It was great having you and Liam as a part of team Orion! I'm glad you had such a good time at Space Camp and we look forward to seeing Liam at a week long program once he gets a little older!
You were in Huntsville recently? I moved to Huntsville back in August for a new job. Next time you come back you should hike Monte Sano State Park. I know the place.
@@woltersworld so glad y'a'll got to visit Huntsville, I love living here! I second the recommendation to visit Monte Sano Mountain, and the walking trails & waterfalls across North Alabama, there are soooo many it's like finding hidden gems around here! If you do get to come back to Huntsville, be sure to check out Lowe Mill, its the largest privately owned arts & entertainment facility in America! Also go explore The Deep Comics shop (huge collection!) and Lucky Dice Café (they make great sandwiches) the antique shops (my faves are Packard's, Railroad Station, and Firehouse Antiques & Collectibles) and be sure to check out Egg Beater Jesus! 😁
I loved this!!! I went to Space Academy for the week of Thanksgiving when I was in 8th grade. I think that's when the habitats were brand new. Still have my workbook! I was on EVA for the 1st mission & weather and tracking for the 2nd. I now indirectly work with NASA & I love still having that connection. Thank you Mark. I'm still considering doing the adult version 30+ year's later.
BRING IT ON BOY! normally we get to see the "not do this"of whatever country. but space camp? SPACE camp? let's see what not to do.... keep uploading, you're a legend.
I live in HUNTSVILLE. I wish I would've known you were here I could've shown you ALL around Alabama 🤗 I also went to Space Camp as a kid & teen. Please come back SOON!
@@ProfessorWolters YAY!!! 😃 So glad to hear y'all will be coming back. I love, love, love Huntsville: it isn't too big, perfect balance of urban convenience--some of it quite upscale--with relaxed southern vibes, and has plenty of interesting things to explore and it's all readily accessible within a 30 minute drive or less! I just found your channel while browsing New Orleans tour videos and your 10 don'ts for NOLA came up in my recommendations, followed by 10 things about the South vid. Great content, subscribed! 👍👍👍
So glad to see a video from my sweet home Alabama! Hope you enjoyed your time there. FYI, if you are ever back in Huntsville and want some good German food, go eat at Ol' Heidelberg Cafe. You'll feel like you are in Germany. It is so good.
@@ProfessorWolters That just means you have to go back 😉. Safe travels to you and your family always! And thanks for all the travel videos. They are a great resource.
My daughter has got selected for a space camp training here through a private company....guardians are not allowed to come....is it safe to leave the children here for 5 days ??...they will be providing hostel facility
I remember seeing space camp commercials as a kid in the late 90s/early 00s and was deathly afraid of it. Looks more fun as an adult now lol. And man that's way more serious than I expected it to be.
A lot of fun! I went to Adult Space Academy my late 20s. Would not go to 70s (aka now)! It's very intense. The beds are horrendous and it's cold. I also went to Aviation Challenge which was fun as well. Great video brought back a lot of memories. The food was awful when I was there (better for Aviation Challenge).
I went over 20 years ago as a child, the food was mostly unremarkable except for the worst green beans I've had in my life. It's been too long to explain what was wrong with them, but I refused to eat them at all once I was home and it was very puzzling to my mother. I'll eat them today when provided but it's not something I will make on my own. The trauma lingers even when the pain has faded from memory, lol. Everything else about the trip was great and I'm thinking about going as an adult once to get the full experience.
A massive don’t and I mean MASSIVE is don’t ask about the space toilets. It’s extremely disrespectful and everyone will hate you for it. Please for the love of all holy don’t ask the astronauts about the bathroom.
I went to space camp when I was little and would love to do it again. I live in Huntsville, though the program is pretty expensive which is the main barrier.
Sounds like a lot of space camp would be better focused as a separate ''space tourist'' experience. Even astronauts have comfort and relaxation built into their routines.
They made one called "Space Warriors", it came out in 2013. My dad played a minor role, Mr. Petrov. He has also been a NASA engineer at Marshall Space Flight Center for 30+ years. 😁🚀
As an adult space camp attendee, do you have the option of declining activities? If I did not want to do the g-force spin machine, I could opt out of this activity? Thanks! Great video.
It's a rather late answer to your question but that shouldn't be a problem. I went as a kid and they didn't make you do anything if you didn't want to. I had to be talked into getting in the MAT. It's actually not bad at all, but they will let you skip things if you insist.
To add to the first one the advanced kids start at 5 and end at 11 to 12 and academy kids start at 6 and end at 10 to 11. Also for real camps I’m sorry but in hab 1 your back will die. Hab 2 you might not want to be tall or your too tall for the bed. Also tie your shoes and have a rain jacket with or you will get soaked and you may lose your shoes (Happened to me I lost my shoe in the middle of the storms). You will most likely not take a shower except after the lake because you won’t have time. I liked the Russian day but two things 1 don’t starve yourself 2 russian day isn’t the best. Last thing is if you go to Area 51 (challenge course) YOU NEED ACTUAL TENNIS SHOES. Some kids had closed two shoe but they wouldn’t work since they had open heels, holes, or the wrong type of sole.
i had a lot of fun when i visited from australia in 2019 :-) only bummer was missing out on a few activities due to my epilepsy. i could’ve done them (i only really have absence and minor seizures), but they were very VERY focused on safety whilst there. i managed to at least talk my way into the gyroscope thing, which i’m so glad i did!! also to non-americans, prepare yourself for the portion sizes. they expect you to eat three decent meals and snacks throughout each day, which was a tall order for a lot of us lmao.
Went with CAP back in the late '90s to the aviation challenge. Don't remember it being fun, as much as educational and demanding, but looking back, I sure wish I could go back! Dead on the head about the go, go, go, hope ya had a blast! Great adventure for you guys!
That was cool! I live in Huntsville and you can park around the back of the museum at the contractors entrance and just walk in for free. (I've done work there) I go there a lot and I bought a brick with my name on it. You can buy a brick paver and they install it next to the Saturn 5.
A good friend of mine that was working at McDonalds as he was earning his credits for his Phd. in Mechanical Engineering, Its really not polite to have assumptions of the width of knowledge where it goes to the Space Trainers.
How old is clearly been some renovations since I’ve been around 20 years ago I did a vision challenge we were there for a week with the blind I’m legally blind like myself and it was a lot of fun it was a lot going on I believe I won the red flag challenge you weren’t allowed to do the centrifuge which would’ve been awesome but that’s OK crimes are the words at night was interesting on Alabama
This is so cool! You are a great dad! I went to space camp in the late 90s I think I'd have more fun if my dad was with me as I was an awkward kid. Great parenting!!!
I’ve wanted to go there since seeing the movie as a kid in the 80s. Now as an adult, I’m waiting for my children to get old enough to go there. Hope to visit the museum before then.
My husband Jeff and son Will were on your Orion team last week! I was introduced to your youtube channel last year when I was looking for videos prior to our trip to Iceland, but Jeff had no idea about your youtube alt-identity until I just ran into this video and showed him, and he's like "they were on my team!" So funny!
Mark and Liam say, Hey! Liam told me about his new friend, Will. I'm so glad you commented Liam enjoyed camp with your son. Ps I hope Iceland was as amazing for you as it was for us.
@@ProfessorWolters I will! It blew Will's mind when he saw this video. He's hugely into Minecraft and watches some youtube gamers, so the idea that he met "real youtubers" was pretty darn cool to him!
@@taralanning6350 DM us on Facebook when you'll be in Germany and Austria. We may be able to meet up as we will be 'in the neighborhood' at some point.
Wow , I want to go there, it looks like a lot fun. My kids would love it. However, I am well over the 260 mark so I will be a spectator as well lol lol 😂.
@@woltersworld It is mate , just look at water , it won't conform to the outside of an object and most definitely not a magical space ball, and even more impossible a space ball that is supposed to be spinning at 1000 mph. It is impossible it really is that simple .
Wernher von Brauns home ... as welcomed citizen as member of the SS to benefit from his inventions. Usefull SS members became american citizens, others where hanged. But von Braun and his team were the best german post war imports. But no memorial for the history and sources for that success in the race to the moon ... cause the whole german rocket scientist driven team came at a price of the war victims since early days in Peenemünde , the german counterpart to Huntville, center of german liquid rocket development. A german SS commander as head of the american NASA moon program - history that deserves to be remembered ...
@@kmkaiser7 That Psalms 19:1thing? Yeah. As if von Braun had any say in what was written on his gravestone m8 :) Also the translation to english is questionable at best.
For some reason I always thought Space Camp closed. I remember the VHS from the 90s and always wanted to go as a kid. Now I guess I gotta go as an adult!
Wolters World I’m definitely gonna go and drag my girlfriend along with me lol Also, I love the end of this video!!! Laughed out loud both times I watched it 😂😂
I’m going to space academy in late August! I went to space camp earlier this year and can’t wait to go again!! I made so much friends and just a great experience in general. Planning on going until I can’t anymore! By then probably will become a crew trainer during college then make my way as an engineer and then a potential astronaut! This camp could plan out my life ahead and probably will. This camp is my career, this camp is my future and it could be yours to.. Exited to go again and again and you should to. I got to be the station commander in the mission and meet Victor Glover himself and also Hoot Gibson and plan to meet more in the future
