Good tips! The way you drive makes a huge difference too. My 5 speed D17A2 powered 05 Civic sedan gets me around 46-47 MPG average and my best tanks were around 50 MPG. That's with a Crower stage 1 camshaft, D16Y8 intake manifold, K24A4 fuel injectors, K20Z1 throttle body, custom cold air intake, cat delete, 2.25 inch eBay exhaust, Flowmaster muffler, and a few other little mods like electric power steering, lightweight alloy wheels, and coilovers. Great setup for a daily driver IMO. It's quick enough to be fun and I can still get better MPG than most people do driving hybrids.
@SRDmotorsports
@SRDmotorsports 2 года назад
Oh man!!!!! your set up spells "efficiency" ! i def agree on driving and I believe if most will visualize how the tune looks? and realize the dyno curve like pretend to dyno it to 40% throttle all thru out? they will see exactly what you mentioned... but then we see em' since theyre trying to conserve fuel they lug it low rpms? smh I like the crower stage1 move you did and my goodness on a CAI + that 94.4mm stroke... that thing prolly is snappy responsive and its by accident one could drive it and not save on fuel consumption 🤣 like i mean they gotta try HARD to make it consume more if ever theyd prolly fail and it would still have good fuel consumption 🤣
@averyalexander2303
@averyalexander2303 2 года назад
Unfortunately its still running on a stock ECU for now, I could probably do a bit better if I could tune it. It's hard to get actually bad MPG out of that setup though. I still get nearly 40 MPG going 70+ MPH with the AC on and flooring it every time I take off. The worst MPG I ever got out of that setup was 26 MPG and that was when I was using it to tow my other Civic 600+ miles home through huge mountains with the AC on the whole way which is still way better than I expected. I thought I would be lucky to get 20 MPG that trip lol
@SRDmotorsports
@SRDmotorsports 2 года назад
@@averyalexander2303 hahahaha thats what i was saying it seems its gonna be hard to intentionally get bad mpg and theyd still accidentally get good mpg lol! hmmm maybe an oldschool safc/vafc if u find in the marketplace? u could prolly adapt it and wire it well enough to have "minimal tweaks" but that minimal could be huge

@SRDmotorsports 2 года назад
sorry for the late reply... i commented on your other message with "this" if your k20 is in a crv? and also if it isnt an Iridium type of plug, a gap of 0.045" might be more than good which is a tad more than the pregapped Ngk BkR6 of 0.042-0.044 which we saw can be sometimes already tighter than expected... The K20 coil on plug has more reserved energy since each plug has a coil so it could do even better than most :) on Iridium plugs though its harder to gap it so damage might be done more than good, there are videos on how to gap them but you can also just "try" a non iridium plug like NGK bkr6 :)

Here's a little out of the box idea. It's nothing new or groundbreaking as it's been done many times, however it's still not as common. Grounding upgrades. I've seen my oem ground wire from my valve cover to the chassis and it's pretty flimsy, not to mention it's probably been there since factory so my plan is to replace every grounding wire (it should be around 4 wires) and maybe run 1 2 extra with 4-8 gauge wire (factory is 14 gauge if i am not mistaken) in hopes to make my electrical system more efficient. People note that your starter works better, your lights don't dim as much in idle and just in general the car works smoother. Better reading from sensors, smoother idle, better TPS readouts. It's more about longevity and efficiency than making power. However, with all being said to me it's a must have upgrade especially if you want to run aftermarket ecu or just want to re-map the car as you will get a better and more precise readout on your sensors. It's as they say, never trust things you read on the internet, always doubt especially when there are conflicting pov's in the forums. But it should be easy to do as it's a fairly simple DIY and sourcing cables and connectors is rather cheap actually. It's an interesting topic and look forward to giving it a shot, whether I notice something or not, just maintenance wise replacing old crappy wires and hopefully improving electrical longevity is fine by me.
