That dude was really good at making Virginia Mountain Folk Music into "Indie", Anthems, and Coolness! Told an oblique, sometimes quarky story in every song, conveying emotion in every aspect, and all Instruments, in his home recording setup.. I love "I want my records back..and that motorcycle gas tank..that I...spray painted black" (Spirit Ditch) (Half of that is from Sam Kinnison 1980's Comedy.. "I WANT MY RECORDS BACK ... AWWW OHH HH!" All genius there! This is where it was, where rock music TRULY WAS, before Matador Recs was bought by Capitol Records, and then Matador Recs was surgically disassembled...leaving many bands behind in the Musical Massacre of sorts. Bailter Space, Stereolab, and other great bands, smoked up and destroyed... Rock is now DEAD. It's very sad
Sparklehorse music is so unknown that I could cover them in a live and people would think the song's mine -_- It's not a fact of promotion or anything, Sparklehorse's song show up constantly in commercials, sometimes I wish great music and great things weren't only for the few who could appreciate them; oh well it's a sad and beautiful world, like Mark'd say.
It happens often when we do gasoline horsey ... Or Saturday... We always say who wrote those songs but yes , you are right :) I'm so glad i met Mark Linkous in Turin in 2007 , after his gig , we talked for 30 minutes and i knew he was the greatest song writer in the world... Probably he didn't know that .. such a great great guy!
umm... 9 yrs later, total music lover, just found Mark a couple weeks ago, what the f. This is beyond words what I've discovered. Just an amazingly special artist. Sucks that it took this long to stumble onto him.
