As a big guy myself i can tell you that its just instinct to sweep someone smaller than you, even as a small child with no training i was able to use a judo trip naturally. leg behind leg and push. Its worked 99% of the time on anyone i have ever tried it to, the only guy it didnt work on was a wrestler. He sprawled as soon as he saw my foot run behind his and negated my push.

1:34 "So, to start this breakdown, I wanna say that if this was a real match, this would end if ONE, just ONE shot landed from my opponent Eric. Fortunately, Eric is a friendly giant with amazing control and sparring etiquette." ^THIS. 100%. And this is why there are weight classes/divisions in combat sports. It's so funny when people say "sIzE dOeSn'T mAtTeR iN a FiGhT!" People that say this generally haven't sparred with actual fighters that are bigger than them. While it's certainly not the only determining factor in a fight, it is definitely important to consider, and to not respect or acknowledge it would be ignorant. Also, I love friendly giants! I can learn a lot from them and they can keep me honest without hurting me! 🙂

I've sparred with against some giants, Kickboxing & with weapons. I am "average" sized: 5 ft 11 inch, 175 lbs. One does have to switch to an appropriate fighting strategy when greatly outweighed. My comment is that many female martial artists have this experience every time they're sparring. My wife is 5 ft 2 inch, & has been training for over 10 years. Her discipline is Eskrima-Kali-Arnis & Karate, which are not as sparring-heavy in training as MMA, still contain freestyle, light-gear fighting in class.

In the unlikely event that you are in combat with a giant opponent in the streets outside of the gym, how would a shorter & smaller person defeat their bigger assailant? Hit first, hit fast? Circle them & use footwork? Target the groin, knees, floating ribs, shins, solar plexus, nose, ears(i.e. rip/tear or clap them) front & sides of throat/neck, eyes, back of the neck/head,?

You mention taking a lot of risks but from a game theory strategy standpoint, it's entirely correct to do so if you're in a situation (sanctioned or not) where you're very clearly outsized and/or outskilled. Same concept when a fighter is down on points going into the final round and needs to start head hunting-gotta take risks because otherwise doing the safe thing and trading evenly means you will inevitably lose anyway

I liked it a lot. Great educational sparring! Some of your hits were very well placed. And the running and moving to the side were good. But you should never allow him to push you to the wall. Imagine if his clinch and knee game was a bit more developed. It would be a death trap. I love to do that with smaller opponents. Some of his techniques would be totally devastating if done faster and with ill intent. But Eric isn't very experienced. That's the problem here. He's still dangerous but there are guys as big as him with more flexibility, dexterity, faster and way more experienced. You should also invite such a guy to sparring.

Bro such a smooth session That dude was a calm bear,I wouldn’t want to see an hungry bear. So vicious Jesus man. I want to see him eat for real. Also big man if he cuts up a little more and slightly improved cardio he’s going to be a bigger problem. Bear doing latter foot work drills is soon going to be a major problem. Finesse + strength*size = kill mode Just some ideas extremely impressive I love the content and would love to get a session in with y’all

Think its Best to try and not take him down if he has that much more weight then u, and if he's experience as well. Best thing to do is keep moving and hitting and don't let him coner you or grab you. Unless you really are that experience then go for it. Other wise a guy like this with skills over a smaller guy can do alots of damage. But it all comes down to the fighter and his skills.

@@-destroyingyouverbally7614 I’d say lifting heavy would help in this case. Powerlifters are very lean but strong as hell.

Whenever I spar giants I just low and hit the body. Use kicks to keep distance and throw in a jumping superman punch to catch them off guard. They win everytime when I go for the head. They have the High ground.

Have you tried punching the inside of the biceps/forearms (where most of the nerve supply to the arm are located) at the same time you slip his punches because that would be extremely useful against someone with a tremendous reach, size and strength advantage against you, especially if it were a self defense/street fight situation!

Hi Jeff amazing video with a lot of nice techniques. 5:53 im using it in infight since your short vid on it. It works amazing. I feel it works better the faster you perform it. Also I learned the right body hook right uppercut (Tyson) combo which makes me finally land some clean uppercuts. Was wondering why you arent doubling up on your punches in this one to mix it up? Right body, right overhand should work on a giant. 6:43 this ones new to me. I'll try it out looks good. 6:06 underrated mortal combat like finishing move in the background. Tutorial worthy. Thanks for sharing!

One self defense technique I learned when I was younger is making friends with guys that look like your spurring partner here. Just having them around tends to deescalate most situations.

I guess having big friends could intimidate would be bullies. I mean how does the bully know your friend want beat the hell out of them as soon as they start to hit you? My best friend in junior high was small so he wasn't going to intimidate anyone.

@@KentPetersonmoney Well I guess you could technically compensate by having a lot of small friends in place of one big one. Lol
