Edit: SpaceX EVA suits are not designed by Axiom. I misspoke. I apologize!
SpaceX will attempt the first commercial spacewalk in less than a month.
The Polaris Dawn mission aims to hit several major milestones, like traveling 800 miles above Earth, using Starlink internet in space, and completing the first private commercial spacewalk, outfitted with EVA suits designed for SpaceX.

Seeing this EVA suit and being told its real life is absolutely unreal. Comparing the Spacex suit to the ones NASA uses is like comparing a winter coat to a t shirt. The fact that this works, its this much lighter/thinner and has such a simple design (from an outside glance) is just mind blowing. Honestly I wont believe this is real until I see Spacex actually do the EVA mission. It feels like im watching a Sci-Fi movie

The problems are with the control thrusters, while you can make adjustments for one or even two being down, with 75% failure and the last leak equal to a thruster this means they have no idea if they can control the craft for deorbit or reentry. Without control you can't aim the heat shield to shield the craft or make sure your even going the right way. With uncontrolled thrust from a leak possible it may be impossible to even hit a useable reentry window. I would not board any craft with known control issues, might as well take a car on the interstate at speed without a steering wheel and with firecrackers inside the tires filled with oxygen then try to drive from LA to NYC. This is not going to end well.

Well that is exactly what Tesla autopilot is. A federal report published today found that Tesla's Autopilot system was involved in at least 13 fatal crashes in which drivers misused the system in ways the automaker should have foreseen-and done more to prevent. Not only that, but the report called out Tesla as an “industry outlier” because its driver assistance features lacked some of the basic precautions taken by its competitors. Now regulators are questioning whether a Tesla Autopilot update designed to fix these basic design issues and prevent fatal incidents has gone far enough. These fatal crashes killed 14 people and injured 49, according to data collected and published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the federal road-safety regulator in the US.

In my opinion, the problem with how NASA & Boeing are faltering and being somewhat evasive, in their descriptiona and explanations about Starliner problem, is that the press interviews are not being done by technical and development managers, who may not special in a rechnical field. They're accountanta and business administrators, who want to downplay the problems as indeterminate, but are being evaluated. (In other words, they don't want engineers and technicians telling the media too much.) It feels like Challenger debacle all over again: 'Bean counters' trying to order rocket engineers what to do.

@myyklmax The only leaks they don't have is the truth.
@Kr0N05
@Kr0N05 22 дня назад
Being formerly a 'Technical' person I can say that because the technical people are so far removed from the actual hardware that any information given out would be based on the probability of a problem being in a certain system after weighing all the available evidence. And so it would come off as speculation ..... and the press would run with that and come up with huge divergent swings of speculation. In a situation like this, Boeing is between a rock and a hard place as far as trying to succinctly give a direct answer. But this valve problem has cropped it's head before, and because it hasn't been fixed that would suggest that restraints have been put on the technical people as to how far and how expensive their efforts should be in trying to nail down this problem, and so some Head technical guy (or gal) caved in and told their managers what they wanted to hear. knowing full well that further expensive testing was required.

The Spacewalk on the Polaris mission will be similar to the Gemini space walks. It will require a tether. It will require that the spacecraft be depressurized. It will DEPEND on the ability to get a good reseal on the hatch after the EVA, or else the crew will have to remain in their space suits until landing. At the altitude that the crew will be, there will be increased radiation. It will be interesting to see if the EVA astronaut has similar problems as the Gemini space walkers with overheating. ISS spacesuits use water cooling to deal with the extra heat from exertion of fighting with a fully pressurized suit while trying to do actual work outside the spacecraft. The SpaceX suits are more like the Gemini models in that they use air flow to take away heat. This may be inadequate. I was dismayed at the ignorance of all the Elon Fanboys who claimed that the SpaceX suits are "so much more advanced" than the previous models developed over the last 60 years. It just goes to show that since the current generation does not learn history when it it is put in front of them, and they certainly don't READ anything any more, we are in a new Dark Age when we will have to learn things all over again that people learned in previous generations. We definitely need a cultural shift for people to have a little more respect for experts in scientific fields. The "democratization" of information has made everyone think any idiot is a "genius" or an "expert."

Use soyuz in emergency ? It's been good enough till now.

Difficult to start asking favours from a space program that can barely function at present due to their government being effectively globally isolated after invading another sovereign nation. “Could you send up the next or an additional Soyuz with only one cosmonaut on board to bring back two of our astronauts?” Not likely to happen if it is even possible for Russia to provide.

 Ahh, so nothing to do with America's behaviour towards Russia then.

@@briandeschene8424That would be doing Roscosmos a favour. They would literally swim through hydrazine to be seen as NASA's salvation

 I'm having to swim thru' patriotic propaganda here ... Soyuz is in current use (mabe not launch ready this weekend 😊) with a capsule currently docked with ISS as lifeboat and I see US astronaut was launched to ISS as recently as March 25th 2023 and on April 6th one brought Loral O'Hara safely back to earth. So it seems that some cooperation continues and those pesky Europeans in Russia are cheerfully space bound after all. I know its some sort of national day in the US but maybe a bit less jingoism and fiery war talk. Is Ellie on a retainer from Mr Musk or is this trumpet blowing just hero worship ? Happy 4th of July anyway 🎉🎉

I think NASA’s statement is perfect. No, it isn’t trustworthy to return to Earth, but in an emergency, where staying on the station would kill you, Starliner is a much better choice.

Comparing the suits is ridiculous! The NASA ISS suits are completely self contained! The oxygen, cooling, electronics etc are part of the EVA suit. The SpaceX suit is not that at all. The astronauts will be tethered to the Crew Dragon the entire time. The SpaceX suit is more like updated Gemini program tethered suits from the 1960s. Note well, all the publicity images and renderings don’t show the tether or minimize it in a way to keep it nearly hidden. Ignoring that or pretending the suits are similar in function is disingenuous. Talk about bad reporting to the general public.

Very interesting, I hadn't realised that but it does explain why the suit isn't so huge. Also it seems like a more simple solution, it's not like they need to get miles away from the ship.

@@chrisofnottingham No one needs to get “miles away”. Tethered suits did work on Skylab for EVAs but they were minimal. Tethered suits would not work on the ISS - it’s just too big with a lot of exposed structural elements. My minor gripe is that the reporting of SpaceX suits (by SpaceX and including this report) don’t mention the difference.

@@executivesteps I'm totally with you on misleading comparisons. mb SpaceX see this as a stepping stone design on the way to ultimately having integrated life support

Not a good look... Billionaires flying around in space, while the population can't afford food and rent. I appreciate what Elon is doing, especially with regard to Starlink, but damn, not a great look here.

Poverty, religion, and superstition is the default human condition. This is the best look imaginable. Cave men would be exited to see what their descendants have achieved. Even the poorest people in America are often fatter than they are tall. And sit around wasting their existence in posh luxury with their AC on watching reality TV with a bag of Cheetos paid for by an EBT card they will never contribute a red cent toward.

Hello Sir, I Visited your RU-vid channel and noticed it ranks lower than others. SEO seems to be lacking, though your content is fantastic. Wondering why your videos aren't attracting more views? One key factor is insufficient SEO (your videos' SEO score is 29/100%, that's why your video is not reaching out to the people and you do not have many subscribers, views, likes, watch time, and comments. I also noticed that your video thumbnail was good. If you'd like, I can assist you with improving it. I think your RU-vid channel will make your dream come true. I am waiting for your response.
