I agree, £300 is obscene for any tank (unless it's as big as a Titan).

Thank you for the great review, you have done a splendid job of putting it together and the magnetisation is cool. If you don't mind me asking, where did you pick this kit up, was it a pre-release version from Warhammer Fest back in June or as part of the main retail release a few weeks back? I ask as I had 2 separate kits from the retail release and the casting quality was very disappointing so I ended up getting a refund. Looking at your kit I can see the casting quality is much better than the examples I got. I'd love to have the Mastodon as it an amazing piece, but I won't spend hours and hours of work putting right mould slips and airbubbles. Cheers!

You're welcome. Thanks for your kind words. Not at all, I pre-ordered the model from FW's website when it was up for general release. I did not pick it up at Warhammer fest. I think those events are cool (community, meeting the team, looking at displays, book signings etc) but against GW baiting their consumers to be able to purchase a model before release. That's disappointing to hear about your casts. Mine was fine, other than the usual bending of barrels etc. The sides and doors were difficult to line up. The resin was fine in quality though. I think I only used a little bit of green stuff near the back door and did not have any serious mould slippage issues. Glad you got a refund and hope you get a perfect one some day. If you're in the UK it might be better to visit the HQ and purchase one in person that way you can check. Understand it your experience with your casts puts you off. Anyway hope that helps.

I think that goes without saying. It's a damned sight better than being sent something for free to review or being paid to review something. Hi. You're welcome. Thanks for your kind words. The magnets used for both the sponsons and the main top turret were 10mm dia x 2mm thick 1.6kg pull. You could get away with 1mm thick for the sponsons and 1kg pull.

Thank you Tim. I would be happy to make another review with 8th edition rules taken from one of the FW books. That was the plan from the beginning but then I decided to cover all new releases which kind of got in the way of my initial plans for content. There are new 8th edition rules for all of the FW kits coming soon within the next few months. With this being said would you still like a current rule update video now?

I always go for the maximum pull in the size I need. That way I'm never disappointed.

Daniel Hartshorne I used small disc magnets and measured them based on the holes I drilled. I bought them from first4magnets. Can’t recommend them enough.

Kenny Hempson 10mm x 2mm. You could use 5mm x 1mm if you like though depending on pull.

I never paint on sprue but I suppose you could ready the parts and paint them sub assembly. But then you may run the risk of super glue burn or the parts not fitting. Using a heat gun or hairdryer post paint may damage the work. The guys at the very popular blog, battle bunnies, painted post full assembly. It would also be easier to airbrush the model so there is that option. I freehand so I'm used to holding Reaver titan legs and painting them. With the Mastodon I'll paint as much as I can with the model sat on the desk. Then I'll tip it on it's side and continue. There shouldn't be many times I have to hold the entire model to apply paint. - also most of the detail is on the removable top portion of the model.

just thought you'd miss some details when the hull is assembled as I can imagine it being used as a bunker and you'd have to paint the interior as well as the exterior

To represent it being collapsed on the model. Void shields can be powered up too so if it loses both you can roll to get them back. You may not get either of them back. I magnetise the void shields on all my models and many people have been doing this since 2005.

Both. Forge World are Games Workshop. Forge World are a studio created by GW, have the same staff and are located at the same location. They only make their models out of resin, as opposed to plastic.

As a consumer, wouldn’t it be nice if this was produced in plastic and sold at a more reasonable/affordable price? I get that it being expensive is what makes it exclusive and rare.. but i just cant help to get shocked at FW’s prices.

OfficialMINIm If I didn’t have one I’d work harder or smarter to afford one. If I have lots of bills or kids then I would accept responsibility for my life choices and not expect the world to owe me anything. Sure I would love a Ferrari but I won’t moan about the price of them or expect them to make them more affordable. These are luxury products within an expensive hobby at the end of the day. Everyone does not need a Mastadon.
