Hola Maria y Cody! Muchas gracias por sus vídeos, de verdad me han ayudado tanto. Llevo tres años estudiando español desde casa y ahora puedo hablar y entender español bastante bien. Mi español no es perfecto siempre, pero estoy muy contento con mi desarrollo. Para responder sus preguntas, me imagino que ese árbol tiene al menos 100 años, quizás 200 o más! Y sí, toco la guitarra desde hace 16 años. Muchas gracias otra vez, sus vídeos me ponen muy contento!

Maria, I liked the short video tour of Ibaqué and would like to see more of colombia that way if you can afford it. There is one phrase that at the end of of the video that I did not understand clearly. You and Cody were on an elevated structure overlooking the city and you both looked up and to your right, presumably maybe at an airplane that was flying over? Maria, you said something that the cc transcribed as “y mira ahorita eres”, which I find to be interesting spanish construction. It might have made more sense to me if I could understand clearly what you actually said; but I couldn’t, even at a playback speed of .75% of normal. Perhaps the cc transcription is in error (as I suspect)? If so, what is a correct transcription of what you said? If not, how would you translate “y mira no eres” into English? Thank you. You remain my favorite online spanish teacher!

They both are 'to be' verbs. It depends on the context. Así son mis hermanos (That's how my siblings are... [permanent]). If I want to be mentioning something I deem as unlikely to change). Así están mis mascotas (implying that is how they are [temporary/ at the moment). After maybe mentioning that they are sick or living in a certain way, but it isn't intended for long. So for example you say to me "Mis perros están con mi prima mientras estoy de vacaciones. Yo puedo decir: Así están los perros de mi prima. Están conmigo mientras mi prima esta en Turquía por vacaciones. (That's how my cousin's dogs are. They are with me while my cousin is in Turkey for vacation). Así está bien >>> It's good like that [when speaking about what the other person is doing... serving you a drink/ food/ preparing something & you're letting them know it's good to that level or point that they just completed]. This setting is temporary. Perhaps the person lowered or raised the volume of the radio or tv, or A.C. etc. "Así es" is more for something that is, or always will be a certain way. "Así es la vida" >>> That's life ... Life will always be hard, so we use "es". ¿Cómo es Madrid? >> What is Madrid like? / ¿Cómo es su mama? For things related to personality or characteristics use a conjugation of the verb "ser". Remember "ser" is used for things considered 'permanent' even though some things on the category can be deemed 'changeable' (like your profession). ______________________________________________________________ These verbs are important because they DO affect meaning if misunderstood or not used right ¿Cómo es la fiesta? >> What is the party [going to be] like?/ What type of party is it? ¿Cómo está la fiesta? >> How's the party going (right now)?
