orgmode will be awesome. I am using spacemacs and orgmode , totally sold. But can't find as many tutorial videos like yours which are clear as I would like to send to other people.
Python programming in relation with spacemacs would be good , not a basic python tutorial (there are tons and tons on youtube already). But ROS , deep learning and computer vision with python (or another language) would be awesome!! I3 would be cool too.
Love to see how spacemacs does autocompletion and snippets...and also setting up custom commands like how you would set up your vimrc (I like to use "ii" to escape insert mode etc...) thanks again, you make really good videos, I am glad to be able to go on this spacemacs journey with you.

Thanks! Vim is another test editor. Spacemacs by default runs on the same key bindings/text editing style as vim. It takes a fair bit of effort to learn that shortcuts but they are worth it.
Really enjoying the video, I'm relatively new to Linux and I've been loving spacemacs so far. Your video did a great job of giving the bare minimums while also introducing a ton handy features I simply wasn't aware of yet. Awesome job! Happily subscribed.
As a vim user and wanting to try org-mode (which has had a lot of hype) and wanting to learn (I am semi-retired so I get the luxury of doing self-projects) some lisps - clojure and racket etc. I wanted to move to emacs so spacemacs was a boon to me. I have been doing a lot of flying by the seat of my pants - so ending up using emacs "chords" so it is useful to see and watch some of the vim and spacemacs bindings working.
What?! This is your first video? Great work! I enjoyed this so much. I'm curious to know. What's your opinion of VS Code? There's an extension to bring SpaceMacs keykindings to VS Code. It would be great to see a review or comparison on that as well as highlighting some Emacs plugins that don't exist or are not yet mature on VS Code. I open to be tempted back over to the Emacs side.
Thank you for you kind words. I very much like VSCode. At the time I switched to Spacemacs all my colleagues were going to VSCode. I've used the extension you're referring to (also the one for atom and sublime) and thought it came very close to Spacemacs proper. The only plugin/extension I can think of that don't exist or are not yet mature (imo) would be: magit, helm-ag-edit, and org.

On emacs now but I definitely will take a close look at spacemacs. I hope spacemacs is more responsive. Nevertheless even though I only use a tiny portion of Emacs I feel it's incredibly powerful and getting very used to it. I somehow start to enjoy the unique concept more and more.
Those are minor modes.They describe things like "automatic parentheses completion is enables" and stuff like that. I almost never have a need to look at / parse them and figured getting into them was too hairy for an intro video. Thank you so much for the sub. Will be posting new videos very soon.
Hi, could you please do an video on using orgmode with spacemacs? Actually I was wondering if you can help me with something ---- whenever I use tags in orgmode and then try and filter the todo list using these tags, spacemacs crashes, how do I solve this probelm?
I've unfortunately never run into that problem. What's the crash message? If you don't see one maybe run Emacs from the terminal and see if anything gets printed in the terminal when it crashes. I'm almost finished with my org video :)

There's a package called centaur-tabs that's probably the most mature tabbing solution out there. Check that out (I might cover it in a future video). Emacs 27 also has native tabs support so that should start showing up in future versions of Spacemacs. Thanks for watching, please share with any you might think may be interested.
Thanks for the great introduction to Spacemacs! You got me into it :D The only thing that's been annoying me is this bad-looking PowerLine/SpaceLine (7:46) like layout is broken. It really does distract... :c Is there a fix for that issue? Changing the default theme doesn't set it right, based on my experience.
Oh, now that I know the name I found the fix: "1.8 The powerline separators are ugly, how can I fix them? Use the property :powerline-scale of the variable dotspacemacs-default-font. " More info: spacemacs.org/doc/DOCUMENTATION.html#font. Gotta check it out tomorrow!
why we are use cat .spacemacs and less .spacemacs commands? By default, the '~ / .emacs.d' folder should be run in the directory or is the '~ / spacemacs' folder more appropriate?
You probably still have your .emacs file. This file stops emacs from looking inside .emacs.d (where spacemacs is located) on startup so it just runs the default config instead. To fix this, simply delete `.emacs` by typing `sudo rm ~/.emacs` into your terminal. I hope this helps anyone in the future.
I'm not entirely sure. I think it's a special option in the standard XFCE terminal. This is not my usual setup it was a VM I made for this specific video.
While running this tutorial (after I removed the emacs.d directory) I got some errors attempting to install Spacemacs from the Master branch (it crashed attempting to configure itself). It took me a while to figure out how to get around these errors. (in Linux) Navigate to your: emacs.d directory : "cd ~/.emacs.d" Open a terminal there. Use Git to checkout the developer branch: "git checkout develop" Then relaunch emacs. It might clear up your error. He indicates in the video that he had to do the same thing but didn't say how he accomplished it. :-) HTH
I learned entirely from the Spacemacs docs and have deep respect for those that create and maintain it. Writing good documentation is hard work and maintaining it is even more difficult, especially when you're not getting paid. Showing people how to do something is infinitely easier (but essentially impossible to maintain).
@@JackofSome right I agree but why leave something on a development Branch for a year? Linkapps hasn't been supported for a while but it's still their recommended process. If you're going to maintain something you should maintain the docs too or at least specify that there are known issues instead of having us find out via GitHub issues.
@@JackofSome yes that is also nice.. I usually am on a laptop key working with colemak dh/iso and switched some keys especially the right alt is now my nav key.. holding it reverts hjkl haha :D
Sweet. Yeah the feedback is why I try to keep some of it. For my latest video I recorded the video portion separately from the voiceover giving me full control over the sound of the keyboard. Gonna experiment with that to find the sweet spot.
Sadly... In seriousness, should be no different from using it in Linux for the most part. Obviously you need to set up xforwarding if you want a window, and you might have troubles sharing clipboards.
