This was a great session that I'll remember forever -- thank you for the rounds, champ 🙏 Regarding the comments about Icy Mike and me: it's natural to compare skill levels, but Mike has a style very different from Gabriel and myself. It's a style of striking that favors MMA, and his ability to contend in sparring has very little to do with his ability to convey information and build strong fighters. I consider him to be one of the best coaches I've ever met -- and I've be around! Just wanted to step in and have my boy's back 😅 Mike is the man. And tough as all hell!
Great point Shane. While most people are quick to point out how technically sound you are, Mike’s style is much more nuanced to the casual eye. The little tricks he uses to allow him to get off shots while some may think are “dirty” (not me lol) are an art in and of itsef
I think Mike also has a very diverse skill set right? As he has said before most of his experience of fighting has come from being a cop, so he has more experience than most in real world conflict. He also looks like he spends a lot of time working on that skill set. You can see that in his resent knife fighting video where he outwrestles a larger opponent. Not everyone can be a 6 time world champion like Gabriel, but I think we can all learn skills and techniques that can help us protect ourselves and the ones we love. In short, become Hard to Hurt God, that last part was corny!
The combo at @ 2:11 would have landed well I think I can see you pulled that uppercut to not connect and then got off-balanced before the left straight but that uppercut was nice!. Good work Mike! implementing that dirty boxing I'm a shorter guy myself so I love to see it!
Damn Shane has textbook perfect form and very crispy with his muay-thai style and Mike has a messy more of backyard MMA swarming/brawling style. I wonder what is Mike's weight and Shane would love to see both of them spar in MMA rules. Great sparring! PS: Mike is a good second his words while sparring shane is awesome and motivating.
I love seeing this. Icy Mike is a bulldog and Shane is a technician. That looks soo fun! Scary too. Lol Gabe was going light, which is cool because we can really see the tech. Man I am getting excited watching these videos.
Guys, this whole series just makes me smile every time. Gabriel, Mike, Shane, Seth, Kevin, Ed, and the whole crew- this has been an absolute encyclopedia of teaching, and it's also been great in terms of HOW to teach it. Thanks for doing this!
I love how you mix up Muay Thai techniques with Karate techniques. Teeps and mae geri's and short inside leg kicks and Muay Thai step through knees, the whole 9. Good stuff. Osu
Love this match up. I hope to see all you guys continue. All great youtubers. Now they have a true legend, my man varga in the house. Much respect bro. Keep them coming
Putting icy mike up with Shane in the same video😂😂 it's hard to match Shane's technique. Mike had some good moments in there. Yall show him some love. Don't shit on him.
I'm speechless...Such sick techniques with nice contact but not done with disrespectful lack of control. Very well done boys! Thanks for answering mine as well as everyone else's request for this video.👍🏽
Shane is the guy that could kill you, but is too nice. Gabriel is the tall gentle giant who loves to spar. Icy mike loves being dirty. Seth is the taekwondo guy he won’t admit to be.
Hey Gabriel, man I love watching you fight and would be so interested in learning your techniques and strategies. Do you think you would ever put together an instructional for dynamic striking? I think a lot of us, especially myself, would benefit a ton from that and learning directly from you.
Great video, Gabriel. Fantastic sparring with Shane. By the way, on what occasion were you all meeting together. Was it anything special? Is something coming up?
This was awesome 🙌🙌👏👏 Shane is amazing I first learnt Martial Arts through him so this was exciting to see. I m curious though were the sparring rounds only 1 minute with each person? We are only ever shown like the last 30sec with the individuals.
That comment about imagining what its like fighting Buakaw is exactly what I think too! Like just eating round kick after round kick and then an occasionally teep
if anything from watching many fights and sparring in you tube, it was almost all good fighters and champions they dictate the phase and even the rhythm of the fight; never the defensive type but the attackers or counter strikers. secondly they exude tremendous amount of confident due to they knowing what to do / highly technical.
Could you make a video with a synopsis of kickboxing eras and the various organizations. Zambidis, Israel or Tate were on different era or in different organization from you?
I think you knew icy mike could take more because hes been whipped, tasered, pepper sprayed, and just generally uses himself to test out weapons and techniques
First thing I notice is the difference in strikes from Icy Mike. He goes for crippling hits (liver, nose, throat) while you and Shane go for point shots.
I want to like Icy Mike, but he has said some really dumb stuff, and some of that dumb stuff was dangerous. Saying oblique kicks don't blow out knees, which is patently false. They absolutely do if done hard enough and depending on where and how you connect, how straight is the their leg at the moment, the angle etc. In one of the arts I have trained (Silat) oblique kicks are used mainly for knee destruction.
Im from malaysia, i do silat gayung, bjj, muay thai, tae kwon do, lots of silat schools dont pressure test anymore, and icy mike never said oblique kicks dont work, he just said theyre not fight enders, but cause a lot of damage over the long term.
Mike had nothing really going. This shows his bad habits of falling into that side karate stance. He used none of his "side stance defense" tactics he was showing in other videos. This shows what combat tested really means. Also, Mike had no answer to the front teep kicks.
@@vladimirgertner3960 don’t think hes that much heavier then Mike. Mike talks a big game and criticizes high level strikers in MMA, where himself has fought at no high level. He looks like a beginner in this at best.
@@Eddy-we2nq Most if not all of them look so bad. They are only successful on here because they are white. The guys at Evolve (Nong-O) would offer much more in terms of knowledge and honest technique. Metrolina Martial Arts (tha wing chunner) was worse. My gosh dude had nothing at all with his patty cake sparring. But the good thing is, their fanboys will be easy to beat up! So we need not worry!
@@Eddy-we2nq It's all a bit relative. Varga is shreded at walkaround weight of 72kg. Mike is a dad-bod older dude with 68kg. That's a huge effective weight difference. The height difference is also huge. ANd, of course, when sparring with potentially the best kickboxer out there right now, you will look worse off than usually. Also, i don't think Mike really criticizes high-level mma fighters. He just gives his ideas.
I'm seeing a lot of comments about how impressed they are with Shane and Shane is in fact very good, what i find off is thinking a professional fighter is somehow untouchable or something. As someone who train with pros and amateur fighters in Brazil i must say there's no difference between a pro and a very serious practioner, the difference is in the mindset, a pro wants to compete and sometimes someone who really love training does not, that's all. There's guys in my gym who are absolute savages, they train up to 4 hours a day just for fun, they are not worst than any pro in the gym and we have Bellator (MMA), LFA(MMA), WGP(KB) and some other good events Champions.
You are in the wrong gym. Move! I had this experience recently as well. Proper gyms spar hard but fair with no ego. If you're genuinely copping a beatdown and not learning. Just pack ya bags and go somewhere else man.
