A little bit of Don Quixote land for this week's hike. A place I have been to quite a few times in the past but it certainly never gets old. It was nice to come back and capture it and absorb it, in a different way, to really soak in the environment.🧘♂️
Don Quixote de la Mancha was a novel written by the Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. It's about a noble called Alonso Quixano who read far too many chivalic romances that he flips and becomes a knight-errant.🤺 He even believes that the windmills were giants and that they were turned into windmills by a magician named Friston and so fights them.🧙♂️
I've never read this book but having lived in Toledo for many years, would hear so much about it. Interestingly, both Cervantes and Shakespeare lived and died around the same time while both, of course, had great passion for the theatre and wrote plays.👨💻
The castle that sits among the windmills is steeped in history and provides spectacular views as far as the eye can see. So much more I could say but I'm not wanting to bore you with too much history lol.🤓 Links to further research I will leave in the description box on my channel. Anyway, Consuegra, also has huge cultivations of saffron and celebrates the Saffron Festival every year in late October. Also, I should add that each of the windmills has a unique name that's taken from the novel of Don Quixote. The one that I gravitated towards the most is called Chispas🙂
