Apart from the fabulous experience Sparks provided that night as support for Beck my favourite thing was the guy who was next to me with his son living every note of every song while on the barrier. Ron whipped off his tie and gave it to them and when Sparks finished the guy just left. Didn't wait for Beck. Just a total Sparks fan. Dedication. I salute you sir. And Sparks.
duncan spencer Hi, Duncan. That was me and my Son. We are massive fans and that was my Son's first gig ever. What a show! I remember you too. Thanks for noticing us and the lovely comment.
@@johnmcmanus9614 Sometime the support acts are much better that the headliners, the last time I went to see the Strangles I left before they even came on stage, after The RUTS DC the Stranglers were just a support band in my eyes.
I also love them Ron as songwriter, composer and musician, Russel as a singer... He is still so good-looking, smiling and full of life on the stage. I wish them a long musical life...
I totally adore Sparks, when ever I need a cheering up moment there guys never fail me. I saw them live in the Barbican a few years back, I will never forget that time as long as I live. Come on you SPARKS.
A band that deserve to headline Glastonbury in 2023. I've bee a fa since I was 12 now 60. They still produce great new music, yet the stuff from Kimono still stands as timeless classics
I always had a soft spot for sparks in the seventies and still have a few albums in the attic my friends thought I was a bit weird but five decades later they still hit the stage so much for one hit wonders 👍🇮🇪
I liked them in the 1980's but I never got into their 1970's material until recently. They created some really great music that I am currently getting familiar with and enjoying. Thank you brothers Mael.
I was there! Change of venue, so, instead of being dozens of rows back, I was one-and-a-half rows from the front! Absolutely sublime. Possibly the greatest band to ever exist!
I first saw them on their much talked about first TOTP appearance for 'This Town...' and was instantly hooked. For one reason or another it took me 40 years to catch them live. I ended up seeing them twice in 3 days and it was more than worth the wait. The Bournemouth show was incredible and being in the smaller hall made it even better.
Its not just the high notes that make this song a b*tch to sing but the damn intervals between the notes. You've got to be a vocal acrobat to pull this off...(I'm not and can't touch this key)
I saw this band in 1974 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium as a 20 year old, I heard of them and I wanna see them live my expectations were fulfilled I loved them I didn't get the Hitler look Keyboard player but He played great keyboards then the Band exploded it was amazing I never forgotten that experience!
Why did it take the algorithm until now to bring this gem to my attention ffs? Wonderful performance to a highly appreciative audience…. in Bournemouth and at home! Just beautiful.
@@wendyhaus1 thanks Duncan for your lovely reply ….seeing them at The Liverpool Philharmonic …great venue was lucky to see Kraftwerk at the same venue , have a good day or night wherever you are
@@wendyhaus1 odelay by Beck is a gem of a album ….New Pollution & Devils Haircut …..and that tune used in a movie …is it Deadweight …”don’t let the sun see you crying “???? I think
@@roycarder6179 he's a great experimental artist and there's mutual respect between himself and Sparks although he's got a long way to go before having a vack catalogue like the brothers Mael. 👍
Thanks for your response Duncan I only have 8 Sparks albums and I know no one with any !!! My Introducing Sparks album has Not For Sale marked on it and is red vinyl Pretty special My favourite album has to be Kimono My House Never seen them live Hope they come to Australia before I die !! LONG LIVE RON and RUSS
The Mael brothers are magic. The backing band are great here as well. Two fantastic songs. Love the music, though a comment on Ron's lyrics. They are brilliantly crafted...and Russell is great at interpreting them. 'This town ain't big enough for both us' - loads of highlights. I've always thought that part between verses three or four was very powerful (you know the part...)...and pure genius. Thanks for posting.
If I can do Russell's exercise in his videos (I think they still are available on Instagram, from May 2020) in his age, that would either kill me or keep me alive for nearly ever. I guess, and hope it's the latter for Russell, and whatever Ron does, his walks and caffeine sodas, works the same way for him. 💖
@@wendyhaus1 🤣🤣🤣🤣!! Don't give ME nightmares now! Oh, no nothing like that at all. He looks like himself, nothing weird, to be a Meal brother, that is 😉. Just kidding, he looks like a guy who is doing an exercise program, just that the price tags were still on the shoes in one video, could have been a pair of Ron's Jordans, but I'm not sure. Two parts, about approx 7-8 minutes speeded up to maybe two minutes each. I tried it, pretty tough I must say, but on the other side, my physical shape has seen it's better days... But when you think about it, to sing like he does you need lung capacity, and he is staying in shape to be able to bounce around AND sing on stage, when the tour finally can start. It's not half the job to remain in shape than it is to gain back what you lost. My own experience.
Always loved these guys, was a bit skeptical that this would be good. I was wrong to be skeptical this was great! A shame the overall recording of it wasn't the best, but they still have it!
I certainly would have him in my band. Whole band are very tight. I thought the drummer was outstanding too. Sparks have the experience to only get the 'right' people behind them. Their live performance was certainly in my top ten of best live acts I've seen.
Duncan Spencer! Oohh, yes! They did! ✨🤩🤩✨🤩🤩✨🤩💖💖✨💖💖✨💖💖🎶 💖🎶✨🎵 In a comment on a video from June 16th I wrote they left us yearning for more, because I'm totally sure I'm not the only one feeling that way. And, I know Ron and Russell are just to turn 73 and 70, but who can tell?!? I have a couple of years left before 60, I'm happy I still get out of bed in the morning 🤣🤣🤣! Seeing Russell bouncing like that... Not good for my self-asteem😂😂😂
@@andywells397 he is incredible for his age, more so than many of his contemporaries... I saw Jagger a decade ago and was amazed at his energy and vocal ability but he does look his age... Tom Jones still has an incredible voice but is very much looking his age... Russell seems to have found 'the fountain of youth' as well as retaining his voice and bounce... incredible
Today EIGHT MONTHS to October 12 and Cirkus, Stockholm... 🙄 Nearly a pregnancy, and many women know how awfully long time that is. And the waiting is getting heavier by every day 😕 Enormously curious and excited over the new album 'A Steady Drip Drip Drip' 😁💖💖💖
I'm also looking forward to October! They will be in Berlin on 15th. I can' t wait! And I hope I can get a hotel room in Amsterdam, I've already bought the ticket for the 17th there. Then I only need a place in front of the stage and everything will be perfect! I want to be as close to Russell as possible.
@@girlfromgermany, We all are a Johnny or Jenny Delusional at some point or another. Just stay on the right side of the line between admiration and lunacy 😉😄
@@annabackman3028 Well, now (today) we can only hope that they'll really come to Europe. 1st that they'll stay healthy and 2nd that they'll be allowed to come to Europe.
I can't wait to see them live. They are heroes for me! I have tickets for the Stockholm gig next year but i guess it will be postponed once more... F*cking Covid 😡😡😡
We'll have to wait and see. Maybe they'll really have to postpone the tour once again, but it would be much worse to cancel the tour altogether. Not only for the fans, also for Ron and Russell. I really hope that this won't happen!
Well, the other day Ron and Russell sent out a message telling they both have had their vaccinations completed, AND are recording next album!!!🤩😃😍💖💖💖 I don't know how long time they will use on recording, but I guess that depends on the vaccination situation for the other musicians. IF we in Europe can have our shots, and some sort of electronic documentation, PERHAPS we can have the ASDDD tour in the fall, a year postponed, and the next album tour in a year - 18 months from now (March -21), OPTIMISTICALLY looking on the situation. With Russell's exercise programs (🥵) and Ron's choice of drink (😂😂) they will be fit for fight for years ahead (🤞🤞🤞). They also have promotion for 'Annette' to squeeze in somewhere, I assume. I hope Ron at least have some vitamins with his soda! 😂 Russell seems to have a lot of fruits with burned toast (the latter in an interview, if that wasn't just a joke on the song, 'I'm Toast', but it didn't look like that.). Oh, these guys... I keep worrying about them, maybe I should start worrying about myself instead, not extremely far behind in age😂😂😂 Btw, tickets for both Stockholm and Copenhagen! 😁 💖
@@annabackman3028 New tour dates are not fully confirmed yet, but it looks like the tour will be next year in spring. And I heard in California they're quite far with the vaccinations. Over 1/3 of the Californians already have it. There are also the so-called "vaccine hunters". That means also young people have the chance to get a vaccination, if they're quick enough, because if a vaccine isn't used these people get a message before it has to be thrown away. I assume the promotion for Annette will be online, as the premiere will also be online. They also already did a bit of the promotion in other interviews. Of course you worry about them! I also do. And I'm really very relieved that they're both doing well after their vaccination. Well, but in the US they don't have the Astra Zeneca vaccine. Maybe fortunately.
@@girlfromgermany Yes, I think that I read or heard something about next spring, when you mention it. I only expressed my hopes and a best case scenario. In time we'll know. I saw that an American follow up on the Astra Seneca vaccine said it was ok (this morning). It has been talkings about that "last drops in the bottle" call in Sweden, but no, not here. Bureaucracy. God forbid a young person have their doses before the eldery people, we rather throw it 😠. So f-ing stupid, I don't have words for it. I don't mean that I would go first, a lot of more "useful" people should be first in line. It's the princip, there's a lack of vaccine, and here we throw it away! A political decision. 😖🤬
The only people who say the Freddie Mercury is the greatest rock n roll singer ever are the people who have never heard Russell Mael sing. To do this song live and hit those notes, especially at his age.... there is no one better! Freddie is great, tho!
They've worked with some very talented musicians over their career for sure. Thought these young guns currently touring with them were very tight though, created some very accurate song reproduction.
Oops replied to myself Not very good at this Try again Have 8 Sparks albums I don't know anyone with any !! KIMONO my favourite My Introducing Sparks album is red vinyl with Not For Sale stamped on it Thanks for your response Duncan
