Space Engineer is like a mixture between Minecraft and Kerbal Space Program. The game is in alpha.
The main purpose of the game seems to be building a space fleet and fight/ally with the other factions. You build your ships piece by piece and the only know limit for the size of your ship is what you computer can handle.

Not to be THAT guy, but these would probably be built inside of a much larger structure making the door the weakest point.

Nick Trano i know your post is a bit old and such but I have to slightly disagree with you...after experimenting with the door designs for blast doors i have figured out a bit my design was as such...the door itself be made of 3 layers of small ship heavy armor in any fashion you want the door frame be 2 large ship/station blocks thick inner layer of light armor and then a layer of heavy on the front and that design stopped 48 small ship rockets before punching all the way through any of the armor which is either reloading 12 times in survival mode or firing 12 rocket pods 4 times. will it stop everything? not in a million years, but the fact that heavy armor isnt nearly as affected by warheads as light armor is it does the job. it literally took my friend 3 minutes to get through the door using a large ship with a landing gear on the nose trying to rip the door from the frame. it look him less than 60 seconds to ram a pole through the framing using the same large ship so in short the frame will always be the weakest point of a security door

Yes, I understand what you're saying but again that's a situation of the door not being inside a structure. You shouldn't build something like this for the outside of a ship where you can just drill through the walls to break the mechanism; this goes inside your station, preferably at the end of a tunnel.

The last one is not a drawbridge. A drawbridge was literally that. A bridge (usually across a pit or moat) that could be drawn up, to prevent access across said bridge. What you have there is a portcullis.

Was playin multiplayer, someone had locked up their station with some of your defense designs. Rather than sit in the chair he left on the outside and just turn them off, I decided to bring my small cargo truck and angle grinder, and steal them. I stole his stupid door, right out of his walls. These defenses are less than useless.

The defense wasn't for robbers or thieves. It was for attackers and to make it harder to get in than have someone just walk in and take everything, you at least had to cut open the door.

I checked out the video because I plan to add one to a hanger of mine. The point of mine is to stop things from flying out randomly due to multiplayer glitches. 4 of my ships have done that already and I want it to stop. For that purpose I don't think it's useless.

I like how he repeats 'it's all really simple'. Maybe that's because I'm new to this game it would took me a day to build something like this :D Obviously, compared to some crazy designs it's simple, but still takes some engineering to make it.

Why don't you use the upper limit and lower limit options? It'll stop you from moving the rotor in the wrong direction. Like on your last design, if the white line is already on 0 degrees, set your lower limit to 0 degrees, and your upper limit to, I'm guessing 270 degrees, for it to fully open. Or the other way if it's done in the opposite direction.

I just made a 3 piston hanger door myself, quite basic but I love the complex design & thought you put into making yours, I just bought the game & just built mine in survival it took 2 days IRT 2 designs but one I couldn't get the rotors to open the door correctly so just went piston 😂😂 great video brotha keep it up✌🙏🙏

Great doors. I use beacon turned off, for instruction or hints for later. You can write enough in them for that function. Its visible only in the 'k' menu if its off.

One problem with using these sort of designs in multiplayer would be that they weaken the hull around them. Sure your door will be thick but it wont matter when they can shoot through the gapped walls surrounding the door. You can probably use the same principles but just have the door go into or out of the ship radially so the hull stays thick

i just finished making a similar hangar door but it folded down and became part of the floor so you dont loose any ship real estate which can be very valuable. it is only 1 block thick but you can make the slot in the floor deeper and add layers if necessisary. you can also park small ships on it or use the area underneath it [if left open] as an area to hide secret ships

Henners1991 it sounds like it folds outwards, into space. so it effectively makes your hangar bigger, since you can park ships on the wall

the model i have folds in but it dosent crush anything next to it, only things it directly hits. you could make it fold out i suppose but that would be make your ship bigger. i just made another door for a station that opens horizontally out and has a thick protective door and then another door that covers it and seals any cracks and protects weak spots. that one is a little larger

Dear Arron what I would like to see next is a practical ship that culd be built and used in survival when It comes out because so far you have just been building large over the top buildings and ships that would never be feasible In survival thank you and keep on youtubing!

You could put together a piston door that's a lot more compact and just use math to find the exact rotation of the rotor to cover the required space. Perfect tightness, maybe use the wedge, ramp, and corner hull blocks as alignment. Idk, cool video

Once, I made a ship that used a circular rotating door. It was literally a disk with holes on either side of the rotational axis, but solid 90 degrees out. All you needed to do was rotate it a quarter turn, at any speed, and your ship was locked tight. Unfortunately, this sort of door does take up a lot of room, but this led to having a whole bunch of docking pads inside. I can post the workshop link if anyone's interested.

Amazing chain stuff. I wish they would add some sort of block that doesn't take damage from low speed collision (under 50m/s). Perhaps some sort of "rubber" block, that has absolutely no protection what so ever against missiles or guns (even hand-held rifles), but can be used for chains and other mechanisms without worrying about stuff breaking.

I made doors that open automatically based on proximity. You fly over to it, and it opens. Fly away, it closes. No buttons pressed.

Interesting, did you use some moded blocks? I'm still waiting for proper parts and pistons, and "after-rotor-block-copy" and "blocks-connected-with-landinggear-copy" function to work properly...im tired of this as it is now...not to mention lack of ability to connect "brake-off" pieces again.

Krolitian Will you care to share your secret? Same idea like this little doors for cat's/dogs inside of regular door? Rotor set to slowly close all the time and You just "push" them with your ship? =P Or you are using gravitation generators? => As far as i know there is no "proximity scan" objects hook-up into game mechanics we could use.

Liked the third configuration the best. Rest were a bit messy really but effective considering we are talkin blast doors here. I wonder if this would work using wheels like what you might see on a space elevator or lift? 🤔 Problem there of course is large amounts of Real Estate. Which may work in a base configuration but not really on a ship unless it's some Dreadnought or something. Another issue entirely is having to change the settings between opening and closing. Might be able automate that with a script though. Really love the mad scientist approach to blast doors. As they don't get enough love. 💕 Love these videos as I would be lost otherwise. :)

These designs are all great but you have to remember the bigger it is the easier it would be able to get disabled from enemy fire

Have you ever thought of using a Ramming/Drill mixture? So nur using a large ship, but a small one or a small within a large one. That way you could drill into the enemies hull witout damaging your own ship which could count as ramming (ish).

If you made the first example door 1 tile thicker, you could've put the landing feet on the top insted of the rear side to make it more concealable.

Maybe for the beacon "torpedo" can be a heavily aourmored small ship with laning gears, and the pilot could bail out

Bryden Smith i think factions are going to be in a separate game mode though. like the normal creative mode where everyone can build what ever they like. And then a faction mode where its faction vs factions. Dam i would love to see a ranking system that comes with faction vs faction

Do you think they should add grouping to terminal objects? IE, all gravity generators can be grouped, all lights, thrusters, ect

Not only that, but "presets" for rotors and gravity generators as well, so you can set different kind of settings to buttons and apply them instantly. Saves you the time to figure out the exact velocity your rotors need to make that door open without destroying half your facility.

I kinda like the automatic wiring so far (having to wire an entire spaceship would be tedious...), but you have a point there. Maybe checkboxes for every terminal that is connected to the component you have selected, so you can specify on which terminal you want to see this particular component.

The amount of space the doors take up is ridiculous and although they would be helpful in defending, the time it would take to operate, and build would render the door impracticable for a ship, except perhaps something like an Executor or Pride of the Core class star destroyers (look it up from Star Wars) a ship like that would make the server it's on too unstable to use on, I believe.

With the new gravity system im quite sure you could make a much more compact door system using the same system as in your gravity armor piercing torpedo but instead turing gravity gen on and off to move a stne locked in the door. We can specify the dept etc on the grav to avoid messing up the whole ship gravity.

sorry if this is not the correct video, i could not be bothered to find the 'mailbox' vid where you talked about radar and teleportation... radar in space is simple, use 'dradis' form battlestar galactica, i would be the same concept as the gravity map, maybe with a better design to better distinguish a 3d environment, like have a ship orientation grid to your viewpoint and fading of blips on the dradis to show how far away they are form a central axis....also, i like space engineers because its a more realistic space sim, if people wanted shields and teleporters they'd play starmade for free, now with hyperdrive, the gravity engines seem to work well if their made percicely (alignment and all) and the speed limit on the game is (greatly) increased, you wont need a hyperdrive engine.

Only question - Wouldn't the space where the blast door folds back to be a structural weakness? I.E. if someone see your blast door and can't breach it they could just go through the walls around the door due to the thinner armor where the doors goes when it opens?

Okay, that might be a silly question. But you say it would take a ton of time to actually brake through sone of these Blastdoors when you only make it thick enough. But what stops an attacker from just breaking through into the big empty room directly next to the door, that you allways need to Move the Door into for opening it?

These doors would be easier to use if the devs added the ability to save configurations into nameable executable programs so, instead of having to find and configure each value individually to open the door, you could instead just click a button and the door would open.

you can get through 1 light/heavy armor block (enough space to get you through the door) with a grinder faster than you can grind through an actual door, so doors are still more efficient than these things.

Your map is probably running as a server, change the maps settings in the "load world" menu to Offline

you should make a ship that had only one entrance and theres gravity generators under the floor and a floating block as the ceiling and if someone tries to breach you can smash them

wow for the first time i made something simpler and easyer then you. pistions are perfict for this job. stack multiple pistions if you need it to open wider. hell break the door into four if you need it to take up less space.

When using these doors on ships or stations, what stops attackers from ignoring the thick doors and instead grinding through the thin door surround? Is the design adapted to include more armour, or is it purely etiquette and roleplay that stops the mechanism void being exploited?

I have a question: i play survival mode in Space Engenieers but i got a problem, when i try to make a small ship, it says i cannot build the ship because i need some crafting objects, BUT when i try to build a big ship it says i could, the thing i don't understand is why i cannot build a small ship even if i got the pieces, can someone help me?

I look at all of these door designs and i think to myself... how practical are these? you would probably be long dead getting out of your ship and opening the door... but good designs none the less.

Nice door system but i don't see the point in having heavy doors if you have paper walls try to make a video showing us basic station concept with these doors. And thanks for your videos, always great, carry on like this.

The first and third doors could easily be built on thicker walls or you could build to accommodate thicker armor where they lift into (or dropped down to). The Second and fourth... Ya those are just over engineered and pretty much useless other then a "Hey look what I built"

Space engineers needs a button that you can assign ship commands to, so you can simply press T while looking at it to run the command.

do u have my problem ? after i make a ship ill put guns then i think what if the guns fail then build doors then i think what if doors fail but more guns then i think if these fall i need escape pods but what if they fail and saw on do u have this issue im always making some sort of back for everything

Sorry if I put in some not so nice feedback... but for the piston door you are making it more complicated than necessary.... first of all, you do not need to use landing gears to get your door fit tight up to your entrance. second, you need to fit the landing gears on the side of the doors of course moving along a "rail". The top or underneath landing gears are unnecessary. it will not move up or down. You might also want to add some extra landing gears in the lock position to lock it into place and secure it in position when it is shut. I got a simple design on the workshop. It took me several attempts to get there... however, the version I am using now at times even works on MOVING !!! large ships and of course completely without problems otherwise. The last one although nice wouldn't work if someone was mining as far as I can tell. Using a rock and gravity to close because don't rocks disappear after so many are generated? You have objects set as 1024 as soon as the 1025th rock is generated from mining the 1st rock you are using for gravity would vanish as far as I understand.

"Piston-like" or "Medieval"...no chance if you would start to accelerate and de-accelerate or spin...hell even rotor mounted parts can go crazy in you spin fast. All depends on speed and angle. Better fuck doors and wait for proper parts/pistons.
