This is how you write a dark hero/anti-hero. Behind all of their violence, their rage, their lust for vengeance, you get little but powerful glimpses of the humanity that they thought they lost a long time ago. Like when Batman comforts a dying child, or Spawn in this scene. At the end of it all, they are just deeply troubled and flawed people looking for redemption. It is little acts of humanity like this that show them at their most heroic.
Agreed or like whenever the punisher talks to karen page like he actually shows humanity and emotion same when he is in a scene with amy and i.m talking about the punisher Netflix show not comics or animated shows
I love spawns monologue at the end of MK11. It sums his character up well. "I am beyond redemption. But that doesn't mean I can't do a little good." The irony is he withholds himself from redemption because he feels he doesn't deserve it. When in actuality he does considering he saves and protects humanity
She doesn’t even fear him. She treats him like a normal person for a little girl, she doesn’t fear a man who actually looks like a demon. That’s amazing. And I love how spawn isn’t a asshole to innocent kids. And it sucks what happened to him. He would have kept Wanda and had a kid of his own. Poor Spawn. Looks like a devil but has a heart like an angel.
@@GigaChadh976 there was a serum given to soldiers by directory wynn to make them powerful but it also had side effects like impodencey. Edit also apparently hiv
Nowadays the term edgy has become such an ugly and destructive word that allows for far too many people to judge a book by the cover. So many write Spawn off as an edgelord but fail to realize there's more to him than his appearance or his brutality.
"The Sad Man......" And there I go, eyes get watery. I can't watch this scene without getting a little choked up. Just a truly wonderful scene that's filled with emotion, and indicative of the overall quality of the series. When you think about it, when you take away the anger, the menacing look, and the powers he has, that's really what Spawn is, just a sad man, one who's holding onto a lot of pain and grief. It took a child to see that in him, and it really tugs on the heartstrings when she says that to Wanda. In my opinion, and I am a bit biased because Spawn is my favorite comic character ever, this is the greatest adaptation of any comic book in any medium. 3 seasons of awesomeness that I don't think get the credit they deserve when discussing great comic adaptations, or great TV shows in general.
BestWayKilla In the comics it's just as heartwrenching whenever Simmons talks to granny Blake, or Cyan. Another scene that brought me to tears is when Al goes to see Wanda to talk to her, notices a guy about to kill her, saves her, and Wanda is utterly terrified, Cyan walks in saying, "He saved me mama, he won't hurt you." And.... oh look it's raining....
TheCrimsonIdol987 Yeah, the little vestiges of his past life are mostly held in the people he lets his guard down around, namely, as you said, Cyan and Granny Blake. It's in those moments you really get to see his pain and regret come out, and it makes him a better character for it.
If only it didn't end on a cliff hanger, tho I'm sure it was cancelled for many different reasons. So I won't blame the people who made the TAS of spawn.
Why did HBO screw up and tell Todd McFarlane to take the show in a different direction? At least he did the right thing, and said screw it, this is my show, and you're not going to dictate to me what I'm going to do with my creation.
Violator is supposed to be hated for he is a genuinely evil demon. Demons by nature are nasty but he is one of the nastier demons in hell. So it is alright to hate him with a passion.
Lando Calrissian Considering McFarlane knew how to make variations of Spawn look cool, I doubt anyone was supposed to like Violator’s design and personality. The guy appears to be completely devoid of compassion and has horrible taste. Uses worms as sprinkles for his ice cream. If it even was ice cream.
A major tearjerker this one. I like how Wanda figures out in a second that it was Al that saved Cyan and sort of knows that he is watching over them like a guardian angel
God this scene is so emotional. Cyanne just wasn’t scared of Spawn one bit and that probably warmed his dead heart. Even though it’s not his kid, he did it because he is still a good man and wanted to keep Wanda’s life in tact and not fall apart. Al is the sad man, but he is also a secret guardian from the 7th sphere of hell
I lost my son 2 years ago. And I always grieve at this scene. I went to his grave and had this music in this scene playing at his funeral. Took out all the audio and just the music playing......never leaves you. Pain. Just bouts of subsiding.
3:37 Spawn, usually shown tall, dark, malignant, with chains rattling and cloak flying in ethereal winds, the horrors of mankind made incarnate.... small and pitiable, next to the shadow of an innocent child.
@@xtoiletxninjax no he didn't. Cyan is like 4. He's been dead for 5 years. That's why he saved Cyan. It's the child he could never give Wanda and he knows it.
This was my favorite episode of the series, because it was the most action-packed and emotional. I also liked that this was pretty much the first time (and one of the very few times) Spawn actually got off his ass and DID SOMETHING!!!
0:43 something tells me Al (Spawn) wanted to shed a tear... but couldn't... due to the fact he's a demon, and a corpse.... That's what makes him tragic... All he could do is feel nothing, and sometimes he feels more pain than ever...
As soon as Cyan said “ I want my mommy” tears started flowing down my face like water coming out of a faucet. 😭😭 Between the Spawn/Cyan convo and the background music it’s impossible not to get emotional 🥺😔
He fought for child that wasn’t his, yet he was ready kill for her, as if she was his own. Al is a beast, and his restraint is a testament to his character.
"The sad man." I have no idea why. Well, I may have a slight idea, but that line tears me up. The amount of regret Simmons has been left with is heartbreaking. He can only look into the world that his wife and best friend lives in but never be a true part of it ever again. Cyan dosn't know HOW much he hurts, but she clearly saw something and felt sorry for him, which is one of the very few mercies he's been granted since he was reborn as one of Malebolgia's Hellspawn.
@@cooler1679 Hey Such Al save Cyan But Thing Are Not what They seem to Be Al Is Still Curse And He can Never Get Back The live He Lost And Worst Of All He can never Be with Woman He love
@@jalenikezeue4114 Being a hero always has a catch. And this is one of those catches. Not all heroes have it all. Like for example. For Peter Parker to become the hero Spider Man. His Uncle Ben had to die so he would get the motivation to do so. Do to him letting the guy who killed him go.
Despite everything, despite his cruelty, despite the job, despite the murders, there's still good in him. That's why it still hurts. That's why he's truly damned. What a show.
You know how kids grow up without their parents and they spend their whole lives wondering but their parents are watching over them in secret? That's what this kind of feels like. They know they can't be in their lives but they can watch over them in secret
Man, I didn't expect this scene to hit me in the feels. The music also really sets the scene really well. Spawn may not be the friend liest comic book character, but he also is a very tragic one as well. The look on his face, when Al's daughter didn't reconize him just says everything, that deep down he is very hurting and he could never be with Wanda and his daughter ever again.
Bro Keith david did such a good job because i can feel the pain in spawns voice bro thats what really makes the scene ither than the child calling him the sad man
Oh, man...this hits your feels like a truck. This is how my Warforged character would've acted with children if he'd ever gotten the chance in game to save a child from serious danger--his military training emphasized, among other things, "Protect and spare little humans." He had his share of personal pain he carried with him and this scene from this series and the comic helped to inspire that aspect of his back story. Kids can see things we grownups can't after years of learning to be cynical and jaded, for sure.
Sometimes children can see more than most adults, when people look at Spawn they see a a grotesque intimidating Demon from hell yet in this moment Cyanne saw more than anyone else ever did, she saw the real Al, his true self......The Sad Man
