That's just an issue from worn out valve cover gasket, specifically the spark plug tube o rings which are part of the valve cover gasket set. Always remove the oil from the tube BEFORE removing the spark plug so that you don't get oil drip down to the top of the piston. As far as the spark plug goes, the ones the put in their are the upgraded version, same heat range, but that was the laser cut version, costs more than the regular iridium but the laser cut version is slightly more efficient. No catastrophic issue here. Valve cover gasket set runs about $15 bucks, and 1 hour install time max. Probably change the PCV valve at the same time or at least check and clean it.
@@wesfields9322 if everything goes perfectly it can be 20 minutes but for someome that has never done it before it can and many times does take longer than that. Especially if they run in to some issues during the process.
@@23soccerFTW14 Yup worn out spark plug tube o-rings. First get all of the oil out of the spark plug tube. You can use a turkey baster for that or an automotive fuel/oil extractor. Once all of the oil is removed you are then good to take out the spark plugs, remove the entire valve cover and install a new valve cover gasket kit.
Bad valve cover gasket causes this issue the gasket is aligned around the spark plugs when the gasket is damaged it seeps oil into the spark plug chamber easy fix and inexpensive clean out oil from spark plug chambers replace gasket tighten down valve cover bolts in sequence and torque to spec replace correct spark plugs and good to go
@@Viper-sn5cx yep eaither valve cover gasket and or valve cover o ring. Your can look and see if the o ring is flush with the spark plug tube. To clean the oil out use a rag and skinny extension and blot it out till it's dry..
I agree with couple of people probably just spark plugs gaskets leaking. Blow out the oil and replace spark plug gasket. It happened on my car. You just remove the valve cover and replace spark plug gasket.
I would hardly call a leaking valve cover gasket catastrophic, no big deal at all. Same thing with wrong sparkplugs, Japanese engines are very robust and as long as it runs well no issue at all.
@michael konstantinovich bordwell I work on motorcycles and when the Honda CBR 1000R first came out the factory spark plugs were dual electrode NGK (sorry forget the exact part#) that cost $67 EACH from the dealer. Guess who bought them? Nobody... As long as they are in the same heat range and have the correct reach they will work just peachy. You might be replacing them a lot more often and coils as well but the engine will run just fine with them. This gentleman who made the video makes it appear a leaking valve cover gasket wrecked the motor.
What if I got some oil down a spark plug? I thought I got all of it out but some went down the spark plug so now it still runs like poop.. smoked for a little but seen that is normal … stopped smoking the light blue mush but still runs bad…?!

how did you clean the oil under the spark plug? I took out my spark plug and it seems like the oil is burned there and how should I clean it? any suggestion
I have a question to ask you. I have a 2008 Audi A4 quattro convertible 2.0. I for some stupid reason put to much oil because on the engine dipstick said it needed or stupid me didn't see well the oil reading on the dipstick anyways I had an overfilling of oil and didn't know till I see alot of white smoke coming out of my tailpipes. I took it to the mechanic and he told me it was overfilled with oil and that was the reason why white smoke was coming out. Just like you found oil on the coils and spark plugs I decided to check one of my coils and I found some oil on the bottom. I didn't remove the spark plug to see. The oil found can it be because of the previous over flow of oil? I want to change my spark plugs and coils. I have everything to do it but the little oil found on the bottom of the coil kinda stop me from putting new spark plugs and coils. Can I try to remove the remaining oil left with a rag? Can I still install the spark plugs and coils? I really wanted to do this tune up.
Cool video...just got a question. Is it better to clean the oil out of the spark plug well before removing the spark plug so the oil doesn't drain into the opening?
Hello and good day. It sounds like your stressing the point how important spark plugs are. If they are not properly gapped can they cause engine vibration and surging?
Great video and content. I have been a fan since you first moved into your shop. I think you would love my 1997 Toyota 4Runner with 268000 miles, everything original. I would be honored to have you work on my car. You could use it for your videos. I'm also in California (Long Beach). Please let me know what city your shop is located. You can message me personally if you like...
Awesome will u be my mechanic I totally trust u that's soo hard to find nobody cares anymore thank you you good man what state u live or work my car needs help same problem
If you just pull the plug, oil will drain into the cylinder. Be sure to cover the plug holes to prevent oil splatter, spin the engine over a few times before installing the plugs or you'll break a piston or rod.
Any chance you can elaborate? I have a jeep that had the same problem. it was too late before realizing the oil had dripped down after removing he plug. What happens?
@@charr4689 before I took out the plugs, I soaked it down with brake cleaner n took a piece of cost hunger and tried to pull out oil BEFORE taking plugs out. I never heard of breaking stuff but if it filled a piston full enough if might thrash something...
Today when i driving i start feel that my engine is stutter in full throttle with no power at all and it was scary in up hill when i tried to pass slow truck, of course the check engine light has on . so i drive cautiously in half throttle use to the dealer service and the mechanic say i need new valve cover gasket, also the oil leak damaged the spark plugs, spark plugs coils and spark wire that swapped too.
I had that problem of lack of power up a gentle incline... Fuel injectors MAY be the problem and got new rebuilt ones that are warranted.... about $130 shipped... and I found my symptoms were from an old (and now replaced) intake manifold gasket (leaked air after the MAFS already had measured the air going by it...). An old car will have gaskets fail eventually.... see?
Doug H. in VA That’s the problem with old cars, when something happens with engine you start replace parts until fixing the issue or until you decide take the car to junkyard... I pay for my fix a 300 (US) dollars for issue started in 2017. Car itself worth 1,500 dollars... Last week is the second time it happened to me.
Great contents...👍 in this case what are you suppose to do in order to stop the oil from flooding inside the spark plug Chamber? At the end of your video l was expecting you to tells us the fix of this particular the problem except from the fact that you mentioned OEM spark plugs at end of your Video!!
If oil is leaking from the top of the valve cover, where the coil seal is, why isn't there oil stains down the inside wall of the coil tubes? Is it possible oil is coming from the bottom of the coil tube, where it's attached to the head? Pull all the plugs, then spin the engine over to ensure pistons blow all oil out of the cylinders. Oil is not compressible so if the plug is pulled without removing the oil, and the oil runs into the cylinder, one could be in for a surprise when trying to start the engine.
I brought a 20 years old Toyota Corolla that has 30K original miles original tire as a back up car. I put the car in storage and did not use it much until last year, I found oil leak from valve cover gasket to engine manifold. I don't have $500.00 for this job ($299.00 for replacing spark plug and $300.00 for valve cover gasket job. I pull a spark plug off and it flood with oil on 3 spark plugs and struck PVC valve. I pull a valve cover off and put a new valve cover gasket and new PVC valve and new Denso spark plug. and $12.00 cleaning solution and put everything back. It took me 4 hours as an old man working on the sun at 100 degree temperature. I clean everything. There is no leak. I also replaced a power window regulator two years ago because I don't have 6 weeks waiting time with can not window open and I save $700.00 and risk to have window open for two months,
Hi i replaced the valvecover gasket on my bmw e36 cause i found oil in the plug chambers.i removed the oil from the plug chambers but did not removed the plug .now my car do not wanna start
Not all models of spark plugs are referenced on the manual, NGK show the standard spark plug compatible and on their website (PARTS FINDER), they have a recommandation for Iridium Spark plug (for better performances), for my Corolla 2000 4ZZ-FE, on the manual, they do not recommend NGK spark plugs at all, in fact they recommend DENSO K16R-U11 and BOSCH FR8KCU, but when you go on the NGK Parts finder, what do i find? www.ngkntk.com/benelux/part-finder/produktfinder/PKW/ZK_BENZINER/TOYOTA/COROLLA/BKR5EYA-11/14141/ Standard Spark plug : BKR5EYA-11 and "or as an upgrade for even better driving performance : BKR5EIX-11" I am surprised that for these 2 engines references for that car (the car on your video), no iridium spark plugs are recommended.
Real mechanics look and listen to learn. Never repeat stuff you don’t know is fact. Always DOUBLE CHECK NUMBERS THAT WILL BLOW YOUR MOTOR. OR FRY YOUR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS .
More than likely the seller wether private or dealer didn't care having sold for a low price, and figured new owner can eat it. Still very shady not to disclose the issue regardless, especially if a dealer.
Yeah mine either. Just stuffed a paper towel in between the spark plug and deep socket until the tension was right and it wiggled free perfectly after I hand tightened it 🤙🏻
Doesn't seem like you do any complex Jobs in your garage only simple fixed from what I have seen on your channel so far. That's not to say you don't provide good advice i.e follow cars manual for specs, carry out maintenance as per manufacturers schedule etc.
