Such a shame that they only had 3 seasons with 6 episodes a piece. This show was phenomenal. It's definitely one of the all-time greatest animated series ever. It should've been bigger.
She saw there was still good in Al and why he made that deal. It wasn't out of greed but out of love. I believed Al and jade would've been a great couple. They could've made a fresh start together
@@zoy13 I know buddy. Al could've had a nice life with jade. She could've helped him move on from Wanda. We all understand that he still loves Wanda but the best thing Al can do for her is move on after making sure heaven and Hell stay away from the unborn baby. Besides jade was right. The lines between good and evil aren't as clear as she thought.
@@stevyluv743 it pained Al to kill Jade but he didn't have a choice. Even if he killed the hunters heaven would've sent more after Jade. Shame I liked her. She was good for Al.
James Brown more like Michael and Satan I wish they would acknowledge that the God the angels serve isn’t really God but St Michael the brother of Satan
I watched this scene on tv when I was about 6-7 years old and it traumatized me so much that I swore off cartoons for about a month, and here I sit 15 years later and I remembered EVERYTHING in this scene, and it STILL made me cry today.
Jade's a lot like Ashi from Samurai Jack. Both started out as assassins who were trained to kill individuals they thought were bad, but turn over a new leaf when they realise the individuals they hunted weren't as bad as they first thought.
The hesitation spawn showed was the first time he did that before he was sent to hell in the first place. This show was a masterpiece, make it live action or make this a movie franchise. Spawn is too amazing to be forgotten about. Love him!!🖤
Rumors are that a movie is in the making with jamie foxx as spawn, dont like that cast that much but if it becomes a success todd said that he may do the animated series again
It'll be nice if the previous part also can be inserted as well. I loved the scene where they were at the graveyard facing each other as the camera zooms out. It's like something beautiful has been started between them. And like when she held his hand and said that she understood and Spawn was touched. His hunter became his heart's savior and just as she became what would potentially be his cure, she had to die right away before anything even had the chance to start. This always tears me up.
In the comics, Jade eventually went to hell anyway. But Al chased her soul and saved her from damnation. But she could never go back to heaven nor hell, thus Spawn instead made her part of the Legion, Spawn's Suit's true form.
Atop everything, props all around to the depiction of Heaven’s assassins. You can tell they’re from a higher place that’s supposed to be better, but you can also see and feel that they are heartless, empty, unfeeling creatures, a shadow of what they’re supposed to be. If you can’t hear it in their voices, you can in what they say. They insult Spawn in how they remorselessly tell him he’ll never find peace and yet they won’t kill him even when he asks it because he’s ‘not in their contract’, yet they had no real problem with seeking the life of one of their own because she chose not to kill Al. Her romance with him is clearly not another factor, only the initial offense that put a target on her head in the first place.
jade...she could have been the woman for spawn...I would encourage those two in a minute if I was to see spawn be with someone that loved him and not try and kill him
@@RequiemPoete yeah it sucks. I just wish Al can find someone to love and move on. Jade was the woman that could love Al despite being a hellspawn. I know he still loves Wanda but the best thing he can do for her is move on. So long as he keeps trying to be back in her life Wanda and her family will be in the crossfire.
@@ihavetubes I think,, production wise, they were equal but I give SPAWN the edge because it broke new ground content wise for American animation. Unlike previous works aimed at older viewers, the writing was consistently good to great, often improving on the source material! BATMAN TAS had 60+ years of source material to pull from, and again, it was meant for younger viewers while not insulting older viewers. Which is "better" is a pointless debate because it's based on opinion. I was very specific about why I preferred Spawn but it doesn't mean I dislike BATMAN TAS, far from it.
If this series can be rebooted, remastered, re-incarnated, or even just continue on with already existing story, I would love to see Jade come back somehow or in some form and finish what she started: Rekindle Spawn’s humanity and help him reclaim his soul. :’(
Don’t you feel it? It’s all changing. The sides aren’t as clear cut anymore. I can’t kill forever. I’m tired, I want some peace! Please, help me to end it.
I need to know how they made the sound that the hunters make. Like is it an altered animal cry? Its a toss up between this and the nazgul screech for sounds I wish I could naturally make, hahaha. I dont care how weird that makes me. XP
That thought came to my mind when i watched the TMNT 2003 series! The character models look identical... It has to be some kind of easter egg for sure.
What I real liked about show it that it art style follows the type used for kid cartoons at the time, like what we see in such Shows' like Gargoyles (Keith David voiced Goliath!)or X-Men, yet such a animation style dose not look out of place with this show. Animation was more mature back then despite being gear towards children, in style and storytelling.
I don't know why Spawn wouldn't have just wasted those hunters though. Can you really be so paralyzed with grief that it would keep you from wanting to avenge a woman like Jade? I would have bathed in their blood.
Jade was really good character I loved her & hoped she'd be resurrected or something later on. 10 years of this & still better than anime from today. She & Spawn I ship em. Guy deserves to be happy & at peace too. Seriously when she kissed him without hesitation even after seeing him Beauty & the Beast but more dark & gruesome version.
0:33 to 0:35 That's a bad@$$ moment, right there. I never noticed that their eyes are never seen. Even when one of them takes their robe off, you don't see them. The more you know.
The first time that a spawn of hell was better then an angel if this teaches you anything its that no matter where someone is from they can be good even from hell
It's now an idea of mine to do an adult animated series called "The Wildwood Chronicles" that's a grand-scale crossover between several media that retroactively puts them in the same universe and the HBO Spawn Trilogy will be a part of it and like with all the others serves as a sequel to it picking up years later after Spawn had to kill Jade and declared to Cogliostro "I want my humanity back!".
The soul of Al Simmons, good and evil at constant battle with each other, he was already cursed even before he became Hellspawn. But maybe it was Malbolgia's biggest mistake to never have looked beyond the darkness of Spawn's soul.
Just when it seemed he could move on from Wanda, he had to kill her...its fucked up. Both hell and heaven want to fuck with us and spawn's just smack dab to do the dark shit...poor dude either deserves peace or a second chance.
And after this he said screw the system and killed alot of angels and demons, you should check the comics! The art is nice but the dialogue can be funny at times thanks to MacFarlane's writing.
@@cosmicghost811 Tiffanny never replaced Angela. Tiffanny's last appearance was between issue 40 and issue 50. Angela's last appearance was in issue 100.
The biggest issue I had with Spawn was it's portrayal of Heaven and God. HEAR ME OUT. I am NOT saying Todd McFarlane should have made this a religious piece to promote my religion. And I do NOT claim to be the kind of Christian that NEVER watches or enjoys darker stuff. Far from it. But part of the CHARM of this is how God was distant, unknown and hard to fully understand. Often, this is how most who believe in God (or any deity) feel. This darker look was interesting. The Redeemer type warrior (The Anti-Spawn) uses Celestial Fire that burns and hurts to use. I would rather have seen Spawn given the purpose of a Redeemer, to fight against hellspawn on Earth as part of his redemption. In order to cleanse his soul of evil and pay for his sins, he had to spend time as a Redeemer, learning self-control and morality. They never went that way. They went an awkward, bizarre way where Spawn just .... I don't know. He became SOMETHING. God turned out to be a mullet-sporting Mr. Olympian try-out with ego problems. Malbolgia was...I don't know, they went all over the place. Then some Mother figure that made no sense was disappointed in both. I just....It was just so screwy. Spawn was just....there. And they made a "God" that didn't seem like anything associated to God. A Devil that was....quirky. And then we had Spawn. Before they went the downhill area with Heaven's side, Spawn was good. You really couldn't tell if he would end up being a good guy again or if he would give in to evil totally. He had inclinations to both. But this route...just made no sense. I feel this is where they FAILED. Angry anti-religious emo's will definitely suck it up and love it, but that's kind of why Spawn went OUT OF BUSINESS. They'll try to blame it on something else, but in truth the moment it became some fairy-tale version of God and Satan that had no strong focus besides "WE LOVE SPAWN!!! SPAWN ALWAYS WINS!!!", it went downhill. Myself, I felt that God should have been kept distant, unknown and up to the reader to decide. And Al Simmons eventually given the role of a Redeemer to purify himself and better himself for God. But that's just me.
Keith David. The voice of Spawn, Goliath, Black Panther from Fantastic Four series 1994, Arbiter from Halo 2 and 3 and Commander G'Throkka from TMNT 2012.
I fucking love this cartoon, so much better than movie. And I love the movie, but it hasn't got shit on this masterpiece. Saying that it's better then comics, I hate Todds artwork. If anyone can think of any good dark and twisted spawn books and not that cheesey shit from the 90s hit me up.
