Fun fact: Carthage faced Sparta not only in this battle but also irl twice: Dorieus - Prince of Sparta & elder brother of the famous Leonidas in a 3 year struggle from 513-511 BCE for the control of Tripolitania in Libya, which he had to give up & abandon his new colonies & a war in Sicily in 510 BC which ended in defeat & death for him & his troops by a combined force of Carthaginians & Elymians.

Very nice battle from both players. I really liked the Spartan formation but perhaps I would position the hoplites on the flanks. Having pikes in the middle guarantees its impenetrable. But still, wp by both On a side note, I dont particularly like when you listed the unit rosters. Its very hard to follow what you are saying unless you know all the units names by heart. Plus witnessing the position of each unit is a big part of the battle
you can just copy the units from battel ending - And paste them at the begining soo roster will be there . Sparta is like i said while in battel with EseM lower T . i would say the lowest T in game possible . They fun and have some good units but overall they dont have any good archers - cav and swords . Only defensive capebilites are valid rest is just trash units . Carthago after redone is one of Top T factions . you can easly choose what kind of aproach you whana have . And yup . securing flanks with my hoplites isint bad idea . Just hammer and anvil from cav would destroy them and they are slow to witdraw soo if they stuck in mele they will die . Hopliets in flanks are bad idead if enemy have better cav and sword infanty .
Thanks for the input mate! Would you rather I show the army comp when we can see most of the units then? It’s just in battles like this we often don’t get to see all of the units before the battle starts. Due to line of sight and tree coverage
Spartan Youths in an army with a lot of MS bonus are very fun to use. Parallel to that, today I saw the AI sending a hoplite unit to fire up the fire pots that you get defending a settlement, and for some reason they went to stretch their line at like speed 7+ it was the scariest thing to see at a distance
Bruh that’d be terrifying 😆 like little spiders or something scurrying around haha. The youths can definitely be great, I think they just got outflanked too hard here
@@Immersaholic I was literally horrified like it gave me uncanny valley vibes from seeing the little soldiers at mach 20, and then when I saw it was to ignite the pits it was a relief. I was flanking with cavalry at the time so I thought they were going at my units, very scary indeed
Yeah I guess, just very low tier shock still. For spears it’s decent though. Their attack is okay but not super high which is why I was hesitant to call them shock. Still great for spears though
Sword base - Meanwhile roster of sparta hmm - Pixes everywhere :D . It was nice battel . EsseM Had massive advantage with faction . Is noo match for them they are high T faction now .
Lot of swords and some cheeky pikes in there too, Spartan troops are insanely elite but it’s only a few of them. Carthage can call on men from all corners of the Mediterranean
@@Immersaholic Yup . most of the time diffrence betwen factions are huge . I like how everybody talking abaut no cav in my army but dont see that Sparta is also very expensive faction
I did mention it a few times in the video, but yeah some people don’t realize how expensive Sparta is. Same thing with Rome, amazing units but super expensive. You did great in the battle though mate, I honestly would’ve probably done a similar army to you with no cav
Sometimes yes. Although our last battle I posted, Cimbri vs media is a good example of how to negate cavalry advantages. It can be done, just depends on the context
@@Immersaholic yeah, thats right. but when you face a faction with no cav it gets like a waaaaay more difficult, DEI does a good job in showing that when you have more or just better cav you can win more easily, overall hammer and anvil is still the best way to rout an enemy army, still, like you say, this is not a 100% fact, if your cav is worse, choose skirmish cav, wich usually is faster and lure they better cav to your archers/slingers/spears, but yeah, if you dont have cav i find that its very difficult to win, unless you find a way to pepper them with missile fire, the battle was a good example of this
For e sec it looked like Sparta will take it, but Chartagian cavalry did too much damage and it became difficalt, just not enough men for Sparta at the end..
@@giod6266 To be honest I think it's not too terrible if he could've protected the rear better. Like with slingers and spears for example. He went for more elite infantry though I'd guess
@@Immersaholic It is unposible to protect rear in any way with such huge, gigantic long line with slow moving dismounted units, just no way :) Usiging slingers, would helped a little, maybe, dont know, but without cav you will still get outmaneuverd and charged from sides or behind..
In my opinion - Sparta , Arche Bosporus , Epirus , Pergamon . Should be redone . Meny of this faction lacking meny units . Epirus and Pergamon Lacking some good sword infantry . Pergamon had treaty with Rome and used Romanized tactics in their army . Epirus used many italic infantrymen . Arche Bosporus was Naval black sea power with very good greek and scythians soldiers wich i dont see many greeks in they roster . Sparta is tru Shadow of itself - Hoplite walls is oudeted in warfare bad they did have created Hegemony on peloponisia wich is why they shoul have more allied infantry from Argos or from Olimpa . Famus citys with legendary warriors . DEI is lacking many units in rosters . In other fact show my battels with Pergamon . This faction should be nerfed :D
What do you mean? Epirus get Threspotians AND agranians from turn 1. Really strong melee units. Sparta was never famous for their swordsmen and by the timeline of DEI, they were a spent force. Bosporus got reworked recently and got really powerful nomadic units. Their roster is really good and variety isn't lacking. Besides, the devs seek to reach the perfect point between balance and historical authenticity. It's not an easy task imo
@@rodricuhtredson413 Never said Sparta should have more sword - Should have more allied units . They used them much often after losing greap on their Hegemony . Epirus have some nice units but ryly against rome on start ? Its possbile ofc . My point is there is many units that are just not in the game that are historical and should boost d-tier factions
@@King.Leonidas lol you missing my point here mate. I ment there is meny units missing . Pergamon had Romanized units at the late 1-2 bbc . Sparta used allied units. Epirus with their roster is just shame , In Rome I on mod europa bararoum they showed many nice units from that period of time
