formation of massive airships is absolutely insane. However, the buildup wasn't as good as the Alicorn and neither was the writing.
Nah, they were all loyal unto death to Matias. Not only was he already a venerated war hero but by following his orders for those two years they were stuck at the bottom of the sea, they survived. Yes, some of them died, and I think they might have been killed off to preserve supplies while also being the ones who would not fall in line with him. For two whole years. Just imagine the panic, claustrophobia, homesickness, and 'sub fever' a person would suffer. . Undoubtedly, they all became a bit unhinged and Matias being the sensual and charismatic war hero, they held onto the belief that he could get them out of there. Lo and Behold, they were rescued which undoubtedly made them even more loyal to him. They had the ocean buried on top of them, everyday worried about dwindling food supplies and the structural integrity of the hull giving way. "Be not afraid! Did you not leave your fears behind at the bottom of the Abyss?" These men knew no fear of death and would follow their captain through the gates of Hell. Even when the submarine was split in two, none of them sought to escape. The captain went down with his ship, and his crew chose to sink with him.
@@Lulu-ex7fc Also on a sub that big? Anyone who wanted off probably could have rushed for any evacuation equipment and made a run for it. This things the size of a skyscraper. If it doesnt have some kind of emergency escape vehicles...
I just want the villain, after being dealt the finishing blow to be like this, "No! No! Noooo!" or something along those lines. It may be cliche, but it feels very satisfying to me.
@@michaelbreckshot6589 Honestly, I think Torres is past that point. That moment you mentioned probably happened when Trigger made the railgun miss (When he screams "What happened!?"). Notice that Torres is actually pretty level and rational in this mission until that happened, when he just snapped into this insanity that his plan WILL succeed, even if his sub sinks.
“He leads the way.” That single line just solidifies my opinion of Trigger being the best ace in the entire series. Blaze was a squadron leader Cipher was a demon Mobius was a lone wolf Trigger is a SYMBOL of hope, sticking with him and you’ll live to see another day
all singularities make whoever is with them survive longer , thats what make them so important to whoever side get one they can change the outcome of a war just by themselves , of course once the war is over theres questions as to what to do with one for now all the singularities we played stayed loyal etc , but whats to say some singularities in some countries didnt become mercenaries etc and so really dangerous
@@the_director_vinsanity make sense why Clemens want him assassinated now. A pilot like him is too dangerous, it just happens there are evil people like Torres so that Trigger has a target. In another universe, Trigger probably wrecked the entire Osean military simply because he's fed up of being accused of the murder he didn't do. I honestly wish PA is as eloquent as say, Hideo Kojima in exploring things like this, cause this is really an interesting theme.
1. So this is what Trigger and his colleagues did before midnight mission for capturing Erusea's airfield on September 16. 2. Unfortunately, that computer is about to be shut down; due to worldwide telecommunications disruption. 3. Don't you see, Captain Torres? This is the salvation for you!
thankfully the regular missiles recharges up to 2 missiles in this game even if you're running out of them, but even the most experienced player like him had no choice but to resorting on using the cannons since the recharge rate was pretty slow
The choir on the song everytime the Alicorn is mentioned or appears reveals that, even when used in Erusean hands, it's still a proud son of Yuktobania
Would have preferred if the Alicorn was a Super Dragonet-class. That said, the music is more or less a throwback to the Dragonet-class submarines from AC2/AC3D
@@aguywhodoesntexist Erusea claims he defected and wasn't affiliated with them any longer, so what repurcussions would there be? As for his character, I don't think he was meant to be anything more then the opposite side of the same coin that is the "Ace Pilots" of the franchises games. He's the enemy ace then went the wrong direction.
I can't be the only one getting some MGS4 vibes from all of this. Both games have impractically large submarines with railguns targeting high-value targets which, if destroyed, will bring about a swift victory in the war for the enemy. Both fights take place at either sunrise or sunset. In MGS4, the submarine _Outer Haven_ engages in battle with the _Missouri,_ an Iowa-class battleship. In AC7, it is explained that Torres was in command of the _Tanager,_ also an Iowa-class battleship, before taking command of the _Alicorn._
So, having learned through RU-vid comments that both the Scinfaxci and Hrimfaxi (sp?) were based on Norse mythology, I decided to google "Alicorn." And this goes way back. According to ancient Assyrian mythology, Alicorns are a hybrid of a Pegasus (winged horse) and a unicorn. They were commonly mentioned as being along side winged bulls. According to the exact legend, either the Alicorn itself is seen as evil or they are seen as good counteracting the bulls' evil. Fits in perfectly with Ace Combat. The Eurusians saw it as a weapon to justly strike Osea while the Oseans saw it as a terrorist's weapon.
The soundtrack, the gameplay, the narrative... The main campaign should have been like the DLC missions and they would have absolutely nailed it. Still, vanilla AC7 is a good AC game, but boy are SP missions better than the main missions.
So many incredible moments. Such a well designed plot, great characters, incredible mission design, wingmen that seem to shoot down the enemy, amazing cutscenes and to top it off Alex's version of "stick with trigger and you'll make it"
Sure...if the PA haven't rushed to create the game itself (just as they are coming out from the heels of the marginally sucessful Infinity); it would have been better just like the DLC ones.
I just noticed at the end that it has text saying that Trigger "Participated"/"Did not participate" in pictured operations along with the "In operation attrition rate". The level of detail this game has reflects very well on its creators!
@@cry0genic52 the mission after the three parter on the Shayne Plains, where you actually engage Excalibur, it can swipe a good 10 to 15 degrees. I rarely got hitbback in the day, but i've gotten rusty lol. Got killed by a Rot the other day on the Gauntlet run
September 19th, Happy birthday SkyEye! "And to the pilots that fought in the past before Trigger, this one's for you" That's basically Project Aces message to us.
That space elevator theme in the starting cutscene is so good. Unsettling and ominous. Lol @10:00 - it's only fitting to have a reference to Hunt for Red October
After this mission comes out for a while, I come to appreciate your run much more~ You're one of the few players that didn't destroy the Alicorn's railguns, and didn't strip most of it's defenses. Not to mention you used the Raptor instead of the superplanes that just use TLS or the massive AOE specials.
Not only that, he destroyed the railgun cannon with machine gun cuz he had no more missiles but then with some protagonist power he gained another 2 missiles and destroyed the railgun cannon. I fucking love this gameplay.
Now with the DLC complete, the only thing left to do is to retrace our steps back at the beginning and follow the timeline of the Lighthouse War from beginning to end at Ace difficulty. Love the debriefing. It's almost like Wiseman is saying: "To be continued in Operation Werewolf"
25:21: The Alicorn suffered the same fate as her ancestors Scinfaxi and Hrimfaxi but split herself into two parts just like HMS Hood during her engagement with the German battleship Bismarck.
@@KKdessu reactor i can see blowing up, but if that was the case, it would more likely happen at the back, near the engineering section. as for cappacitors, they would also probably not be stored in the mid section, and even when they overload, capacitors aren't known to make giant explosions, due to the relatively low ammount of stored energy. they are just able to release said energy extremelly fast. what i think must have happened is that the electric arcs caused by the capacitors overloading then being accidentally put in a closed loop due to the gun falling down must have triggered the conventional charge of the shell, and added up with the extensive battle damage to cause a global structure failure. considering the giant explosion underwatter, i sugest this is when the actual nuclear warhead detonated, or the reactor exploded.
@@mobiuscoreindustries Given how powerful those capacitors got to be chuck something the size of a battleship round some 3,000 kilometers; those capacitors are likely *damn* powerful and that much energy means that it can easily get explosive
Isn't it sad? Throughout this entire DLC Wiseman's not flying with us. He's not present in Mission 14. And then when he finally flew again during the Farbanti Siege he got downed by Mihaly.
It was on that day, the Ribbon'd Reaper's debt was paid in the lives of 300 souls. It was the Osean Hound of three strikes upon his back, that ensured Torres was sent to his Abyssal Grave.
Especially during the final rush to destroy the cannon. You can feel the intensity and the captains insanity to massacre 1 million people to fulfill a sick and twisted desire. Add that with the wrath of trigger and his allies after the false surrender and you've got one of the best superweapon battles in the franchise
29:34, So I guess "Stick with Trigger, and you'll make it," is official Osean military protocol now. Also, I can't wait for the full soundtrack release so we can get that version of the main theme.
“Stick with Trigger and you’ll make it,” huh? That was great; it was absolutely awesome hearing the rest of the squad at the end of the mission. Dialogue has been top notch, along with everything else in this trilogy. Hope they do more, I don’t think I’m ready to say goodbye to Strider squadron just yet!
"they've no need for living heroes, just dead ones" So Osea kills, or attempts to kill their Aces. Makes sense why they suddenly disappear or go into hiding after every story.
Actually I was expecting Torres to shout out SALVATION at the destruction of the submarine... Strangely he didn't mentioned it (or rarely mentioned as I didn't noticed) in this mission.
Either way, the surviving remnant of the Continental War has now been wiped out and put to rest for good. His insanity even at the end....I think the Mobius Squadron did more than wipe out his former fleet, but his mind too.
@leon4000 I don’t like how it’s all wrapped up with a pretty neat bow, I wanted to see a darker shadow over the rest of the series. Also I want more conspiracy thriller with Clemens and co.
@@aguywhodoesntexist Maybe during the time gap between Battle for Farbanti and Last Hope? Clemens bails out of jail due to the comms blackout and steals an Osean military plane to continue spreading false intel while using the comms blackout to his advantage.
That final battle was so intense! Well-played! Well you're pretty fast in all missions - it's very satisfying to watch you wipe enemies off the map. It's just so .... ELEGANT!!
I loved David's speech. But I almost wish that when David said "but there are others" it was alluding to a mission series of tracking down and stopping individuals who were truly evil and threatening the state of an already unstable Strangereal. Going around with David saving the world in a "villain of the week" mission series.
Next ace combat series i hope to play as the Yukes for the main player nation. It would be lovely to see them finished this Alicorn class (Maybe further improved) unknowingly for the other nations and the player squad launching from it, performing deep strike missions to the targeted nation from the cause of a world with no boundaries starting an international accident that triggered a war with them.
Imagine this second Super Scinfaxi-class (yes, technically, Alicorn is Super Scinfaxi-class) submarine being called "Gullfaxi". Maybe you can even serve as a terminal guidance unit for one of the shells from the heavy railgun during a deep strike operation.
25:11 anybody else notice that the Alicorn is basically disintegrating from the massive amounts of power needed to fire the main gun. Even small railguns IRL need massive amounts of power. Imagine a 600mm caliber railgun’s required power.
Someone said this in the comments too. Something about how the Railguns' explosion and the battle damage caused the rail gun to charge conventionally, thus causing a chain reaction.
Think of it like what happened to the HMS Hood when the Nazi Battleship "Bismarck" sunk it during WW2. Probably the remaining ammo ignited and detonated all at once, basically ripping the Alicorn in two. The same happened when Bismarck struck the HMS Hood with such a salvo that the Powder Mag ignited and detonated with such force it ripped Hood apart and it sunk like the Alicorn
By far the best, most enjoyable and tense mission since Ace Combat Zero. That's how good it is. And for me, Zero is an unbeatable game in terms of soundtrack and the sheer scope of it all, and is why it is my all time top favourite Ace Combat game, period.
I would like to see an Alicorn mission in Infinity format, imagine an Alicorn with lasers, burst missiles, railguns, and with Butterfly Master as its escort.
Torres wouldn't have saved a ten million by killing a million. If he had nuked Oured, I gurantee the Oseans would have returned the favor to Erusea and at the minimum turned Farbanti from a crater into a radioactive crater.
So, we've reached the end of the road. What's next? Will there be more side stories that complement the Lighthouse War to read and explore? Will there be missions where Trigger has to face and fight the remaining members of Spare Squadron? Will there be more super weapons for us to look in shock and awe like the Alicorn? Will there be characters as intriguing to investigate as General Shepherd and Mimic Squadron? Will there be moments as memetic as Captain Torres' obsession with white bedsheets and the poor, poor cola? All in all, I had fun following this DLC campaign despite me being unable to play it myself. Until that moment comes, I'm giving it a solid 9.3/10. Also, the Erusean port commander and Alex are now favourite waifus. Especially Alex, just because of that cute laugh at the end.
The Alicorn sets up two potential callbacks for future games. There's the poor nation/city that got nuked that wasn't Oured that could produce another radical like Torres. Or there's a nuclear shell in the wreckage of the Alicorn that could be recovered for an attack.
Not really. The shell landed in the Spring Sea, not on a random town. And the Alicorn completely exploded underwater, there's nothing left to salvage besides pieces of metal floating in the waves.
