Thank you for sharing such insightful information. I found your video as I'm looking for a way to boost my confidence in front of the camera. But there is another factor to add to my natural shyness; that English isn't my mother tongue. So my question is would your courses be for people like me?
I'm here because I feel uncomfortable talking to a group, not because I'm shy, but because I tend to slur and rush my words. I want to be more confident!
you have to train your voice - Be mindful of your speech - Find someone whoose voice you like - Find 30 - 60 seconds of them speaking - Play it and repeat what they say
I'm here because people tend to ignore me when I speak or, dismiss what I say because I sound unsure or stumble over my words. I'm making sure that BS is going to stop right now!!
My problem is I stutter a lot, and lose thought from topic I’m speaking on.. I guess even great speakers like Presidents, Leaders, and officials still go through this.. that’s what motivates me to keep going. Great video!
@Mike it all comes down to the human soul, and how your conscience is trying to deliver the message. When the words from your mouth becomes fluid then it was meant to be said. There are messages that I deliver with flaws but they still reach regardless, God has a way of carrying our Message no matter if the individual has a brain injury, speech impediment, stuttering problem.. remember Gods beloved Moses gave an excuse of His stuttering speech but look at the mighty works that was done by God using Him to deliver the message ! And it still shocks the world to this day! Keep speaking man !
So happy I found this channel. Sometimes when I speak, I start going too fast (I think I try to prevent someone from interrupting, I hate that!) and I will mispronounce a word or even use the wrong word. It happens once in awhile at work and there’s always people who point it out and make fun of me. I get so embarrassed. I hate it!
Just pretend like youre on a call with your friend on laptop and keep ur headphones around, when someone comes in just pretend like you just muted ur friend and that you're annoyed that theyre interrupting you by giving you no privacy. Hope it helps :)
Doing these drills I realise just how much confidence got knocked out of me. The more I practice the more dialogue I come up with. As a kid I had TWO imaginary friends ... going through these reminds me just how much purposeful, articulate I was since I played with them daily even through the night and it was this that forced people to make me shut up. As a result I lost a TON of confidence, hardly did anything worth effort and at 35 years I'm trying to unbreak the chains I know were holding me back. Thank you mate, my writing is going to elevate significantly💯
I grow up being shy & quiet. Now, its really hard to make a conversation with people because some people would ask me to repeat what I said because the way I pronounce it
I'm so glad I read this. I felt alonein this until now. People don't realize that being shy, suppressed, or timid can actually have an effect on your speech.
I suppose I don’t put enough energy into my speaking so I guess I mumble a bit. It makes me seem weak. and I noticed people don’t respect me. Sometimes take advantage of me. In spite of that you would think by my appearance people wouldn’t treat me as such. I’m tired of it. I want to stand tall. Speak tall!
I'm tired of sounding stupid. Its time for me to speak for myself. Even when I had trouble on speaking up to my family or my siblings. I always have a problem how to talk to people
find an interesting book and spend a lot of time reading the book, ignoring how uncomfortable it seems the first few days. Phone screens make our brains go in auto drive more making us not pay attention and dulling our minds to not talk, read read read that’s the only way to make your brain sharp & you’ll learn conversation structures and sentence structures from dialogues of the peoples in the books, read tm pls I’m gonna motivate myself to read at least 1 hr n stay off my phone as much as possible you do it too! your better self wants to it’s on you to meet your better self there
@@yonathank132I do have great books that are apart of what I can have me considered for. Back in my teenager days and my child days I was stupid and I didn't know what to do at times, just because I didn't have a brain to get real attention for myself. Now I realize that I'm getting to learn a little bit to have any motivation that could help me.
Communication isn’t just about speaking clearly. The world has deaf people so a clear voice is useless. Even if you have a clear voice and have great writing skills the person you’re speaking to may not understand the same words you use, or disagree with your opinion, or aren’t interested in your message. Just because you say something clearly doesn’t mean that you’re right, or that you’re being understood or that people care.
I don’t know why I never looked this up before. I want to improve my speech. I get so excited when I speak nobody understands and I hate listening back to my voice. As an immigrant I need to improve my vocabulary. At 36 I will improve 😊
I sound so unconfident when I speak that people do not respect me, do not take me seriously and always dare to be rude to me, dismiss me and even laugh at me sometimes, I really want this to change
I used to be like you, until i took on a sort of mental demeanour of someone nobody wants to fuck with. Try pulling your shoulders back just enough, stand tall, dont smile unless there's a joke. Walk with stride, and just before engaging in conversation, breath through your diaphragm and DONT RUSH. Take your time. Show them what kind of man you are.
Its so good to see such a community exist.... I am grateful to this channel which brings us all together here ,to tackle our Daily life speech problem.
1. Find someone’s voice you love someone who has a good voice how you wanna sound like 2. 30 to 60 sec max 3. Play it daily Pause speak it mimic it till you can do it by heart. 4. Till you can do a impressintion 5. Record your voice once a week to compare it to you own. 6. Warm up before the practice
IM JUST GONNA SAY THAT ALL OF HIS VOICE IMPROVEMENT/ SPEAKING IMPROVEMENTS AND MORE WAS REALLY TRUE😀❤ I FOLLOWED ALL OF HIS VID AND YESTERDAY WAS MY 10TH MONTH OF PRACTICING EVERYDAY AND I NOTICE THAT I SPEAK VERY FLUENTLY AND CLEARLY THANK U SO MUCH🥰❤ PS. U ALL MUST TRY EVEN IF ITS TAKE TIME BECAUSE "WHAT U HAVE PLANTED NOW WILL HARVEST LATER"
I had some speech issues, due to multiple tensions in my body, mainly caused by chest breathing instead of belly breathing. You are on point with this. My speech therapist also said improving speech is not an overnight fix. I have made massive improvements by embracing that mindset.
Hey , can you explain how did your therapist made you learn belly breathing, like I don't understand the concept , like can't make a difference between both chest or belly breathing, if it's about movement, like my both belly and Chet's move when inhaling like how to know which one is predominant,
These videos might be the only ones of this type (like tips for improvement) that I can watch start to finish and never be bored or want to punch the person making the video in the face. He's so friendly and kind, but not to the point where it seems fake or over the top, it makes it so much easier to learn from him.
I am astonished how RU-vid decided to recommend me this. I have noticed how often I slur my speech, often in the end of my sentences, and I figured a lot of it comes from insecurities in what I’m saying. It becomes even worse when I notice no one can hear what I’m saying. This is the type of content I needed, and I’ll try my best to follow it. Thank you!
Just a random thought here (related to speaking clearly). I feel I have an inhibition about speaking clearly due to my lack of assertiveness. Mumbling (etc) creates an ambiguity which makes it easier for me to back peddle on things I say. Now I don't desire to present as "strong" but I do want to be more authentic and speaking clearly, unapologetically (while still politely) will help me to achieve this authenticity. That is, say what I want to bloody well say! Great vid. Thank you.
This is going to sound strange but I truly do not speak a lot in my day to day life. I'm a bit of a loner and I truly think there have been days when I literally did not speak a word. I am very well spoken but recent recordings of myself have revealed some bad habits. Like inaudible instances mid-sentence. This will truly be a big help for me.
This method is identical to the process professional jazz improvers do to get better at improvising. We call it “transcribing” - imitating someone else’s entire solo, matching the style and inflections. I am studying for my DMA in saxophone currently, and they have me teaching on the spot often in front of audiences, and I feel that my speaking fluency needs to get better. So, it is pretty cool to hear that the practice of getting better at it is something I already relate to.
I'm here because I had enough of people not understanding what I say and then be rude about it... Last time when I was offering upgrade for customers credit card I asked - "Do you visit Cafe often?" Customer: "what?" "A Cafe?.....cafe.... a CAFE.... CAFE.... RESTAURANT???" Customer was just staring at me, without making any response, and then after "restaurant" finally "oh.....no". I honestly think that sometimes people don't even bother to listen, not in this example, but many other ones.
I recently started to stream on Twitch platform and started to listen to my own voice during the playback. I never realized all these little habits that I do while I talk. Such as the stalling words, little sounds I make, etc etc. Definitely need to improve on my articulation, forming new good speech habits and sounding more confident as I talk to the audience.
My issue is that I speak and think faster than a normal person. As consequence of this is the "huh?" or "can you say that again, your mumbling" and I'm tired of repeating myself all the time and break down what I'm saying into layman's terms as yet another consequence of a rich vocabulary. Appreciate the exercises man keep helping those who process information fast
If you want to hear examples of great speakers, listen to talk radio. These people really have a way of communicating clearly and succinctly. They make it seem easy, but they are super-skilled.
Thanks. You can change the world. The ability to speak is a powerful gift. It seems like there is always something new to learn about public speaking. Every good and perfect gift comes from the Father of Lights (ultimately). The best gift ever given to mankind is the Living Word Which became flesh and died for us so that we might have everlasting life. When we wait on Him, our fears are cast away by His love, and we gain self-control. Thus our voice will have a wonderful influence on those who hear us, and our life will bear witness that we've been with Him. Blessings
It’s 1 am and I’m a teen with braces and a stuttering mumbling problem and cannot speak clearly, and I have a presentation tommorow. I still have hope.
I was raised bilingual and sometimes switch between languages for specific words (automatically). Now I am dating a guy from overseas and talk english (3rd language) on a daily basis and suddenly noticed a problem with my speech: My brain thinks too fast and conflicts with the 3 languages, so that I often times stop in the middle of the sentence, have to finish my thought and adjust to the language and then continue talking. This is bathering me a lot, because it seems like I would sometimes stutter. How can I solve this problem?
For months I have been admiring the voice of Blayne Alexander a journalist for NBC Nightly News. I think my voice is good once I settle my mind and focus on speaking. I just love the way Blayne's voice is always so crisp and clear. That is what I want for my voice a more crisp and clear sound like I am telling the news.
I feel like I don't have freinds because I can't speak very well. I will try to learn this and develop my sense of humour and talk deeper. It's 2023 I have decided it's my year to improve
@@shayorshayorshayor way to go for discouraging someone to better their self. internet anonymity really goes a long way to bring out the true personality of people.
@@razormaw coming from a person who has an anime picture as their display pic. Nothing abt me is anonymous. My picture and name and city. And if someone gets discouraged from a stranger, that person is really not cut out for it.
@@shayorshayorshayor ok, i will admit you've hit good points. I also admit that you've hit the nail in the head about me being anonymous also lol. But i will still disagree about your last point, wouldn't it just be better to be encouraging anyways, rather than discouraging? "If they get discouraged, they're not meant for it", then shouldn't they get encouragement so they can succeed?
Yep. Mine is way rusty. I’ve been isolated 98% of the last 3 years. Now I try talking to people and I struggle. Using a Minnesota accent helps for some reason. 😂 Thank you for the tips!

I tend to use a lot of filler words when I get nervous . I went to seek advise with a paralegal and recorded our conversation when I played it back I couldn’t believe the way I was communicating ! I kept saying “like” a lot, um , and “ you know “ ? I spoke like a 5 years old .. I was so embarrassed ! we all know the way you speak conveys a lot about you and your education . When I converse with friends and fam I don’t use filler words , words flow easily . I really want to improve my communication and ease the nerves. Idk why I get anxiety when speaking to strangers. Can anyone else relate? I’m going to scroll through all his videos and hopefully he has one on this topic.
omg scary !! I’m doing an LLB (law) degree and i’m terrible at speaking so i’m really worried about career prospects. I thought i would get over it when i started studying but i haven’t
An interesting thought is how this idea translates between languages. For example, if I'm a native Arabic speaker, would the practice improve my Arabic speech if I listen to an English speaker I admire? And thank you for explaining this and making it short & sweet!
I’m guessing it would, but it’s funny you say that because I came here looking to improve my Spanish (but I’m not fluent or native, only learning the accent) and I realized I’m pretty terrible with having control over my speech, in Spanish and English (native language). Do you think it worked for your languages?
I do stuff like he does in this video for Spanish. So I listen to someone with a Spanish accent which sounds good to me and try to imitate how they speak, this can help to improve accent and pronunciation.
I am a Freshman, and the ONE thing preventing me from acting confident is the struggle of not speaking clearly. Sometimes I stutter as I come up with what I'm going to say, and not only that. I have difficulties speaking fluently and having the right tone when speaking, and I want to change so I can become much of a confident, speaking person.
@@pradeeppatwa72 Do you know any person who speaks hindi really good...Or you find his voice & pronunciation amazing...? Plz tell me if you know, I am confused. 🙏🏻
@@shivanshkapoor my native language is hindi so I can speak really goodnight 😄, other than that there many hindi channel on you tube you can follow them, I don't remember any name as such😅.
Wow, what an amazing idea!!! It goes beyond saying that learning to sound the way a great narrators sound will / should create complete changes in life as well. Thank you ❤️
@@ImproveYourVoice Thank you for your reply ❤️ Well, I feel like it's the mood that good narrators / actors / speakers are able to transfer. (I enjoyed what you did in 100 voices video :)) Oh the other hand, if you only act but add no feeling, then it just loses the point? Have a great weekend Btw 🙌
Hi Derek. In my rambling I've just come back after some while to this clip of yours and can't help notice the motivation you are giving. During the time since I have watched it first I practised mimicking the sounds and intonations from different sources I liked at the moment. They were like audio-books, youtub-clips, podcasts. It was helpful. English is not my native tongue, and beside the aural practice it was also the practice of new words, bits idioms, slang expressions, probably even gestures. I was not stuck to a single accent or voice, because after a while they were becoming to seem boring . I was changed samples, and went further exploring some regional British accents, which was also a great fun. Maybe sometimes I deviated from the clearness, but I think it was beneficial in some point for understanding the tonality and the pitch of the language. And, of course, it worked like a feed-back: the better we can produce the speech the better we can understand it. Eventually I have cached a feeling that the British voices are produced more likely from more former part of the mouth, even some sounds are coming from the back of the throat. It's like the feeling that the frontier muscles and the front part of the tongue work more than in my native Russian. It's a sort of my tuning when I try to mimic, my "inpersonality". And my question at the end. What do you think about this Yorkshire boy ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GTSb8zZdFYY.html Isn't he wonderful? It's one of my likings now how he speaks. Does it feel like clear sounding to you?
My favourite speaker is Neil de grass Tyson, his voice is deep and his speak is really understandable...considering that my mother language is not english😁 and I love his content, I will practice with Neil🤠
Practice daily That's an important key as I tend to practice only once in a while but doing it daily will benefit me. The thoughts in my mind are clear but when I try to speak those thoughts. I loose the word and start mumbling and stuttering
Literally subbed. I was looking for something that will improve my voiceover skills and damn its a good advice. I think I knew it in my head, but I wanted someone else to confirm it that shadowing is the way. :)
It’s 12am and I just graduated high school and I still have no job because of social anxiety and dad is forcing me to go college 🥲. I really suck at talking and explaining to people and using big vocabulary words. sometimes I feel like I’m mentally weird and also lost so I always avoid eye contact and i freak out when someone sits next to me or walks pass me. I really want to go see a therapist but me & my dad broke asf. So I guess watching videos and writing notes down is probably the best option for me as a 18 year girl with bad social skills and no social life it’s sucks but I need to help myself get better so things can be easier for me in life. Thank you sir appreciate you sharing your videos with us ❤️
In order to speak clearly, you first need clarity in your mind. You can speak clearly having 100s of thoughts in your head. The more you calm, the more you get clarity of what u want to speak.
Great lesson - I'm going to find a good video or recording of someone who's voice I really like and practice it every day! Very easy to implement advice. This is the first video I landed on after searching "how to talk more deliberately" - I'd like to be more concise and direct in my everyday speech. One comment on the video itself - I feel that your "intro" is too long. I don't think you needed 2:20 (a third of the video) explaining the important of practicing daily. I considered clicking away if you didn't get to the point soon. That said, I'm glad I stuck around because the advice itself is solid. 👍🏽
I agree, I have been practicing talking in front of a camera for past few weeks, then been watching myself back, it's painful 😂, but got to keep practicing 🙏
I'm here because I want to improve my diction to be more clear so that when I give a speech, I want to sound more articulate despite using simple words. From that, I want to get confidence in my speaking and get comfort when I'm speaking English as a foreigner.
Well you know the struggle is that I'mma fkin introvert so whenever I'm talking to myself I'm very clear but whenever I go out and try to speak I get really confused what to say and things get awkward . And yea don't consider talking to myself weird cuz I don't have many people to talk with especially in English
Do what you gotta do! I'm not gonna judge you! Sounds like you care too much what others think about you and thats why you feel awkward in front of them. Could that be true?

Yes, I noticed that practicing the way you said, really helps. But I stopped a long time ago with practicing that way. Thanks for the reminder. I'll start again
Great video and tips! My problem is that I can speak clearly when I'm comfortable, but speaking to someone like my crush, I mumble and speak quickly. I know why I do this, besides being nervous, but yeah it's really frustrating!
I have a question about finding a person that voice i wanna train on, so if im from Slovenia and english is not my first language does looking for American actor for example has sense? Or it's better if I find someone who uses the same language as me
Will this help my voice not sound like I’m congested with a cold. I hate trying to go for job interview or speak to my classmates about a project and sound like I’m pinching my nose.?
Nah man it’s more of like “being lazy to talk” type of sound I’m talking normally I just don’t want to sound lazy basically Edit: I don’t think you can hold your breath while talking 😗
