Well, the people have asked and I shall answer. Throwing my stuff against a literal wall of flak to prove a point.
In a real situation, you are very unlikely to have a ship already setup for full flak like this one, and you can increase the range at which the missiles start avoiding for even better results. Beat the slow armored boxes any day!

The way the missiles started weaving within range of the PDCs reminds me of packhound missiles in E:D If only point defense was the main defense system of elite and not massive shield tanks :/ Kind of pointless to carry PDCs when you have a 5,400 MJ shield.

A single vanilla warhead, proximity detonated through cameras and a sensor as backup, made to maximize damage via airburst. This way even if the missile gets hit, it still occupies the turret via its corpse instead of immediately going boom

@@stealthcone After watching that video twice, I'm wondering if the PDC did any damage to the missiles. Even in areas where the missiles were clumped together, the flak did nothing.

I tried to make a bomb for my fighter using 3 vanila warheads using proximity sensor, but i having the feeling they are not exploding even with them armed, is the explosion simply small for small warheads and making me think they not exploding or they realy not working, pls tell me how do it.

How well do they do against "The Brick Ship?" Basically what most people build on vanilla PVP servers, which is a gravity gun in the middle, surrounded by internal hydro thrusters for the most acceleration, surrounded by a cube of heavy armor covered with missile turrets on every surface? My group wants to break up the meta on the vanilla PVP server we play on.

Ah, those things... death to good design i say. These missiles would likely take a long time to go through the armor, at least they would occupy the turrets for a long ass while, but to deal with the frankly disgusting stuff some PvP dudes go into, you mostly need large grid kinetic torpedoes. Don't bother with fancy evasive with those, they can just plow through almost any defenses by just being massive. Just launch a wave of both, with the small missiles occupying the turrets and obscuring the ship to the larger threat. A single good hit is all you need, as armored fragments will then proceed to splatter all across their insides. Even better if there is armor on all sides, since with nowhere to exit, the fragments will just keep bouncing around as the enemy ship tries to maneuver

@@mobiuscoreindustries A drone swarm (50+ drones with 20 gatlings each in a spherical formation around the brick, constantly shooting, slowly chipping away at the armor, that way the torpedoes can slip through while the turrets are distracted. That way, you're less likely to waste resources because the drones that aren't shot down will be able to return to the carrier ship, so they won't be wasted if the brick ship is destroyed before they are.

Just use like 6 (small or large grid, depending on your cappacity to carry them) and like 4 torps and you are going to slap the dude if he does not know how to fly If he goes backward he will likely evade your shots, but at least he won't shoot at you. If he charges you, he will eat the torps and likely die on the spot

Absolutely. Though generally any high speed/long range projectiles such as picket railguns are exceedingly good at missile defense. In the same light lasers absolutely fuck them up.

I can see here that terminal attack maneuvers are possible so rotary cannon firing solid shot is definitely not the answer. Revolver cannon firing flak? Regardless, surface to air missiles, how capable are they with direct impacts? I see here that missiles are difficult to defeat with airburst, so I assume HtK is necessary?

@@sunrisejackdaw1779 Well for player made missiles it depends, massively. Their max speed will vary and depends mostly on the max grid speed on the server. Max range from the missiles also depends, from "turret guidance" of 2km to whatever longest link of intel you can get and fuel to get your missile there (which can go to crazy distances, but at this point it matters little) For projectile velocities what matters most is either self guidance or projectile speed. Laser, Railgun, or some really high velocity cannons can be quite effective especially at hitting missiles during their cruise phase. If you want terminal guidance lasers are probably your best option. movement remains the strongest counter of them all. if you want I have a vid on this channel that goes into some detail

@@thatsclassified1 The missiles are vanilla smallgrid missiles with a script controlling them, seems like just a thruster mod to create the smoke trails on them. The turrets on the defending ship are weaponcore

Interesting video although rarely will you have the perfect ammo or actually catch a ship at a dead stop as normally it will be manoeuvring and trying trying to outrun the missile’s which would draw the engagement out longer and enable more to be shot down

I mean the Galatcica had busted flak XD. Though ironically I am petty sue Galactica never used a single missile despite being outfited with many, appart from that one time where they almost used nukes... but that was, i think, the only time we saw her open her silos. The cylons tho? They do an even worse case of missile spam than me, and they don't seem to care if it is working or not. Maybe I should outfit a Basestar with these custom missiles and see if i can finally beat the Galactica flak screen!

Not going to lie, reavers can make good targets to test things out if they are in the middle of engaging another ship, since they will move more akin to how a player would and are very fast. If they just see you they will literally stare the torps in the face, and players having that mentality usually don't last that long... Or they go modify the server to add energy shields and delete guns, depending on who you ask.

@@AtlasEnthusiast0368 Well no weapon will ever be a magical fix-all unless deliberately making something absurd for the sake of it. This is really just about providing smart options for vanilla weaponry to elevate it to a level where it can comfortably compete in the ballpark of mod weapons. Which is a non trivial thing, mods usually make use of absurd damage and insane speeds, while these little things have to cruise around at speedlimit.

I don't know if this is a mod or a build but this is another level of missles space engineers. I bet these are very dangerous to have in the game and very effective to take down ships using these with continuous firepower.

Its a build, though I often use a modded weapon as a means to get targetting info more reliably than the base game LIDAR. They are a VERY effective but somewhat niche weapon system. In the broad lines, they cna do a great ammount of damage to structure, ranging from small grids doing small to decent damage and large grids doing from great to insane damage, but it really depends where the missile hits. When it comes to going through defenses they will either be really good or completely useless, so is the case for intercepting moving and dodging targets, but this can be fixed with design though it means sacrificing some elements of the weapon in the process (like making it bigger, more expensive, cutting on mass to get more thrust, adding more armor at the expense etc). They aslo obey diffrent laws as weapons which can be good and bad. usually for speed it means bad as weaponcore often has a minimum velocity of 800m/s at the slowest, while missiles will fly at the speed limit, same as ships, which makes just outrunning them an easy thing. But on the flipside you aslo free yourself from the constraints of modded weapons such as maximum range, payload or being forced to rely on an inadequate priority system to decide what turrets will shoot at. If you have something locking 2/3 targets and the fuel/time to get something there, you can shoot at them. On a private expanse style server with a really high speed limit I got a silo on a planet to shoot a nuclear missile at a ship 1200km away while this ship was under acceleration. Speed mod was sort of required for the missile not to take an absurd time to get there and exhaust its fuel however.

It would, of course, though It really depends on a lot of factors. Hitting a speed cap will make these weapons have a hard time catching you unless you eventually get on a vector they can intercept. Going backwards from where the tops are is the best option, but that also can benefit a smart player since that is essentially forcing someone back and away from their weapon range. If you go towers the tops usually this will result in what experts call "a bad time". Mobility is a complex topic, one i will have to treat as separate from the static defences portion of player made weapons

Chose any flak/DU rounds in absurd quantity and you have a good counter for these small missiles. Lasers like the AWP grav laser are also pretty strong. But saying that a mod weapons is made to counter PMW is not easy. Because player made weapons aren't fixed to a set of premade values, a smart engineer can upgrade his weapons to be less affected. Grav lasers have bonus damage on exposed components, so i use the extra space left on the missile to give them a layer of armor to absorb the hits. I can add a blast door so the missiles do a little bit of kinetic damage, even if it's really small, when destroyed. You can use combat drones to occupy turrets before the missiles arrive, or use large grid, etc... It's a flowing weapon system and everyone will have their own definition of what I'd best. Whiplash will tell you, for example, that 2x2 hydrogen is the best because it has the best acceleration, some will say 3x3 because you can shove a lot of warheads, I like 1x3 because I can shove 4 per welder on a proper sprue design. Subtle variety that often means understanding your enemy Is paramount to countering him. A dynamic really not present in vanilla or modded fights where the lines are drawn mostly on vehicle size.

I've always wanted to get around to making some basic torpedos and semi-dumb rockets but I'm kind of seeing how I could make some more advanced stuff. It's interesting too because thinking about it I think the starcore tournaments were having trouble with player made weapons for the reasons you were talking about. Either way, idk if you'll see this but thanks for the reply.

@@AweEmperorofChickenKilling You can sent a number of small missiles. I send six missiles, weld another six and launch them. Then launch two heavy missiles. The first six are 4 HE and 2 decoy. The next six are the same. Then the two big missiles are just big HE bombs. Even with lots of AAA, the two heavy missiles hit. They are enough to damage the outer but not the inner secondary hull. The best way to stop missiles, is welders/projectors, heavy block, gyro, and then heavy block. The welders and projectors will repair all three hull layers but this cost lots of materials and their needed storage. You can only do this over the front arc of your ship. Armour like you are a tank. Then use decoys to force enemy fire to the most armoured front. Player missiles can hit anywhere you can see, so just keep the front arc to the enegy ship. Really big ships can launch very big missiles. Like little ships. These can clip through the hull if the 100m/s speed limit is removed and can do lots of internal damage. There is a script that you can get to make the missiles lock onto the target and use AI pathfinding to the target. Just like moming missiles. The best setup is to print the missiles and launch them outside the front arc were incoming fire will hit. This way the open hull wont allow fire into the missile bay. There is a big ship blueprint that has one big missile that fires from the front. You can snipe it when the door opens and destroy the whole missile bay and wreck the inside of the ship. So its best to fire from somewhere on the ship that is hard to hit. So all those bombs inside the ship are not hit. The video is the right way to fire the missiles. I wonder if he has to aim them the same way I do. The video is great. All my ships are box of death designs, that are well armoured but look like complete crap.

I have purposeses for flak ships. my AI Engineers mod's PBR faction will randomly attack with fighters, and block missiles from long range/mid range ships, along with the fighters being equipped with the missiles. ontop of this the engineers build this stuff themselves. also what is the thruster FX mod you are using for those block missiles?

Glad you are interested. Mod for the trails is RocketFX by Klime. It can be optionally added to a thruster via the terminal menu and comes with many ways to customize its apearance (along with variants like flame(no trail) and afterburner)

I didn't save it after the test. It was a pretty ugly modification anyways that cut through some airtight layers and other things. Would have made it survival unfriendly

Well vanilla small grid warheads. Good thing they don't do too much damage, people already had enough of an aneurysm over kinetic devastation. Despite the fact that evasive mode greatly diminishes a missile's ability to track, making it far, far easier to dodge

It's weaponcore, everything depends on what the mod is thinking best to engage. It's not like DDS, i am not sure if weapncore makes a conscious effort to not throw everything in the same basket.

This one is called Phantom Hit, its a royalty free music from streambeats, adn the genre is called "synthwave". Gotta use those a bit more since youtube is being angry for me using carpenter brut music in the recent vids

It's from a mod called RocketFX. Yeah, the realism and practicality of it is dubious. If anything it makes the voleys more visible and easier to react to. But also it makes this so much better to look at and also quite a bit more readable.

I mean correct in a way, exhaust in space expands extremely rapidly out of the engine nozzle. However, rule of cool applies. Normally they run clean, meaning absolutely zero visible exhaust. This is great because spotting the things becomes a lot harder but it will make it considerably more jarring and unimpressive despite none of the other factors being changed

Well the script right now is in heavy development, so it is for now still private. As a result I also cannot share any ship equiped with the AKI mainframe. This however will be rectified once the script hits the workshop, where I will try my best to give example ships and ready-made modules to plop on ships.

It's a script currently still in development. Currently called the AKI mainframe. You have a HUD using a transparent LCD and it will do a bunch of stuff for you, such as share info between ships, keep track of ammo, control missiles, control drones, hell it can even take over your ship entirely in the form of the combat autopilot

It's a mod called RocketFx, by klime. It's good, not really needed unless you need to achieve a very specific visual. I use it for cinematics because missiles are, by their very design, incredibly hard to spot and track. It's entirely by intention, one of the things I noted is that it is incredibly easy to lose a torpedo during evasive and think you dodged it completely, only to have it come from an angle a human would not have predicted. This script when using evasive mode takes that to the next level with torps that will intentionally fake going to someone else before veering into intercept

The target ship use Northwind weapons and MCRN PDCs, the attacker ship uses only a cosmetic mod (Klime's rocketFX mod for the trails) and otherwise only uses vanilla parts.

@@Frost_Violent honestly i am really not good with actually building ships, just their systems. One of the things I tend to do is hunt for hulls i like on the workshop, either because of their functions and design features of because they just look cool. Then i open them up, tear down or move everything i don't like or need and replace it with custom weapons, drives, etc...

Башни с линкоров 40-х годов смотрятся мегауморительно и нелепо :) Даже современные ракеты умнее, чем на видео. В безвоздушном пространстве ракета получает бесконечное ускорение - чем дольше она летит, тем выше её скорость.

These are custom, vanilla missiles (appart from the exhaust, which is a mod), named basilisk (because of their numbers, shooting one down just means more are on the way). They are a 1x1x6 missile connected using a hinge (a temporary setback until keen adds a small connector so i can swap to merge+connector) meaning that they are insanely compact and space efficient. You can fit 3 of them inside a single vanilla welder sphere of influence, and 5 if you are willing to anger clang in the process. Damage against large targets isn't their primary goal, they are there to apply constant pressure on vessels of any size, and distract their guns from more important targets. They are also very cheap for the damage they can cause, though not as effective as large grid missiles for obvious reasons

Missile "dance" to avoid PD and AMS fire ? . . . Nothing knew, well at least for USSR/RUSSIA nothing knew, anti-ship missiles can do just that to pierce almost any defence with 87% hit chance per missile under strong PD/AMS fire, without ? 100% !!!
